Summary: Highly Recomended
Review: Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry is about an African American family living in Mississippi during the 1930's. The family has to maintain their land by picking the cotton off the field. This is the way they made a living. The Great Depression was a hard period of time for the family, especially dealing with racial issues. I recomend this book to any age gruop.

Summary: I Loved Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry
Review: Roll of thunder hear my cry was an excellent book. It is about a girl named Cassie and her family, the Logan's living during the 1930's having to fight the troubles of racism. Cassie is a young black girl that does not understand the way things are in the real world and how black people are treated. But as Cassie starts to go places other than her house and felid she discovers on her own that racism what really means.
This historical fiction book includes many characters such as Cassie, Stacy, Mama, Big ma, Papa, Mr. Morrison and others. I loved all of the characters but out of all of them Papa was my favorite. He is truly amazing. He takes care of his family, makes sure they are always safe, and he keeps up with his own life and does a very good job. Even if he has an injury he manages to keep up with all of his jobs.
Mildred D. Taylor really captured the dramatic truth about racism and the harsh reality of growing up in the 1930's. Miss Taylor's writing is amazing. My favorite thing about it was the way she made her characters seem like they where real. I actually felt like i was in the book experiencing all of the things the characters where going through.
I thought this book was amazing. I loved every part of it. I would most defiantly recommend this book to all people who like to read.

Summary: Hear My Cry
Review: The book taught me a lot about the hardships that African Americans faced in the past. There is drama, adventure, and much more. The family in the book faces a lot of enigma. Mary and David are the father and mother with their four kids Stacey, Cassie, who tells the story, Christopher John and Little Man. Thier grandmother also lives with them. Racisim was a horrible thing in the past and they had a lot to go through just to survive. Mary lost her job because she wasn't teaching what the white books said. It was not fair what they went through. This book was wonderful to read and at points I didn't want to put it down.

Summary: Great American Classic
Review: For a book with true story telling & vivid characters- you won't be dissapointed. This book approaches racisim in an un-PC way, is not maudlin and preachy but subtle and smart. The main character, Cassie, is a spunky young girl who comes to learn what racism is, yet refuses to accept that she is inferior just because she's black. The dialogue is rich, and the characters can practically walk off the page. I wouln't even consider this kids literature, since it deals with serious issues, and the observations made by Cassie and the other folks is as deep as anyhthing that could be made by an adult. This book is much better than anything by Morrisson- esp. "The Bluest Eye"- where the main character is also a young black girl but is not as interesting nor as vivid as Cassie and her family. A must read- especially for the powerful ending-"to cry for what will not pass"- that's enough to move anyone to tears.

Summary: Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry: review
Review: This book really opened my eyes to the racism that African-Americans had to live with in the 1930's. The book takes us into the life of a young African-American girl and the torment she had to live with. This book will bring up emotions in everyone. An excellent book!

Summary: Mildred D. Taylor is a better writer than all of us
Review: The following structural problems will NOT be found in "Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry":

- Two-dimensional characters.
- A dull plot.
- An overdone story of a girl who is constantly told to act like the little lady she is.
- A book in which all people of one race are bad and all people of another race are angels.
- Simplicity.
- Poor writing.

Instead, the following is the ONLY problem a person could possibly come up with about this book:
- It's title won't immediately make little children want to read it.

And that is my only objection to the book. Kind of pitiful isn't it? I'm fairly good at ferreting out flaws in books that are widely acknowledged as superb. Newbery or not, I like changing people's perceptions of old classics. But "Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry" was too much for me. I'm not going to shoot myself in the foot and pretend it doesn't have a couple small problems here and there. But it is a marvelous book. One of a kind. In fact, I highly recommend you read Taylor's, "The Well", before reading this text. Taken together the two books span the epic history of a Southern black family struggling to maintain their land. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is all I have to say about that.

She lets it go but after a while she plans her revenge. Cassie and her brothers, mom, and dad work as a team to protect their family and others. The story is set in Mississippi in a small town. Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry is a good book to learn how it feels to fight for your rights.

Summary: Carried a Lifetime
Review: Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry and Let The Circle be Unbroken... I found these books so riveting as a child I bought and read them to my own children as an adult. No one has ever brought the cruel reality of human prejudice so clear as Mildred Taylor! No matter what color your skin these books will make you feel the pain of those who once really felt it.
