Rating: Summary: THE DARKER SIDE OF LOVE!!!! Review: I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN AND I WILL NOT PART WITH MY COPY. IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE READ IN A LONG TIME. THE STORY OF CONN AND GELINA IS ENTHRALLING. READING SOME OF THE OTHER REVIEWS, I WAS SURPRISED TO SEE EVERYONE BLAMING CONN WHEN GELINA STARTED THE KILLING!!! BUT WHEN THESE TWO CHARACTERS CAME TOGETHER THE SPARKS WERE FLYING. I THINK THAT THEY HAD AN OBESSIVE LOVE BETWEEN THEM BUT THAT IS WHAT MADE THIS BOOK REALLY SHINE. SO MANY OTHER BOOKS HAVE THE SAME TYPE OF PLOT. THEY MEET, THEY HATE, THEY WED, THEY BED AND NOW THEY ARE HAPPY. IT IS VERY REFRESHING TO READ SOMETHING DIFFERENT. THERE WAS ALOT TO LOVE ABOUT THIS BOOK.
Rating: Summary: Favorite book!!!! Review: I Loved this book!!! It is my favorite Teresa Mediros book i found it very well writen and it made me cry and laugh. The relationship between Gelina and Conn was breathtakeing and this story shall remain in my mind forever! I re-read it every month! GREAT BOOK! I found this anything BUT a disapointment
Rating: Summary: Left me with a very uneasy feeling! Review: I did enjoy this book, I find it very hard not to enjoy a Teresa Medeiros book and the excitement created by the author in the novel is excellent. The reason that I am only giving it two stars for a rating - (which may be slightly harsh)is for two reasons, both connected to each other. One of these reasons is, like the reader from Wisconsin, I found the abusive nature of the relationship between Conn and Gelina very unsettling. I find it very hard to believe that after all the terrible things that Conn did to her, that Gelina would carry on loving him! The second reason for my rating is that the ending was to short and without giving too much away, Gelina was just too accepting of everything that had happened. I understand that some people find abuse a turn-on but I for one certainly find it unpleasant and not something that I like to see in a romance novel. I have never really come across it in a Medeiros novel before and I hope I do not agian as I do rate her as a top novelist.
Rating: Summary: Didn't like the end Review: Maybe I'm just being hard on this book because it just does not add up to other Medeiros books like Nobody's Darling. Even though it is ok it just was not superb. The ending was the part that bothered me the most. After all Conn put Gelina through in the novel he never really says he is sorry or at least admits that he was wrong. In historical romance novels I am not really picky about the way the heroes treat hte heroines because that was history. Women just were not treated the same way they are today where I live in the US. Still, I thought that after Conn's display of his abysmal lack of faith in Gelina, she should not have taken him back until he had told her that he knew he had been wrong about her. However do not let my review of this particular book stop you from reading other books by Ms. Medeiros. I believe this book was just the bad sheep of the flock. Many other books my Ms. Medeiros are quite enjoyable, especially Nobody's Darling which I highly recommend.
Rating: Summary: Lady of Conquest Review: After reading Once an Angel by Teresa Medeiros, I was excited to read Lady of Conquest. Her characters have a deep sense of realism in them that I truly admire. However, I was undeniably dissappointed in this book due to the abusive relationship she displays between her two main characters, Gelina and Conn. While on one hand showing Gelina to be a brave, strong, and self-sufficient woman, chapter after chapter follows the horrible relationship that Gelina is drawn into with Conn. Unfortunately I found I kept reading this book to the end simply hoping to find Gelina coming to her senses and run from Conn's horrendously abusive show of "love."
Rating: Summary: It blew me away! Review: I thought this was a fabulous book. Readers need to remember that it was first published in 1989. If you cut your teeth on the "candy romances" with no substance that are so prevalent today, you might be intimidated by the passion and power of this book. But I loved it! Real things were at stake with Conn and Gelina--their love, their loyalties, their futures, even their lives. I wish there were more books on the market right now with this kind of depth.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: After reading Charming the Prince, Nobody's Darling and Whisper of Roses, I found Lady of Conquest a complete disappointment and did not even bother to finish it. I would not recommend this book unless you have nothing else to read.
Rating: Summary: rose Review: what a disappointment! the story had so much potential. a wonderful idea that would have made a fantastic book save for the constant abuse on the reader. how many climaxes can be good for a book? store line: hero and heroin find each other, fall in love, go threw bad times, make up, hero abuses heroin, she takes it, they make up , he abuses, she takes it, they make up, abuses.. etc. repeat four more times, end of book. it's almost as if the author couldn't make up which ending would be good for the book so she put in all of them. it's tiring and by the middle of the book I got so disgusted, I wished it would just end. a waste of money and time. Sorry Nora Roberts I'll never stray from you again!
Rating: Summary: It was scary Review: Although I enjoyed reading "Lady of Conquest", I could not get over the fact that the heroine was a homocidal maniac. I found it hard to understand why the hero kept forgiving her, bringing her back with him, and then assuming that she betrayed him every fifty pages. The chemistry between Conn and Gelina was very real, but their actions seemed very contradictory to what they thought and felt about each other. Medeiros has written some wonderful novels since "Lady of Conquest". If you are looking for a romance novel that will make you smile, read "Nobody's Darling" or "Breath of Magic".
Rating: Summary: Very, very, very slow Review: I bought this book on the recommendation of Amazon and was so disappointed. After 150 pages I am still unable to "get into" the book. The plot is very predictable and is soooooo slow. I am going to donate this book to Amvets in hopes to at least get a tax deduction out of the money I spent on this borning book.
