Summary: Sparks does it again!
Review: This is an emotional tale about a couple's new-found happiness & the shocking secret that threatens to keep them apart.

Miles Ryan's life felt like it ended the day his wife was killed in a hit-&-run accident. While Miles struggles with the unanswered question of who murdered his wife, their son suffers with nightmares & is struggling in school. A parent-teacher conference is called & enter Sarah Andrews, Jonah's second grade teacher. Sarah is new to the town & trying to rebuild her own life after a disappointing first marriage.

As Sarah & Miles work together to help Jonah catch up, they fall in love. They discover that their newfound love starts to soothe the pain of their pasts & they begin to think of a future together. But something else binds them together beside their love.

A Bend in the Road is told from a unique viewpoint - that of the driver of the car that killed Missy. Writing in a journal the murderer lives with the guilt & nightmares. When the murderer is unveiled, can Miles' & Sarah's new love withstand the shocking secret?

Nicholas Sparks does it again! This is another example of why he is America's best-loved & bestselling author of stories of the heart. I highly recommend this heart-breaking mystery!

Summary: Spark has another good one!
Review: I have read ALL of Nicholas Sparks' novels and have enjoyed EVERY one of them. Sparks has a rare ability to create pictures in my mind. Reading his words is like watching a movie. Such a skill requires the author to be a master of words, have rare insights into the human experience, the ability to surrender one's soul to the reader, and to offer the reader the unexpected. Clearly, Sparks has all four of these critical qualities.

I didn't enjoy THE BEND IN THE ROAD as much as I have enjoyed his other work. I wonder why? The quality of his writing has not diminished. Reading THE BEND IN THE ROAD (as his other novels) is still like watching a movie. After a considerable amount of thought, I think I understand. Writers such as Sparks invest their heart and soul into their novels. Not only does the reader receive a profound and enlightening experience from the words in the book, but also I suspect that unconsciously the reader comes to know the author. Perhaps, the reader comes to know the author TOO well. Thus, Sparks cannot meet the fourth criteria listed above. Those who know his work -- know him. Knowing the author too well handicaps the element of surprise.

Nevertheless, THE BEND IN THE ROAD is a charming story that is thoughtfully written. In particular, people who have not read Sparks in the past will be captivated.

Summary: Romance Writers Take Note: Sparks Builds Better Mousetrap
Review: This is a romance novel pure and simple, despite its being located in the general fiction aisle of your local bookstore. It is not the author's first romance novel and I'm sure it won't be his last. The fact is that Sparks writes very original, very fresh romance novels that those authors who write in the romance genre itself would be wise to read and study at length. He's not a best selling author by fluke. What he does is take very human, very fallible characters and craft them about an incredible conflict. A small town's deputy sheriff is the hero and he is still trying to recover from the hit and run death of his wife two years ago. His son's teacher though comes to interest him and it seems like he may finally start to recover. She had a husband who dumped her because she could not have children and his parents found that unacceptable. However, at long last the identity of who killed the deputy's wife is about to surface and that may totally derail this fledgling romance. This is not a murder mystery, which would have been the easy way out with this story. It is an accidental hit and run with a "killer" in absolute agony over his deed. I liked this every bit as much as Sparks' "Rescue" and look forward to his next novel.

Summary: His Best Ever
Review: I absolutely love Nicholas Sparks. This book has to be his best ever. The suspense he included was a delightful touch to an already very interesting story. He has out done himself!!

Summary: POTENT MIXTURE OF ROMANCE AND SUSPENSE IN THESE READINGS
Review: Both stage and television actor L. J. Ganser and John Bedford Lloyd, Broadway luminary, give artful readings to the latest true love conquers all tale by Nicholas Sparks.

The idyllic life of deputy sheriff Miles Ryan came to an abrupt end when his adored wife, Missy, was killed in a hit-and-run accident. He is left alone in quiet New Bern, N.C. to raise their seven-year-old son, Jonah, and find the person who killed his wife.

Miles soldiers on for two years, still grieving and searching. Then he meets Jonah's second grade teacher, Sarah Andrews. She has fled to New Bern to escape the haunting memory of a shattering divorce, but is drawn to Miles who too has suffered a damaging loss.

Eventually the two grow close and fall in love. Yet their hard earned happiness is threatened by the identity of the person who caused Missy's death. If this secret is revealed it could drive them apart.

Chosen best author by Entertainment Weekly Nicholas Sparks is riding the crest of heart wrenching love stories (The Notebook, Message In A Bottle). A Bend In The Road reads like another notch in his bestselling belt.

Summary: Fluff...fluff....where's my notebook...
Review: I have to agree with a previous reviewer...this is a beach read. This is something you do just for fun on a lazy Saturday sitting under a beach umbrella with a big pitcher of lemonade and a floppy hat. It's sweet, it's touching, it's sincere. At times it can be too sweet and you think you are going to get a cavity but he pulls back in, in just the nick of time.

No, this isn't Shakespeare...but it's fun...
