Summary: An Incredible Page Turner!
Review: This is an all time favorite book of mine!! It's a story about a girl from Mexico in the 1930's who goes from riches to rags. She overcomes major loses in her life, copes with a completely different lifestyle, experiences poverty, the hardships of the Great Depression, and Racism. Everyone can appreciate this book, but I think if you're Hispanic, you'll really appreciate it. I didn't know much about how Mexicans were treated during this time period, so this book really opened my eyes. So if you're thinking about reading it, read it!

Summary: Fantastic example of multicultural historical fiction
Review: A multicultural book that truly transcends cultures. Although it does an excellent job in portraying the Mexican and Mexican-American cultures, the concepts and characters can be identified with by a person of any culture. The concept is interesting and not often shown, especially not in the context of the Mexican culture; the rich become richer when they become poor, than the poor do when they become rich. Esperanza's character grows dramatically during the course of the novel as she matures, takes responsibility, and overcomes many obstacles. There are many struggles and injustices the characters are forced to endure, but throughout the entire novel is this ray of hope and the silver lining. It is important for children to hear the difficult lives the immigrants had to endure around the time of the Great Depression.

Review: Pam Munoz Ryan
????

In 1931, in Aguascalientes, Mexico, a young girl, on her 13th birthday, an awful tragedy occurred, which changed her life. She had to be sent away from home to work at a labor union, in LA. She had never worked in her life, because her family was very wealthy, so adapting to her new life was harder than expected. Everyday things like washing clothes were hard for her. More tragedies occurred, and she had to work harder. Things were hard on her, but she was learning to make the best of her situation. Things got better; a few of the problems were resolved. In the end, Esperanza was grateful for what she had, although it was not much. She accepted that she had a new life.
I personally enjoyed this book, because it sends out a great message, and it is hard to put down.

Summary: A Touching Tale that i can relate to
Review: This is a wonderful story about how Esperanza is transformed from a, must we say it, brat, to a poor girl that has to face the challenges of a work camp. I spite of this huge change, she learns to adapt and prosper, and in her own way become a better person than what she was before. This story was easy to relate to, and gives the imagination endless fuel to fire it with.

Summary: A LifeTaking Review
Review: The book Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan is about Esperanza a young girl that lives in Mexico. Her family goes through hard times and is forced to move to the United States because of her uncle Luis who is after her mother ever since her father was killed.

I liked this book because it's the story of how Esperanza traveled through the country. She had to learn to live her new life as a peasant. I like that about her.

I think Pam Munoz Ryan wrote this book to tell the reader about the way someone lived a long time ago.

Review: The book ESPERANZA RISING is set in the early 1930s at the start of the great depression in AugaScalientes, Mexico. Esperanza is the duaghter of a rich vineyard owner whose life is completely perfect. That was before her father is killed, and her father's brothers take the ranch and force Esperanza, her mother and her grandmother to flee to California.
All of their lives are saddened and changed. Then Esperanza's mother becomes sick and wil die if she doesn't get treatment. Esperanza must find hope or all of their lives are endangered. A story of hope, sadness, success, and fear.
It's a terrific story because it makes you think and really puts you in Esperanza's shoes. Ages 10+. An easy read.
