Rating: Summary: esperanza rising Review: Esperanza was a rich girl when she lived in Aguascalientes, Mexico. She lived with her parents Sixto and Ramona Ortega in El Rancho de la Rosas. When she was thirteen years old her father died, and her and her mother decided to escape to the United States with Alfonso, Miguel and Hortensia(people that work in her home.) They decided to escape because her uncle Luis wanted to marry Ramon. When they arrived in the United States they worked in a camp collecting fruits. Then Ramona got very sick and Esperanza needed to work to buy Ramona's medicine. Esperanza didn't know nothing because in Mexico Hortensia did everything. Esperanza learned how to cook, wash, and clean. I like the story because I think that this about how it is for immigrants who come to this country. They need learn many things in order to survive. I recomend this book because I think that all of us need to learn how the people was sad if they can't do nothing, we need to know the value of life.

Rating: Summary: Riches to Poverty Review: I read the Pura Belpré Award winning book Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan. I give it four stars for its sensational plot and amazing characters. This story hooks you from the very beginning. It's about a teenage girl who grew up on El Rancho de las Rosas, Aguascalientes, Mexico. She has a glorious life with expensive dresses, parties, and a loving Papa, Mama, and Abuelita. Her life suddenly turns upside down when her Papa is killed by a band of angry bandits on his way back from working in the fields. Esperanza, Mama, and the servant family escape from her angry uncles to a work camp in America. Esperanza must learn little tasks, such as sweeping or washing laundry, which she had never been faced with before. Mama's sudden illness of Valley Fever inspires Esperanza and gives her strength to bring her back to good health. This story is based on the author's grandmother's real life experiences. You become close to the characters and can easily relate to their emotions. It's easy and enjoyable reading that also educates you on a true Mexican's life in an American work camp. It also informs you of striking within the camps; a feared and regular occurrence. Esperanza Rising gives you a foreign view of the important things in life. The story's beautiful ending and persevering characters is why I gave this book four stars. It gives you hope to never be afraid to start over. Along with this book, I would also recommend The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares. I am an 8th grader who loves to read.
Rating: Summary: Riches to Rags Review: I give Esperanza Rising, by Pam Munoz Ryan 5 stars. I'm sure you now want to find out why I gave this book such a high rating. Esperanza Rising is a fabulous book about a young, 13 year old girl who's family owns a large ranch in Mexico. Her family was very rich and had many servants to work in the fields. One night her father and a few of his friends went out to fix the barbed wire fence that was clear out at the end of the ranch. Papa's friends came back, but no Papa. They reported back telling Esperanza and her family that Papa had been killed by bandits. Now Esperanza, Abulita and Mama are left at the ranch alone, until Esperanza's uncle (the mayor of the town) came and told them that the only way they could stay on the ranch was if Mama married him. Mama doesn't want to marry him, so Mama, Abulita, Esperanza and two of they're most trusted servents headed for America without any money and without the uncle having knowledge of their trip. In America, they went to a camp for Hispanic people only, because at this time, the Americans thought that they were poor and dirty. At this camp, Esperanza goes on many adventures that will keep you on the edge of your seat. She also learns what it means to be a true woman and how to survive without other people doing the work for you. There are many joyful, happy moments in Esperanza Rising, but don't forget, with every happy moment comes sad. Some other books I recommend are: The Weekend Was Murder by Joan Lowery Nixon; Nobody Else Has To Know by Ingrid Tomey; Hard Love by Ellen Wittlinger; and Monster by Walter Dean Myers I am a student from Harris Road Middle School, and I would definately recommend for you to read Esperanza Rising.
Rating: Summary: A great book Review: This is a very good book adout a little six year old girl who lives in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Her family was very rich and had a lot of land, but everything changes one day when she was about to turn 13. Her dad died. Her family became very poor and Esperansa and her mom had to leave everything behind and come to the U.S.A. Esperansa had to start a whole new life. One reason why I like this book is because my dad was born in Aguascalientes where the book takes place, and all my family is from Guadelajara. Once you start reading this book you won't want to let it go down.

Rating: Summary: Best Book I have held! Review: This book has got to be the best I have picked up in years! It is the first book I have ever read and yet it remains the best book I have held. I want to tell my very great english teacher that that she is missing out on a great book! I give this book five stars because it is just, undescirbible to me! It ties you up in a web of hispanic wonder of how you can be filthy rich and the next day you will only be filthy! I am not a bookreader, I will have to admit, but this one inspired me that all books are not for geeks. If you read this book, it tells you all of these hispanic words that you will remember throughout the book! I think that if a cool, not into books kid, to good for everyone, got his hands on this book he would 100% surely never take it out of his hand! So anyone who is looking for a great book with a hint of sadness in it then what are you waiting for! Go to the library! Get off your butt and read this "" book! I hope I have taught you a lesson!
Rating: Summary: Consider this before buying Review: Hello, the intent of my review to going to be different. I know there are already various reviews that describe this book. The major thing I think everyone should consider before reading this book is the content level. If you are going to purchase this book make sure to keep this in mind: The reading level of this book is very simplistic. I would suggest if you are in between grades 4-8 then this book is right for you. However, if you or the person you are purchasing this for are profecient in reading then i would only suggest this book to kids below 6th grade. Lastly, in a very blunt way i am going to state that many girls would enjoy this book. The main theme is the love between a mother and daughter. Something I think a girl could relate to. Although, I myself am a male and I was still able to enjoy this book. Thank you!
