Summary: If you want to get in shape...
Review: I took ballet lessons a long time ago and was never very good at it, but it was something I always loved. I still remembered some steps and one day decided to try a few out. It felt so good to put my muscles through those motions. It got me thinking and I came across this book. It teaches you ways to move and stretch to give your body a beautiful, healthy shape. Some can be difficult at first, but it does work. It contains step-by-step pictures that make it easy to follow, as well as written directions. In addition to that, it encourages you to stick to the exercises and offers advice on how to really focus on what your body feels to give you a maximum effect. Overall, this is a wonderful, helpful, and even relaxing way to tone your body. For anyone who wants to get in shape, this book in definitely the one to have.

Summary: buy it, do it
Review: The exercises in this book are easy to follow, and result in stronger longer well proportioned muscles. Most of us use our major muscle groups only, while the exercises in this book are designed for the forgotten muscles. I don't think the first half of the book is necessary--I thought it was worthless. However, the workout itself I think is great, and I have given the book to a few friends. The bottom line is that I highly recommend the book for the excellent exercises.

Summary: Not fond of nancies in tights...
Review: ... but this book really changed my workouts. While there have been excellent books out there on cardio vascular fitness, sports nutrition, and bodybuilding, there's nothing quite like this (not even Jane Fonda's Yoga) that completes the overall picture with stretches. Not just ye old pull, tear and hold stretches... but odd contortionist moves that unlock your joins and ligaments beyond the major muscle groups normally isolated in stretching. Do the ones for the spine and you'll know what I mean.

From 15 min with this book in the store, energy is up (less sleep), coordination is up (precision exercises), and satisfaction is through the roof. I'm buying it.

Hope it does the same for you!

Summary: Super ballet book!
Review: This book is wonderful! I have only been using it for a week and I already notice a difference in my posture and the way I carry myself. It makes your muscles work!--(muscles that other exercises never target). I feel stronger already, without feeling bulky. I would recomment this book for anyone who wants to tone up loose muscles, obtain more strength and who may want to be more graceful in everyday activities.

Summary: Fitness is FUN!
Review: I agree with all the five star reviewers here--this is an addition to my workout that I am enthusiastically looking forward to! I was encouraged to purchase this book today after working out with an at home Pilates book for three weeks and seeing results. I want to add this workout to my regime because I am having so much fun getting in shape--without going to the gym! I read the book from cover to cover and was inspired by the beautiful dancers' lean bodies. The back cover describes the New York City Ballet Workout 'the most beautiful and easy-to-use exercise book ever created.' I'll never get bored or out of shape again! Thanks NYCB!

Summary: amazing workout
Review: I saw this book at the last minute after spending quite a while looking at workout books unable to decide on the right one, none seemed right to me.. I bought this one immediately, no second guessing needed. I did the workout for the first time today and for once felt energised, and relaxed and beautiful all at the same time. I want to lose around 20 pounds and was very hard on myself about it, but today I feel beautiful, and like my goal is attainable. I am extremely out of shape, though not very overweight. It took me 2 hours to complete the whole workout, which is quite a bit longer than it's supposed to, but I did it, and felt good about it. I will be purchasing the DVD the day it comes out!

Summary: Not too bad
Review: When I ordered the book I was enthusiastic. I had taken 7 years of ballet when I was younger, and now at the age of 24 thought about ballet again for the wonderful workout it can provide. I was disappointed in the exercises as they all take place laying down. The best part of the book was all the instructions on strengthening the abs. I noticed a difference there after just 1 week of the exercises. A great book for beginners, although somewhat lacking in explanations.

Summary: Great book!!
Review: I've tried everything seems like-- running, swimming everyday, lifting weights but didn't seem to be going anywhere. I tried this book hoping it can help and it did!

The exercises are at first quite challenging--I would feel so tired and sleep a lot!! They look so simple but they really work you! Now that I am used to them, I finish the workout fast. The results are noticeable. Everyone comments on how much weight I have lost. Maybe all the stuff I have been doing worked also but I know I only saw visible results after using this book for a couple of months.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good start for a novice
Review: I've never taken ballet before, so this book is an eye-opener. The exercises are easy to follow with explicit descriptions. I have decided to attend adults ballet class in October. Thanks to NYC Ballet workout for giving this novice a good head start and the confidence !!
