Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have ever read Review: Wally Lamb's newest novel was excellent. Most definately one of the best books that I have ever read. Although it is almost 900 pages, it went quick and easy and I enjoyed ever moment of it. I really got into the characters and had emotion relating to their situation. I would recommend it to anyone!
Rating: Summary: Such an intricate story. Review: This book is wonderful and I reccommend it to all. It is very emotional and gets you to feel for the characters. Wally Lamb is a wonderful author and I love his writing style. I hope he will continue to write more books. He is certainly my favorite author. The book is definitely long but trust me... it is worth your time. No matter how long it takes you... READ IT! You'll never forget the story of the Birdsey twins.
Rating: Summary: One of the finest books I've encountered Review: I Know This Much is True is one of the finest books I've encountered. As a professional writer with a B.A. in Literature, I know whereof I speak. Lamb's exploration into schizophrenia and the age-old brother-against-brother issue is sensitive and believable. Often, while reading this book, I had to struggle to recall that this was a fictional account. It touched me deeply. I've spent the last year passing around Lamb's work to my friends. I keep buying extra copies of this and She's Come Undone and giving them away.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Beautifully structured! Poignant! Review: Not only is he an excellent writer, but Wally Lamb deals head-on with the impossible plight of the relatives of schizophrenics. If this were the only valuable thing about the book, it would still be worth reading. He gives us hope through Dominick.
Rating: Summary: This book puts life into perspective! Review: I have never read any of Lamb's work, before this book, and let me sum it up quickly by just saying he hit my heart. Bravo!
Rating: Summary: A Dissapointment Next to "She's Come Undone" Review: Having fallen in love with Wally Lamb's first book, "She's Come Undone," I assumed I would enjoy "I Know This Much Is True" as well. But almost 200 pages into this behemoth of a novel, I was ready to put it back on the bookshelf and move onto something more entertaining, more enlightening, more redeeming. Not only has Lamb failed to make Dominick a character I could in any way relate to, he has failed to make me care about any of his predicaments. Nevertheless, I read the whole thing, hoping that through the ending, at least, I would find something to sink my teeth into, beit language, plot, or humanity. I found none of the above. The summary-like ending was highly anticlimatic - a "perfect" fit with the rest of the 896 pages. At the heart of this book is a good story. Perhaps Wally Lamb just needed a little more time, and a better editor, to find it.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book! Review: I enjoyed this story so much. It was the type of book that I think about often and I finished it a long time ago. The story was very detailed and the book takes you on a long journey that is worth the trip.
Rating: Summary: I know this much to be true--this book had to many words Review: I found the first half a struggle, it seemed repetitive and Domonick isn't a very engrossing character. His trials and tribulations just seemed to go on and on. If I hadn't read the comments about the last half of the book, I probably wouldn't have finished it. I thought the supporting cast much more interesting. Once I arrived at the story of that dreadful grandfather, I was fascinated. I agree that the ending was a let down and not very interesting. I am also disappointed that some reviewers revealed the end of the book on-line. I loved "She's Come Undone" and look forward to Lamb's next book.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: I didn't get a thing done the 2 days it took me to read this book. The ending was a bit anti-climactic, but everything else was worth it. The way Wally Lamb guides us through "poor" Domenick's life was great. There were a few predictable moments but mostly I was glued to the page anticipating what would happen next. I also read She's Come Undone and this book is right up there.
Rating: Summary: Simply fantastic Review: Its hard to know where to start with a book like this one. It is true that its large size is rather scary and hard to hold up while reading in bed, but it was worth it. Mr. Lamb has created characters that have such wonderful depth and power to them, it is like nothing I have ever read before. I strongly recommend this book to any person who loves a good strong story.
