Summary: I like her.
Review: I like her. I liked the book. Senator Clinton comes from a generation of women that were left without independent role models when our country began questioning the human rights of other than white males in the 1960s. In the women's institutions of the '60s across the US we were trained to be supportive wives and found that we could be individuals with power of our own. We got our educations, we tested the waters and we began to fight for equality. Senator Clinton continues to challenge the conservative stench in law and politics worldwide while millions of other women fight for equality in legal rights, opportunity, health care and simple respect in the face of bigotry. While Senator Clinton was in law school I was one of the first women nationwide to work as a police officer assigned to patrol. As the Conservative right rules again in Washington with it's prayer meetings and assault on women's rights here and abroad, it would be wise to review the road we've taken so we don't end up where women and other minorities began in the 1960s. "Living History" is testimony to our generation's activism. I hope it will be read by younger generations than Senator Clinton's and mine lest we fail to see the continuing erosion of human and constitutional rights both here and abroad by a patriarchial administration that was simply not elected by popular vote.

Summary: Hard to Judge on its Merits Alone--
Review: I must admit I had more pleasure reading the reviews here than reading the book! I wonder whether the Hillary-haters actually bought the book or simply received their opinions from the vituperative conserative media hosts.

It is nearly impossible for Americans to remain neutral in their assessment of Mrs. Clinton. Consequently, when any of us approach writing either by her or about her, we tend to bring our own preconceptions with us. Of course, this is nothing new. Conservatives railed about Mrs. Roosevelt to a degree that has still not been matched in more modern times. The accusations that she and her husband were driving us into world socialism are well documented.

I found this book rather a boring read. Mrs. Clinton is a very intelligent woman, but that doesn't make a book worth reading. Yes, I consider it somewhat self-serving. Why would anyone write a memoir that wasn't? Mrs. Clinton delves somewhat into the whole sordid Lewinsky affair, but almost as if she were a member of the press corps, not the President's wife. For this reader the account only reinforces that this was a rather distant marriage to begin with. The political twist is nothing more than I would expect from any political partisan on either side of the aisle.

I still consider the gold standard in recollections of First Ladies to be Mrs. Johnson's "White House Diaries". No other First Lady has accomplished this, and Mrs. Clinton hasn't either. This book will probably only reinforce whatever political baggage each reader brings along. As an entertaining read I have seen many better.

Summary: intersting stories
Review: I was drawn to the book because Hillary strongly resembles my mother, Augusta. Although I prefer my history to remain "Dead," this was a good read and very imaginative.

Summary: Feel sorry for America:
Review: If this women, whose only purpose in life is power, could sell this book (written, of course, by other people) full of lies to many people, I feel really sorry for our country. It was founded with respect to reason and individual rights, look were we are now... Her political platform is collectivism (socialist kind), she is against American right to defend itself (without consulting with other countries), she is agains business, achievement, she is against individual rights, she is racist - she believes, one's views are determined by a race.
People - open your reason - what are you buying ?!

Summary: Makes a good fire!
Review: If you feel that this book is a must buy then read it. After you finish the first 2 pages ( if you can get that far) you'll come to your senses and you'll save the garbage men the extra weight in the garbage bag and just throw it in the fire.

Summary: Good read ... new opinion
Review: I thought I knew all there was to know about the public Sen Clinton as well as more than I needed to know about her private life while in the White House. This book showed me a more human and real side to a woman who was seen by a lot of people as hard, calculating, and manipulative. This book brought her side of a very trying time in her life. After reading this I felt I knew a very different side of her. She loves her husband very much, that the marriage is not just a business. I enjoyed reading about her childhood and how she fell in love with Bill and his hands and how much she still loves him/them. This had to be a hard book to write. I also enjoyed reading about how, during the whole "monica" incident, that many unexpected people showed her they were there for her in different ways and offered her a chance to escape for even a brief moment from the public eye and be able to work out her personal heartache and struggles. I also have to admire her even more for standing up and showing she believes in her marriage vows and stood by her man publicly, no matter how she was feeling privately. This was an interesting read and brought out a different opinion for myself of Sen. Clinton. If you want to hear from her about her life and her feelings, as much as she was willing to write about those trying times, then this is the book to read. No tabloid headline stories and no spin. Just Hillary telling her side of her life and how she gets through it and all the public scrutiny that she lives with.

Summary: Hillary's Journal
Review: Hillary Clinton writes candidly about her eight years as first lady. She survived the inevitable media criticism with dignity and does not use this memoir to "get even".

Americans cannot dismiss her efforts to inform us about world problems, especially women and children's issues. She writes about her many travels throughout the world, her friends she made in high places, her ability to listen, and her personal trials.

The first part of the book is interesting as the author relates her early years, college experiences, and her move to Arkansas. Keep in mind, Hillary Rodham Clinton was just a plain ordinary girl growing up in the midwest who made choices which led her on a path straight to the white house and a place in history as first lady. She devised a plan and worked it.

The book deserves a 5 star rating since it thoroughly describes the eight years of the Clinton presidency from her point of view, and will be valuable for the next generation as they study and judge it. The second part of the book is too long in my opinion for us who lived through these eight years of history and had to endure the endless investigations and partisan politics. Mrs. Clinton describes her feelings well and one wonders why there were so many roadblocks in her life at the white house.

Hillary Clinton attempts to humanize herself in this book. She wanted to make a difference and to do it "her way". She wanted to be outstanding and set a precedent for other first ladies to follow. (this may not be a wise thing) She traveled extensively, mostly without her husband it seems. One wonders if she had stayed at home more and limited herself to what she could actually accomplish, perhaps she could have avoided the harsh criticism she received in the media. Perhaps her husband wouldn't have gotten "caught". She gives us a glimpse into her private life with her complex husband but she is not quite believable in this area.

Mrs. Clinton wisely wrote her memoir as first lady quickly, so we would "get the facts straight". She adequately covered those facts. She is a woman of determination and self confidence. Some reviews indicate she is"inspiring". I was not inspired by her nor do I stand in awe of her except for the fact she could endure trauma and put on a brave public face. I have memoirs by several first ladies. Hillary Clinton is only one of many outstanding women. She is controversial because she appears to lack warmth of spirit. I felt closer to the real Hillary when reading her excellent book "It Takes A Village".

My review and personal opinion of this book is from the standpoint of a female senior citizen who votes independently. I do not find this author to be "formidable". I enjoyed reading of her visits to other countries and her impressions. I believe she is mostly honest as she writes and edits her book. I admire her for attending the women's conference in China. I am pleased she has such a good relationship with Chelsea. I wondered tho, why she feels she has to constantly remind us of her "great" husband and his attempt to "change" America. Some other first ladies have excessively praised their husbands in their memoirs and I felt it unnecessary. I want to know about what life is like for a president's wife and how she can best be a role model for other women. Eleanor Roosevelt used her position to educate women and was genuinely interested in America. Mrs. Clinton takes a worldview of women's roles and this is also good.

We can expect another memoir of Hillary's senate experiences which hopefully will not include her husband's input.

Hillary Clinton includes insights concerning her Christian faith. She tells us of her experiences in Methodist youth groups when she was young and that her faith sustains her. I would like to add to this review a Bible verse found in 1 Peter 4:10 "Each one should use whatever gift he (she) has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms." Go Hillary.

Summary: Living History - Living Inspiration
Review: I found Living History an excellent read which I had difficulty putting down. It is an insightful read from a number of perspectives. Firstly it is an inspiration for women who are trying to succeed in a difficult male orientated world. Admittedly Hillary Clinton was born to a fair amount of privilege but this doesn't prevent her from having to deal with gender discrimination in all its forms. How she steers herself through this kind of discrimination bears important lessons for women across the world. She provides a shining example of how it is possible to succeed with grace and dignity. Apart from this aspect her insights into American political history and the Clinton era in America are fascinating. She deals with the good and the bad and her discourse on the Lewinsky issue is disarmingly honest. She gives the whole Lewinsky issue a perspective which reflects her sense of outrage but gives it a balance, which only her profound intellect and sense of dignity supports - that is, in her view Bill Clinton is so much more than Monica Lewinsky and she gets her priorities right despite the pain this must have caused her. I found the context of the Clinton political framework interesting - the Republic majority in the senate and the sheer force of opposition on all levels, visa a vis Kenneth Starr - clearly made it very difficult for the Clinton administration to achieve their campaign promises. I was struck with admiration for her commitment to her role as mother to Chelsea and her broader commitment and passion to entrench the rights of women and to use her position as first lady to the utmost to speak for the rights of women and children across the globe. She not only spoke and wrote about the issues she was passionate about, she had influence and she made a difference. I am now reading the Madeleine Albright story and this will broaden my understanding further, since these two women were good friends. Albright is clearly has great admiration for Hillary Clinton and provides support for her special qualities, significant intellect and her contribution to society as a whole, not just the political system. I came away from this read inspired and energised. Hillary Clinton provides a strong role model to all women who wish to succeed and make a difference, in this book.

Summary: Natural sleeping pill alternative
Review: Hillary Clinton is an amazing woman yet this book is boring and offers no more insight into her life than the average reader has already gleamed from mass media during the Clinton years. I'd read a few pages every night then fall fast asleep.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: self-serving
Review: Ignore the fact that she is the former first lady. Ignore the fact that a bunch of stupid NY'ers voted for this carpet bagger and she now attempts to represent her constituency by inventing non-issues to fight for (someone's failure to tell NY'ers that black, foul-smelling air from the burning twin towers was unhealthy - this is raw common sense, see I told you they were stupid).

This book is just a self-serving revisionist view of history and how it never happened by one power hungry feminist. Go away Hillary.
