Rating: Summary: Warning--Do not start this book on a work or school night... Review: Although it's been dubbed Summer 2002's "beach read," this novel will be just as satisfying when read by the fireplace under a toasty blanket while the snow falls outside. The writing flows easily and the story draws you in. This is the first real "page-turner" that I've experienced in several months. I recommend it highly.
Rating: Summary: Page turner-but Review: I, being a fuss budget, was annoyed early on in the book when it was written that the seas were rough due to the remnants of a Hurricane already up to letter G on Memorial Day weekend in the Northeast. I don't think so!!! Very soon thereafter "Manderley" was mispelled. Someone is not doing their homework! I did read the book to the end with some degree of suspense but was basically disappointed by it's sloppiness.
Rating: Summary: Good Read Review: This was the first james patterson book I have read and I really enjoyed it. The book is fast paced and it is one that you will not want to put down. The only disapointment was that there was really no surprising ending. I was waiting for another shoe to drop and it never does.
Rating: Summary: a legal thriller of deceit and revenge Review: James Patterson's The Beach House is definitely not his best work ' & Readers who have read & re'read Kiss the Girls & Along Came a Spider will definitely be disappointed.Jack Mullen is a law student, dreaming about a wealthy career, when he is shocked by the news of his brother's death. Peter, it seems, has drowned in the sea. However, Jack doesn't believe it for a moment because his brother was always at home in the water, he suspects Peter was murdered. Jack's investigation brings him in conflict with the police as well as the "Hampton Mafia" ' a group of mega'rich & ruthless people who just want to keep the lid on Peter's death. Battling the odds, Mullen keeps investigating, & in a tense courtroom finish, the reason for Peter's death is revealed. I believe that this is Patterson's first foray into the legal thriller genre & the result is not encouraging. Patterson is more at home in the psychological thriller, & Readers, expecting suspense in every page, may be disappointed by this one. There is now an overdose of Patterson thrillers on sale ' each year sees at least two of his "latest bestseller" hit the market. I hope The Beach House will not adversely affect the quality of his output. The Beach House is a fast & easy read ' but it does fail in the area of suspense ' the hallmark of a James Patterson thriller. The courtroom action is just plain, & certain aspects of it seem ridiculous & implausible. Jack Mullen is an interesting protagonist, you've got to admire his tenacity, but he is no Alex Cross ' the most famous of Patterson protagonists. The Beach House is an average thriller. Readers who are reading Patterson works for the first time may find it interesting, but not the ardent Patterson fan.
Rating: Summary: New to this author! Review: This is only the third book I have read by this author and am getting absolutely hooked. It was well written with surprises around every corner. Definitely NOT one of those predictable storylines:) I recommend it highly.
Rating: Summary: Great book to read!!! Review: James Patterson has done it again with his newest book, The Beach House. The drama and suspension caught me over and over. The style Patterson uses is great! If you are looking for a great book to read, this is it. I cannot wait until his next book comes out!
Rating: Summary: No Day at The Beach Review: Accustomed as I am to quality work from this author, I was highly disappointed by the effort. A half-hearted work that is utterly predictable and lacking in much tension or suspense. I suggest that you don't waste your time at this beach house. (he can do much better).
Rating: Summary: take it to the beach Review: In Patterson's latest book he once again comes forth with another page turner. Taking a turn away from his usual psychological thrillers, Patterson delves into a world of money, greed, seduction and lies. In the beginning, Patterson pulls you head first into the story of a young law student desperate to find out the truth behind his troubled brother's death at the Hamptons. Unlike his other books where he keeps you hanging onto his every word, Patterson lossens his hold throughout the middle of the story. Of course in the end he comes back with a conclusion that has a suprising little twist. "Beach House" is a good summer beach read, but I'll take a roller coaster Dr Alex Cross novel any day.
Rating: Summary: What happened, James? Review: Being a fan of James Patterson, I've read every book that has his name on it. Although this had short chapters and I recognized his writing style as easy reading, this definitely did not have the "keep you glued to the pages" story line that his books usually have. I have to say, I was disappointed in this one.
Rating: Summary: Almost as exciting as watching grass grow Review: What a disappointment! I saved this book for vacation, wished I'd left it at home or better yet, on Amazon's shelves. It was a sixth grade read, with a contrived plot, lackluster characters starring an egomaniac.
