Rating: Summary: fantastic Review: I just loved this book and I cried when it ended. It is well-written. The characters are so believable. I encourage everyone to read this book!
Rating: Summary: Thinking person's book Review: This book is for the thinking and feeling reader. Its universal issues and lovingly created characters and story will enthrall, enlighten and encourage. A truly great work of art.
Rating: Summary: i loved this book Review: this book came to me when i needed some escape. i felt lamb did a great job with the struggles that life challenges you with. the truth to me was that, it's all how you look at it. a great book for personal insight. forgive. how wonderful.
Rating: Summary: Congratuations To Us! Review: One can only surmise that the bewildering proliferation of five stars here relates mostly to the Self Congratulations effect, whereby the readers-- many having just finished their first "big book"-- are, in effect, slapping themselves on the back for trudging through this monstrosity in dire need of a lucid editor. Reminds me of that weird psycho-syndrome in which kidnapping victims fall in love with their kidnappers.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book!!! Review: It will make you laugh and it will make you cry. Lamb out did himself on this book! The story kept you wanting more and more! I would definately like to see this one on film!
Rating: Summary: Best book I have read in awhile Review: I just finished this book and and could not wait to reccomend it to someone else. It did start out a little slow in the beginning but, it really picks up in the middle. I got to the point that I could not put it down. I actually felt that I knew these people by the end. I hope that others take the time to read this book.
Rating: Summary: The male version of She's Come Undone Review: I have to admit, I'm a huge fan of Wally Lamb. In fact, I think "She's Come Undone" is one of the best novels I've ever read, and I was amazed at the ability of a man to so accurately describe the emotional struggles of many American women. In his second novel, Lamb proves he's got quite a few insights about American men, too. I loved the intergenerational saga, the wisdom of the Indian psychotherapist, the spiritual struggles and the positive but not perfect ending. Though some of the metaphors seemed a little overused (the whole monkey and bunny thing was a bit much for me), Lamb is a complex writer, able to weave insights, depth and complexity into a wonderfully-told story that will keep a reader's attention for 900-plus pages.
Rating: Summary: Totally engrossing Review: This is a great novel. It really took some time to get into it, but once I did, I couldn't put it down!! If you are looking for a quick, easy, fun read, this isn't for you - it is deep and emotional. Wally Lamb has done it again! It was a long read, but I was sad to see it end, even though the ending was wonderful!!!
Rating: Summary: What a great story! Review: I bought this book when I began jury duty last week. I figured the 900 pages would be more than enough to keep me occupied for the week. I finished this book in 3 days! The characters were very well developed the outrageous happenings kept the pages turning. One other reader commented that this book had an improbable "Forest Gump" style of writing. That's what I like about this story (the everything will be okay ending). My favorite character other than Domenico was the great Tempesta! I couldn't believe his arrogance. I really enjoyed this book and I didn't even notice the 900 pages. It was that good
Rating: Summary: The most touching, yet intriguing story ever written...... Review: This book starts out a bit different, with an unusual plot line and strange characters, but within the first few chapters, you begin to feel compassion and affection for these 2 totally different. Never before has a story touched me as this one has. I was unable to eat, sleep or do anything but read this book from the second I opened the cover. Although quite lengthy, it is well worth the time because once you get to know the two brothers in this story, you never want this book to end. It has it all... brotherly love, romantic love, history, suspence and terrific surprises in the plot. I cannot say enough good things about this book. Far and away the best book I have ever read.
