Rating: Summary: "What's not to like" Review: I love stories like "The Beach House" by writer Patterson. Fun stories that quickly draws the reader into the mix of things from the very start. I do not recall a book by this writer that I have not enjoyed to the MAX!
Rating: Summary: Not Bad! Review: I was prepared to not like this book after reading all the negative reviews, but I'm glad I didn't let that deter me. This isn't Mr Patterson's best, but still I thought it was pretty good. The story was, IMO, an attention getter. Some of the characters were really shallow and not well developed, but I liked the concept of the story. The pace was good and I really liked the short chapters. Also, I always enjoy seeing so called untouchables get their comeuppance. I enjoyed this novel.
Rating: Summary: One Fish, Two fish, Red Fish, ......Beach House Review: Such an easy read. This 358 page book has 113 chapters, which leads me to believe that Patterson sold out if he is paid by page. It reads more like a 150 page novella. Lots of white space. I wouldn't buy, rather loan from the library is my suggestion. However, even in the short space, the characters are quickly developed and a pretty good read. It is a no-brainer. Entertaining enough, with some interesting, although completely absurd plots. I have been to the Hamptons - so your guess is as good as mine about the main characters. I don't see it. I was a little disappointed in Patterson's recent novel, The Beach House. Usually, his novels are rich in plot and character development. This was rudimentary and positioned at a 6th grade reading intellect. I hope Patterson takes his critiques to heart: you are no Dr. Suess. Know your readers and bring back a thicker plot please.
Rating: Summary: This was a best seller? Review: It did not take long (mercifully) to read this book. I cannot believe it made the best seller list except perhaps on the strength of James Patterson's name. Nothing about the plot is believeable..the characters, the "story" the ending...it is just totally unreal. This is amateur night, folks. There is not one person in this book you can like, let alone relate to. The more you find out about the so-called "victim" the less you care "who done it" except it is no secret. I can only be glad I did not have to pay a nickel to read it, as it was a borrowed book. So if you have to buy it...pass.
Rating: Summary: Are 2 authors better than 1? Review: I admit that I am an avid and often satisfied reader of James Patterson's books. Long before he became famous for his Alex Cross series I read and enjoyed Patterson's earliest titles such as The Midnight Club and Season of the Machete. In recent years, in addition to loving the Alex Cross books I have also enjoyed some of this author's stand alone books like Cradle Will Fall. Now that I've read The Beach House by James Patterson and Alex DeJonge (the co-author of the previous Patterson title, Miracle on the 17th Green), I do wonder why Patterson wrote this book, why it required two authors and what went wrong. The Beach House tells the story of the "accidental" drowning of a young part time waiter during a gala party in the Hamptons. While many of the residents are "summer people," this young man is a high school dropout and what we call a townie. To Peter's family it seems unlikely he would be at the beach at this hour let alone drown since he was a strong swimmer. And despite the police's initial investigation his law school brother Jack and father decide to do a little investigating on their own. They both feel that Peter was lured to the beach on some pretext but they can't figure out why. Their first attempts meet with icy glares and then threats as it becomes apparent that the ultra wealthy couple, the Campions had something to do with it. And it doesn't help matters that this couple's daughter is Jack's former girlfriend. What follows next is a roller coaster ride of a book, which includes drugs, pornography, large sums of manner in unknown bank accounts, a bit of romance and surprising facts about the lifestyles of some of the characters. Sounds like it would make a good book, right? But it didn't. The book becomes mired in same old, same old and while it only takes a few hours to read, Patterson does favor short paragraphs, it really has no pleasant after taste. And the writing is so simplistic that one wonders why Patterson wrote this book. One would think with his fame and fortune Patterson might slow down a bit and take more time to pen a well-written book. Either that or people are left to wonder why two authors aren't better than one.
Rating: Summary: Great book to get lost in... Review: I read this book in two days. Kept me very interested until the last page! Anyone who has had experience with the judicial system - and found it wasn't always fair - can relate to this story. Makes one feel that anything can be accomplished with careful planning and hard work.
Rating: Summary: Beach Bummer Review: What a ridiculous plot and the characters were beyond belief! Save your money!
Rating: Summary: Don't Visit this Beach House Review: Dilemma: What do you do when you learn your younger brother, who had the reputation of being a border-line punk, has drowned off the coast of a tony community - on private property of his employer, who happens to be one of the most wealthy in America? Solution: Why, you'd suspect foul play of course, and gather a few of your closest friends (who just happen to have access to incriminating evidence you're not supposed to know about)to expose the underbelly of the rich, powerful, and over-sexed, while bringing the corrupt police department and judicial system , which has served and protected this wealthy community for many years, to its knees, with your 'recently-graduated-law-school-knowledge'! That's what you'd do... Well, that's what you'd do if you were the main character in this paint-by-number mystery/thriller by James Patterson and Peter DeJonge. Short on thrills, the only mystery here is why it took two authors to write such drub. John Grisham could have written this drivel on his lunch hour. As a matter of fact, he already has.
Rating: Summary: The Beach House Review: This was an awesome book! I love to read and when I arrived at the bookstore this cover caught my eye. I never read a book from this author and once I started reading it I could not put it down. I read it every spare moment I had - oh the twists and turns this book had!
Rating: Summary: Classic Legal tale of David and Goliath..... Review: This is a classic tale of David and Goliath. In this novel the "little guy" is the brother of a young man found dead on the beach after a huge party at a millionaires beach house. Many signs point to murder as the cause of death, but strange things begin to happen, autopsies change, testimony changes, people disappear and the motives for murder appear unclear. What could a handsome young man have done to warrant such a brutal attack? Who is involved in making the whole case vanish and how deep does the conspiracy go? Who is actually responsible for this savage murder? How can a working class family fight against a politically connected, wealthy family and see justice properly served? This novel if full of twists and turns that will hold your attention through to the ending. The ending may seem obvious to some readers, but the manner in which it is reached will definitely surprise you.
