Rating: Summary: Disappointing on every level Review: I haven't had this much trouble reading a book in years. I was actually looking forward to reading Hillary's explanations for the most scandal-ridden administration in US history. But on top of the fact that the writing (and especially the editing) was distracting the arguments made would only convince someone who had been in a coma for the last ten years. Since there is no supporting evidence offered for any of Hillary's assertions, the reader is forced to take her at her word--and that's asking a lot after eight years of spin and deceit. And yet I perservered. I quickly relegated it to the little-room-under-the-stairs to be used for bathroom reading material. Any other time spent with it just seemed like a waste. At least I could get two "daily chores" over at once. I bought my copy at a garage sale and it appeared that it hadn't been read. Now I know why. If you just can't contain your curiosity and feel that you must read this book, try to borrow one. I paid four bucks and it would have been waste of money had I not gotten $6 from Half-Price Books.
Rating: Summary: wise woman who chose the right husband Review: Gee she is a saint if you believe everything she wrote (if she did). I don't have any personal feelings against her. As a woman I consider her a very successful case. After all not many women or men for that matter could achieve what she's done today. No matter you admit or not. No matter you like her or hate her. But I simply have trouble believing that Republicans are all against her and Clinton Adminitration regardless the interest of the nation. Her writing style isn't very appealing. And it appears so clearly that she focused on the White House years (which was the highlight of her life after all) and she seemed very self-obsorbed as if it was her running the President Office. Therefore I developed the feeling that she was paving the way to a presidential election some time soon. it would be a legend if she entered one. But who could predict? Americans love legends.
Rating: Summary: I admit, I didn't finish . . . but I don't think I need to Review: I have no idea why I started to read this. Why would I care what someone thinks if they don't have the courage to leave someone who repeatedly (and publicly) degraded her? Either she has no spine, or she's decided to be a doormat to further her own career. It doesn't really matter which. She doesn't have my respect. Literary comment - get to the point. Don't use 10 words when 1 will do.
Rating: Summary: Not that it really matters but... Review: ... Hillary gives it a shot. In her book she gives us the Clinton perspective (both hers and that of her husband) on both of the turbulent '92 and '96 presidencies, and the events leading up to them. Surprise! Whitewater was a non-event. Surprise! Filegate was a non-event. Surprise! Travelgate was a non-event. Surprise! Ken Starr betrayed his country by reducing the Independent Counsel statuette to a cartoon of blathering right-wing rhetoric. Surprise! The impeachment of Bill Clinton was a mind-numbing exercise in partisan politics. Surprise! The Clintons are actually an intelligent and passionate couple, who have devoted their lives to service and who never wanted to do anything more than make America a better place. Of course, none of these are surprises. By this point the public knows all of this already. But buy the book anyway -- with all of it's documentation of psedoscandel and right-wing transgression, it will still remind you of a better time in American life. Call it escapist biography for those seeking sanctuary from a truly desperate and dangerous president.
Rating: Summary: Honest & Informative Review: Hurrah for Hillary! This is a book about a brave and intelligent woman doing what comes naturally to her... defending the rights of women and children all over the world while fighting off some of the cruelest and unwarranted attacks in Washington. I urge every woman to read this book. Anyone who is a mother, daughter or wife will find something of value here. If I could rename this book, I would call it "Superwoman". This is Hillary's story... it's who she I enjoyed every moment of it.
Rating: Summary: Know Hillary Review: A lot was said and written about Hillary in the 90's. Now, you can understand how she became the incredible woman she is. From Yale Law School to working on Nixon's impeachment, it is no wonder she is one of the best Senators today.
Rating: Summary: Hillary is a precious Gem Review: I read "Living History" and enjoyed it immensely. I've always admired Hillary Clinton, and after reading this book I admire her even more. The book is very well written and quite personal. I read a few of the bad reviews here by people who obviously hate her. It always tickles me that people who hate her spend so much time giving her attention. If you don't like Hillary then why did you spend time reading her book? Anyway, Hillary is an extraordinary women, and unfortunately smart, strong, extraordinary women are still despised by many in this society, including other women. I'm glad that Hillary is a NY Senator and when she decides to run for President she has my vote.
Rating: Summary: Self-serving and boring Review: I feel the same disgust for the woman that most people seem to feel, but I bought the book hoping to better understand what was in the Clintons' heads as they went from debacle to debacle in the White House. After reading the book - or most of it (boring) - I'm left feeling suckered yet again. It's pretty shrewd of Hillary to get people to pay money for what is, in essence, history's longest campaign speech.
Rating: Summary: Living History Review: A must read for all American women. I learned so much about women in other areas and the politics in our own country. Brilliant, informative and sensative. An interesting lady and I hope she writes more.
Rating: Summary: Ripe and Ready Review: Wonderfully written account of her political life to date, it sounds honest and genuine unless one reading is a Republican! Throughout the book Hillary has proven to be a person who has developed as a politician overtime, and along the way has learnt from her experiences, recognized her mistakes and works hard to overcome her shortfalls. Hillary is "Ripe and Ready" to be the NEXT AMERICAN PRESIDENT, which poses a huge problem, being a woman with of such high calibre in a very male dominated and conservative American society. Good Luck Hillary, and God bless.
