Summary: GREAT! :)
Review: Hey everybody! I really suggest this book to you! I just finished it and was totally moved. The emotions are illustrated so clearly- the frustrating eating-at-you anguish of knowing a secret that could ruin you if divulged yet kills you by not being told. I can't give away too much! A breif summary:
Susanna English is fourteen. She lives in Salem, Massachutetts in 1692. Suddenly, the witch trials begin (more commonly known as the Salem Witch Trials). ... Not only does this book capture emotions, it shows prejiduce at its worst. The trials, according to the book, was when someone who was out of the ordinary was brought before the court. Whether they were or were not a witch, they could confess to being one and spend a life in jail or could deny it and be hung. Only Susanna knows the lingering secret that lies stealthily behind the horrible massacre. The people of Salem are "Puritans"- and just to summarize their beliefs, to them Baptists are heathens. wow. In my opinion, after finishing the book and really thinking, it seemed that the Puritans in the story were much closer to ... Satan than God. They, in the witchery trials, were trying to clean their town of all people who were not perfect Puritans- in other words, people who damned themselves and believed that kissing your wife or husband in public was a sin, and never wearing bright colors. They couldn't show emotional affection. To prove it, the first woman who was hanged was hanged merely out of suspicion of witchcraft because she wore a red bodice. So, basically, this book yells loud and clear that the witch trails were just an easy way to clean their 'city of peace' of all who added a lil excitmenet to their lives.
... I know, from my description of the Salem Witch Trials, that the book sounds horrible. It isn't. The horror of it all yet the innocent souls behind it are captiviating and make the story. Susanna's complex feelings seems so real- i found myself looking up from my book and expecting to see a tear-stained, distraught girl in front of me, spilling out her feelings while people were being slaughtered only a few miles away. I PROMISE it is a good book- but i will warn you- the first, second, maybe third chapters are extrememely boring and confusing, but the story falls together very soon. Have faith!
Note: I have a very queasy stomach, and I feel sick at the mention of 'blood.' But don't worry- there isn't anything gruesome in here. No graphic descriptsions.
Well, i hope you enjoy this book, ... :)

Summary: Fantastic
Review: I absolutly loved this book! I read it on the plane to Ireland and couldn't put it down. Definatly Rinaldi's Best Work!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: An enthralling story
Review: I am 13 and I think Ann Rinaldi did a wonderful job expressing the issue of the Salem, Witch trials. Young Susanna English, the main character has her own view about the trials. She is confused when all this starts. She sees that a select number of girls are in a circle lead by 12 yearold Ann Putnam. They are accusing anyone they hate of being witches. She goes to see the Parris' slave Tituba who is told to do the dark arts in secret. Since her brother William is lost at sea she goes to get her fortune told by Tituba. To find out more about this book read it! Because I have so much to tell about this book. This is a great book for people who like historic fiction.

Summary: Educational, Easy Read, Excellent
Review: I am a 13 year old who read this book because I was very interested in the Salem Witch Trials. I am a very picky reader and I consider it one of the best books I have ever read. It had a lot of educational information about the trials but at the same time it was not at all boring. At no point in this book did I feel that it was dragging on. This book I could not put down and spent an entire day reading it. I encourage this book to all young adults. Ann Rinaldi is an excellent author and has a real talent for writing!

Summary: Ann Rinaldi at her best
Review: I consider "A Break with Charity" to be Ann Rinaldi at her best. She provides an insider's depiction of the Witch Trials using the perspective of a fourteen year old living in Salem, MA. The facts and characters are well-researched. Although the main character, Susanna English, is fictitious, she is a believable and sympathetic character. I heard alot about the witch trials as I grew up outside of Boston and was surprised to learn so much from Rinaldi's attentive detail. This book is intended for young adults and I, as a not so young adult, thoroughly enjoyed every word....it is a page turner that evokes many emotions.

Summary: Great!
Review: I definitely liked this book- I have not read an Ann Rinaldi book that I haven't liked... and I've read quite a few! Anyways, this book really told about the famous witch trials in Salem, and why these accused people got arrested and what they did to them. It really showed how some people were really innocent but accused of practicing witchcraft, and some were even killed because of it. I took away one star, however, because I felt that for the most part, the book concentrated on the main character (i see this in her books sometimes, but it isn't bad) and her problems instead of what the book is really about. But I would definitely recommend this book!

Summary: A Break with Charity
Review: I first read this book when I was in 6th grade and I immediately fell in love with historical fiction. Ann Rinaldi is one of the best historical fiction writers out there, especially for young adults. I haven't re-read this book since 6th grade, but I have been meaning to.

I don't want to give anything away about the plot of the story, but it is a wonderfully well written novel about the Salem Witch Trials and all the injustices done. A great story. *S*

Summary: Ok book
Review: I found this book to be enjoyable, but not the best book on the Salem Witch Trials I've read. I love to read and have read lots of books on the topic of the Salem Witch Trials and am quite knowledgable on this topic, but I found this book to be more fiction than truth so I would suggest this book for the purpose of an enjoyable read, but I would not suggest it to start learning about the Salem Witch Trials with. Other books that I enjoyed on this topic were The Diary of Sorcus Good: Child Witch of Salem by Rose Earnheart and The Crucible by Arthur Miller

Summary: A sure page turner
Review: I got this book after I went to Salem,Mass. and while reading this book all these people came back to me. I wish I read this book before then. Now to the book,I loved it!!!!! I think that it really got into the Salem Witch trials and showed how freaky it would have been to be living in Salem then. This was my first book by Ann Rinaldi now I have 11 books by her.Elizabeth
