Rating: Summary: The BEST Review: As an acknowledged avid reader, this is positively one of the BEST, if not the absoloute best, books I have EVER read. I am hard pressed to name another book as enthralling as this piece of work. Anyone who enjoys an in-depth, impossible to put down book will fall in love with I Know This Much Is True. Although I was not a big fan of She's Come Undone, I think Wally Lamb has OUTdone himself with this work. The only question is: When is the next book coming out? READ THIS BOOK and experience the enjoyment for yourself! I wish that I hadn't read it so I could read it again for the first time!
Rating: Summary: I Know This Much Is True Review: Wonderful! This book gives you a very realistic portrayal of the dynamics between twins or multiples. Thoroughly enjoyable and insightful, this leaves you, also, with many things to ponder once you're done reading.
Rating: Summary: the best book in the world Review: This book is one of the best books i have ever read. It was simple but it keept you hooked in the plot throught the 900 pages. I love it and i am sure i will read it a 1,000 during my life. Is one of the best books i have ever read.
Rating: Summary: Enthralling 900 page novel except for the last 13 pages Review: I found "I know this much is true" to be impossible to put down. Being a student, I didnt think I wanted to tackle a 900 pager over the holidays (I received the book as a gift) but I soon found myself devouring the book in just over a week. Lamb is a great storyteller, and his character development is wonderful. Just one gripe: the book comes to such a natural close at the penultimate chapter. For some reason he throws in one last chapter that ties up all possible loose ends in a happy ending. The whole book deals with a man's struggle for purpose, happiness, identity, etc, and then we are to believe everything is just rosy? Oh well, I'll dock him one star and forgive him.
Rating: Summary: I Know this much is truly awful Review: Absolutely terrible. Poorly written, incredibly contrived to the point of being comical. I only continued reading for the perverse pleasure of discovering what absurdity would next be folded into the plot. 897 pages of reading drudgery -- the reading equivalent of doing 897 push-ups.
Rating: Summary: 300 Pages to Long Review: I enjoyed Wally Lamb's "She's Come Undone"--even though I felt by the end of the book it had gone on about 50 pages too long. Now, with "I Know This Much is True," the author really goes on too long. You spend hundreds of pages with the main angst ridden character, who just churns through his same problems and thoughts over and over and over, with no progress in sight. The character becames stagnant and all I wanted to do was shout out, "Get over it!" By the time I reached page 500, all I kept thinking was, "this book needs to be edited down badly." I couldn't even finish the last 200+ pages. Instead, I skipped to the end just to see what, if anything, is finally resolved. Several of my friends and family read the book and felt the same way. In fact, my mother said she lost interest half way through, put it down, and has yet to pick it back up.
Rating: Summary: progress Review: After having been disappointed by the content of She's Come Undone while at the same time intrigued by Wally Lamb's writing style, I was both hesitant and anxious to read this novel. As a writer myself, the author's style weighs heavily on my opinion of a book. I found that the story in this text redeemed tbe miserable shortcomings of She's Come Undone and also cultivated my admiration of Lamb's ability. I was disappointed ONLY on account of the Brady Bunch conclusion.
Rating: Summary: I know this much is true Review: Very heartwarming story of a man's attempt to find his place in this world. It was a story of love, freindship and sorrow.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable! Review: It is possibly the most enthralling book I've come across since reading Lamb's other novel, "She's Come Undone." It is an experience I won't soon forget. The story is amazing and the parallels and symbolism contained in the plot deserve more attention. Concettia harbors many secrets and shame as she covers her harelip with her fist.I believe readers will be able to relate to Dominick in the inherntly human actions and thoughts he has- the insecurity that comes with responsibility; the fear encountered in the aftermath of a tough decision. Reading this novel was an experience I didn't want to end- even after 900 pages. I'd recommend it to anyone. You will be facinated by revelations of the past directing this character to acceptance of his future.
Rating: Summary: Great book, but what's the deal with Prosperine? Review: If you didn't read the book, don't read this review! I loved the book and read it in a week. But, I had trouble with the part when Dominick discovered Prosperine in the nursing home. What was the deal with the rabbits in the hospital room? Who was to be forgiven? If anyone else had that problem, please let me know!
