Rating: Summary: Could be better... Review: I've read all of the Belgariad, and I was somewhat disappointed with what I found... This is good fantasy, but the characters I think are generally underdeveloped...I did, however, like Silk. He was one of the few well developed non-flat characters. I must say, however...That if you are a true fantasy person...Tolkien is still god. =)
Rating: Summary: Even worse than Terry Brooks... Review: I guess Mr. Eddings feels that if he loads his kiddee books up with words like "belgariad" and "malloreon," they will be beloved, respected fantasy. Please Mr. Eddings, toss that typewriter out of the window...your childish musings are annoying at best, and a great blemish on the genre at worst.Cookie cutter plots, characters, and situations populate this book, and every other that follows it. Classic childrens fantasy (CS Lewis, Lloyd Alexander, etc.) was *never* this bad - indeed, those stories are beloved classics for a reason. The worst thing of all, people have bought into those, throwing their money at some of the most insulting, poorly written c r a p the genre has to offer.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Ecstatic! Review: This has got to be the best book of all time! Once I started...I never pu it down until an hour and a half later! By that time I had finished it! Within 20 minutes I ran back to the bookstore where I bought it and got the Second one. David Eddings has got to be the only Author that caught my attention as soon as I read the opening paragraph! WOW!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely incredible! Outstanding! Very original! Review: I was given this book by a friend that said I reminded her of one of the characters. So of course I now had to read it. From the first chapter I was hooked! I was going to be a junior in high school in the fall and I actually spent my ENTIRE summer inside READING! I LOVED IT! The only social life I had was with my new friends...Garion, Silk, Barak, Old Wolf and Polgara. I actually cried when I finished the fourth book because there was only one book left!! I thought about the characters constantly and still do to this day...7 years later! They have touched a place in my heart as none other have!
Rating: Summary: This book is excellent. Review: This book, is excellent. David Eddings knows his stuff. Just one warning folks, if you read this book, you will have to read the rest of the Belgariad, and the Mallorean, and Belgarath the Sorcerer. This is a great series, and I think that you will enjoy it emmensly.
Rating: Summary: Beating a dead horse Review: David Eddings has learned well... how to rehash the same story enough times in different ways to net himself a load of money. Throughout the Belgariad (which I did enjoy, light reading, never intense) I was struck by how well this story fits into the cookie cutter image of fantasy. THEN I got to read the same story again, and again, and again, with the Mallorean, Belgarath and Polgara. The horse is dead, David. Let it lie.
Rating: Summary: A great read! Review: I actually read both the Belgariad and the Malloreon as they were being published. They are great popcorn fantasy. Don't expect anything deep because the characters are defined almost entirely by static description and the manner of their speech with frequent sitcom-like quips and jokes. It definitely isn't literature and is often times predictable, but it's so much fun that you can't help but lose yourself in the joy of the ride. If you want something light-hearted and fun as well as completely fattening, easily digested and wholly non-nutritional, then pig out! It's a great series!
Rating: Summary: Awsome Eddings has outdone himself with this series Review: A wholy entertaining book. From the humble beginings to to confused end for Garrion as he starts on his quest towards a strange future. I can't wait for this to come out in audio book form.
Rating: Summary: David Eddings is one of the best story-tellers ever. Review: When I bought the book from a used book store it was quite some time before I read it. Finally, I picked it up and literally did not put it down until it was over and that includes this series and the following one The Mallorean. The characters became friends that I still miss from time to time.
Rating: Summary: If you love Fantasy, this is a MUST READ. Review: David Edding's Belgariad is an example of what fantasy books should be. The writing style is lively, the humor is entertaining, the plot is complete, and the characters are clearly defined. This is the best fantasy series I've come across. Pick up a copy. If you get through the first hundred pages, you won't be satisfied until you've read the entire series. A MUST READ, MUST OWN FANTASY SERIES.
