Rating: Summary: Just the stuff we have come to expect in Rinaldi Review: The war began in Will McLean's back yard and ended in his palor. This is the story of his step daughter and her life as a member of the gentry in the south. This novel chronicles her life from before the war until after. A thrilling and worth while read. I guarantee you'll love it.
Rating: Summary: A twist of fiction Review: This story is a twist of fiction with a lot of truth. Based on actual events, but with the emotions and dialouge just a guess, this book makes a great read for a single person who is interested in the civil war or a class who is studing it. It is a tale of pain and suffering, good times and bad times, and even love fitted in at just the right times. I recommed this book to anyone interested in learning history, but who likes the fiction side of things.
Rating: Summary: TOP 3 FAVS!!! Review: This book was amazing! It's about a girl named Oscie Mason. In the beginning, she is a little seven year old, living with her mother, stepfather, and 2 sisters. Oscie has a difficult time seeing her stepfather, Will McLean, as the head of the house, and is very tempermental toward him. Oscie falls in love with a soldier when she matures to age 14, presenting the problem that he is already married- aaah! When Will McLean moves his family a little farther North, the war starts on the front lawn of the house the Masons/McLeans have just left. Later on, Oscie meets Tom, the man of her dreams. She meets him just before he leaves for war, which is later settled and discussed by Generals Lee, and Grant in Oscie's parlor. Wouldn't it be way cool to have the war started, and practically ended on your property? When I was reading, I just thought, AWESOME! I loved this book! I won't give away anymore, so read it yourself to find out what else happens in this remarkable book! ENJOY!
Rating: Summary: Civil War Life Review: This book is a really wonderful book on the life of a girl during the Civil War. It not only talks about the Civil War but the thoughts of a girl growing up and the challenges she faces. This book talks about alot of the events during the war and the character's opinions. This book is really very interesting and i also suggest that you try reading more of Ann Rinaldi's books. They are truly inspirational!
Rating: Summary: Favorite Book of all time Review: The novel In My Father's House, is by far my favorite book of all time. Being a fan of the Civil War, Anne Rinaldi did a wonderful job taking me through the adventures of all her characters. Giving a vivid timeline through out her plot and providing details that helped me relate to each situtuation. When ever I read this book it's always hard for me to put it down. The book gives out so many facts on the war while twisting it in with a great story! This book has defintely made Anne Rinaldi my favorite author!
Rating: Summary: One War to Change Them All Review: This is an awesome book about the civil war, shown through the eyes of Oscie Mason, a young teen growing up at the civil war time. She lives with her Mom, stepdad, and sisters and by the end of the war they all learn what is important to them and to stand up for what they believe in. The war begins in their front yard, and the stepdad, Will McLean, moves the family far away hoping they will have nothing else to do with the war since it tears families apart but this wish is does not happen when the war ends in the parlor of their new house! Everyone was transformed after the war because no one could go through the war and not be changed. This was an awesome book, and I recomend it to everyone!
Rating: Summary: An enjoyable read! Review: In My Father's House was a very enjoyable read. Oscie Mason is a headstrong young girl growing up around the time of the American Civil War. She lives in Manassas, Virginia. Her father has died and her mother is remarrying. Her new stepfather, Will McLean, and Oscie are constantly at battle. With the tension growing between the South and the North, this novel brings in a historical aspect to an exciting and gripping story. The characters are developed well, so the reader is drawn into the plot. I felt like I could relate with the characters. There are also personal conflicts as the characters struggle with themselves, what is right, and romance. A slave named Mary Ann causes many problems in the household, and Oscie is determined to get rid of her any way possible. With the oncoming war, Will McLean wants to move his family away from danger. They move to a quiet town called Appottomax. I found this book very pleasing and hard to put down!
Rating: Summary: Compelling Novel Review: This is one of Ann Rinaldi's best works. In My Father's House is a informational, yet exciting, hisotrical fiction novel. This novel is about a girl called Oscie. Oscie and her family are living during the Civil War. Many things have impacted Oscie's life, her father's death, her stepdad, and a woman named Mary Ann. Oscie doesn't realize it, however she is growing up during the war, in love and life. Oscie additionally doesn't realize that she is becoming a wise woman during this time of war. Oscie is learning when to state her opinion and when to hold her fire. In My Father's House is a excellent well-written manuscript. I recomend this to all mature readers. Jerry
Rating: Summary: gone with the wind again! Review: This was a fairly entertaining book, but after reading gone with the wind, it was to predictable. Will Mclean is almost exactly like Rhett Butler, and Ocsie is like Scarlet O'Hara. Ocsie's love, Alex, is just like Ashley ,married with lost hope for the South, and all the other characters have something in common with Gone with the wind as well.
Rating: Summary: History, romance, war, family, death Review: This is the first Ann Rinaldi book I have read. I like reading books based during the Civil War, so this grabbed my attention. It turned out to be even better then expected! It has true history with some pieces filled in based on Rinaldi's imagination. Also--romance, war, family, death, wealth, poverty and more. I read this book in just a few days because it was so good.
