Rating: Summary: I was surprised he could pull this off Review: The initial few chapters were so bizarre and wierd that I wasn't certain how this book could ever segue into a plot. I really expected it to just go on and on in it's peculiar manner, with strange plane crashes, innocent football players, people wanting to get falling down drunk and tawdry islands. Imagine my surprise when a plot emerged!I wouldn't call this a *great* novel or a great author- in fact, I often peered in puzzlement at the authors photograph in my copy (is all his writing so odd? Is he?)- but it is a compelling read. Once I started, I had to continue to find out just who these odd people were and what on earth the author was going to do with them. Oh yes, odd indeed. The crazy woman with the many personalities, the man who risked his life, career and um, well, potency on a dare from a prostitute, the "oar" in the boat, the "journalist" and that odd little bat. With the many odd characters, why was a surprised there was a dark tone to the plot?
Rating: Summary: Warped, witty and wonderful Review: This is the wildest, most outrageous, funniest, most completely original novel I've read in a long time. It's a tale of redemption, romance, intrigue, murder, evil conspiracies, suspense, thrills, chills, adventure, ghosts, gods...it goes on and on. Moore's imagination runs wild, and this tale will suck you in and keep you glued from the first page til the last...I even had to read the acknowledgements, I just didn't want this book to end. And if that's not enough, it's incredibly well written, with a plot that keeps you wondering what's coming next and how it all will work out. Let me tell you...it works out great...amazing in fact. I can't recommend this escape from reality highly enough...enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Island of the Sequined Love Nun Review: I love a book where I have no idea what's coming next, and this book surely fills the bill. Right from the beginning you're drawn into a bizarre series of events that unfold in a simple, brilliant style. Save the social relevence and meaning for another day, just have a fun read. This was the first book I've read by him, but not for long.
Rating: Summary: A real satiric winner Review: In Seattle, Meadow Malackovitch asks Tick Case to help her become a member of the Mile High Club. Being a bit drunk while having a bit of action in the air, Tucker "Tuck" Case crashes his company's pink plane, landing in the weekly tabloids. Wheeled away to the hospital with damage to his penis, his buddy figures that God takes care of fools and drunks, of which Tuck is both. However, he loses his divine luck as he faces the wrath of his employer, Mary Jean Dobbins for thinking with the wrong head and the loss of his aviator's license. Fleeing to the Pacific Ring, Tuck accepts a job with a missionary, Dr. Curtis flying medical supplies to an isolated Micronesia island. He makes new friends with a transvestite and a fruit bat, but unwittingly (the norm for Tuck), he is the runner in a lucrative organ transport business. Renowned for his amusing yet ascorbic satires, Christopher Moore returns to his fertile grounds to provide the audience with a wild ironic look at the action thriller. The story line is two parts of humor and two parts of action, which add to the irreverent glimpse at a world gone crazy, Mr. Moore simply eradicates everything sacred under the western sun. Though somewhat stereotyped in characterization and not quite as wild as expected from the king of weird, the plot entertains those readers who enjoy a tale to the extreme of the absurd. ...
Rating: Summary: Christopher moore is a genious! Review: I loved this book, it was hilarious. Tucker Case is one of the most charismatic charecters I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Drinking, Sex, and Finding out we actuelly taste like spam make this a great read...
Rating: Summary: His wackiest yet Review: Moore has done it again with another darkly satirical, rollicking romp through a remote region of the South Pacific islands. The story features cargo cults, an elderly cannibal, a cross-dressing Micronesian outrigger navigator, a talking fruit bat, a sociopathic surgical nurse/stripper with a genius IQ, mysterious Japanese ninja guards, a mispel (you'll find out) and a sinister plot that is uncovered by the loser anti-hero, Tucker Case (who does redeem himself eventually). Another winner by Moore and his wackiest novel yet.
Rating: Summary: Delightful Review: Humorous novels often disappoint me with their lack of charactor development and imagination. Island was just right--not too silly and not too sarcastic--simply a well-told story that made me laugh. Thanks Christopher. I'm ordering your earlier works.
Rating: Summary: Very Funny! Review: I've read all of his books and loved every one!
Rating: Summary: Awesome, fun read! Review: This is my first experience reading Christopher Moore and, let me tell you, this book is fabulously funny! The 1st few chapters completely reeled me into the book and I just couldn't stop reading until it was finished. I was kinda sorry to see it end. Sequined Love Nun is so colourfully written, so descriptive that I could see everything he wrote in my mind's eye. Everything from the Airport Lounge to the island natives, even to the wacky talking bat. Every character was fleshed out and I felt that I could have been there. It is such an hilarious story and really expertly written. You will have a ball reading this crazy book!
Rating: Summary: Island of the Sequined Love Nun Review: Delicious lunacy! An original, non-stop plot with unique, amusing characters. Lush description and attention to detail. I was hooked immediately. If you like Terry Pratchett, William Gibson, or Neal Stephenson, you'll enjoy this book.
