Rating: Summary: Quick Read! Review: Although slightly far-fetched, this book grabbed my attention and kept it. The large print and short chapters made it a very quick read.
Rating: Summary: A Book of 2 Acts Review: I found this book to be fairly interesting however I didn't agree with some of the actions of the characters. It is really a book of two acts. There is a lot of mystery and intrigue and then there is an event that finishes the book. Patterson, with this book more than any other seems to be taking on John Grisham. J.P. has an unusual way of handeling the situation, but it is a good story in the typical Patterson fashion. I finished it in about 3 hours, so it's not a particuarly long book, perfect for a plane-ride. Enjoy -Tim
Rating: Summary: An Okay book Review: This book was really good except that it got really boring in some parts, like it left you hanging, but it wouldn't go into more detail. It had really incredible descriptions.
Rating: Summary: Beach House Review: I just preordered Patterson new book, so I have not totally given up on him. What a waste of my time and money "Beach House" was. I thought I was the only one that did not like it, until I read the reviews on this page. I'm so glad it wasn't just me who thought this book was awful. Do authors get lazy, or just need a room addition?
Rating: Summary: Another Hollywood ending Review: Here we go again folks, a wet behind the ears, can do no wrong do gooder and his perfect in every way girlfriend set out to uncover the mystery of why the do gooder's brother drowned in the sea while working as a parking attendent for a rich family. yes it was entertainning but I can't help the fact that the authors here are trying to send a message in regards to partying and having fun not to mention sex. If I had the kind of money the big bad rich character did in this book I would too party down to my heart's content. Using sex as a root to evil just does not sit well with me. I had to try very hard to simply concentrate on the suspense and not notice the moral subtext to this forgettable book. patterson is one of my favorite authors but this one failed the mark. The grandfather was annoying, I wish Jack would have drowned as well and can I really feel any sympathy for peter? He played with fire far too often and of course in the end he got burnt. Bottom line it had suspense but lets leave the judgement calls out of popular fiction. In my opinion the good guys in this book were just as corrupt as the bad guys, even more so in some ways. The audio prduction was excellent and the reader did a fine job but the short chapters don't really work well with this format. The constant stopping to announce the next chapter kills the flow of the book in a way. This book contains nine CDs and is narrated by a single reader. The story is written in the first person.
Rating: Summary: UGH! Review: I liked this book because i crammed it in the night before i was due to have read it, no my english teacher did not assign it, she let us pick out books. when she had us tell whether or not we liked the book or not, i said i wouldn't recommend it and she said "no, not to anybody who has a brain"- this book sounds like it was written by an 8th grader, i could write a book better than this one. Patterson uses very little descriptive details.
Rating: Summary: All Wet Review: This novel starts out promising with likeable characters and an intriguing plot. But the first clue that the authors (yes, plural, why does it take two people to churn out this stuff?) are taking a day at the beach instead of working hard at quality writing comes with a hurricane three months out of hurricane season. The story then degenerates into the improbable and from there to the implausible and finally to the incredulous. Nothing in the second half of this book could possibly ever happen in real life. If you like stories that resemble some aspect of realism, take your towel to another beach.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic read, gripping storyline Review: Having read other novels by the same author I was excited to begin reading this one and I wasn't disappointed. Patterson takes a new approach with this story by heading towards law and greed. Once again the characters pull you into the plot and you never know what is around the next corner. From the moment I picked this book up I found it difficult to put it down and would most definately recommend it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: An exciting and quick read. Review: An about-to-graduate law student,Jack Mullen, learns that his younger brother Peter has suicided by drowning and knows this to be an impossibility.Peter had been working as a car park valet at the party given by a multi-millionaire,father of Jacks girlfriend. When Jack and his friends start to question the findings of the coroner and the police, nasty things start to happen with some people disappearing and key witnesses being intimidated or bought off. Jack, his grandfather and their friends hatch up an almost unbelievable plot to bring the baddies to justice--a plot which succeeds because of its sheer audacity. This is a quick read--very pacy and exciting!
Rating: Summary: Good no-brainer summer read Review: I have always wanted to read a book by James Patterson. This started out with interesting characters who ended up leaving the book too soon. The middle got a little Jerry Springerish and unbelievable but it was worth it to finish the book ( I have a personal policy about finishing a book I start). There were times when I wanted to put it down and I did. I started this with much anticipation and was surpirsed at the simplicity of the prose for such a well liked author. I am still not sure if I will read any more of his books.
