Rating: Summary: Delicious Review: For any who have lived on or visited Martha's Vineyard, this story paints a vivid picture of the quaint and tranquil island and the kind of people who make it so special. I enjoyed the pace that Patterson set, and was deeply moved by the tenderness shown in the characters. I received this book for my 40th birthday. Having had a heart attack myself before age 40,and having spent many summers on Martha's Vineyard, made this book touch my heart in a special way. Who wouldn't fall in love with Matt!
Rating: Summary: Patterson DID IT Review: I am an advid James Patterson reader and I LOVE all of the books in the Alex Cross series. I usually do not read his books that do not have Cross as it's main character but I have bought 1st to Die ( waiting to read) and Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas. I am in love with this book. I could not put it down and I thought the characters were likable, real and full of heart. I grew very atatched to them and felt true emotion from this book. I have made several friends get this book in hopes that they will as touched by it as I was. I think Mr. Patterson did a fine job with this love story and I can see why it meant so much to him while he was creating it and after it's release. KUDOS, this book is well done and it brought tears, laughter, suprise, anger, you name it. He even uses his talent at suspense within this book. This book is worth the read, even if you only read the Cross series ( like me.) I loved this book and still feel the effects from it.
Rating: Summary: Very good read Review: I cannot believe some of the rude reviews people gave this book. Maybe it wasn't written like an Alex Cross novel but guess what? It's because it wasn't one!! I thought this was a very good read as it was written by a man but was from a woman's standpoint. And Mr. Patterson did an outstanding job. I read the book in about an hour and a half and it left me crying and in thought. I recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Good lessons to live by Review: I love James Patterson's work...and was thrilled to see that he had a different kind of novel on the shelf. What I really liked about this was that it was not an overly trashy sexual romance novel. It seemed to come from the heart and had some nice lessons for life. And a somewhat happy ending...always enjoy those! Pick it up for a quiet weekend read...and after you read it, give your honey a squeeze.
Rating: Summary: Icky poo Review: This was a saccharine, annoying book. I got the underlying meaning of cherishing every single second of every single day, but don't make me nauseous in the process! I brought this book on vacation with me and it took me only a few hours to get through it. All I can say is yuck - I can only stand so much syrupy, sentimental goo.
Rating: Summary: A Different Kind of Suspense Review: If you are looking for another Patterson suspense thriller, don't go any further. James Patterson is noted for his suspense thrillers, many featuring D.C. detective psychologist Alex Cross. There have been some variations in Patterson's repertoire, thrillers featuring other detectives, and one drastic variation. That variation was Miracle on the 17th Green, a story of a man in midlife crisis who gambles everything on realizing his dream, and in achieving that learns enough about himself and life to save his marriage and family. Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas is another variation, reminiscent of Erich Segal's widely-popular 1960's Love Story. This is very different from Patterson's usual work, and, I think, very well done. There is an element of suspense, but people looking for murder and deduction, as well as people who did not like Segal's classic, should look elsewhere. Katie Wilkinson is single, attractive, and a successful editor in a New York publishing house. She meets Matt, who is a poet-housepainter on Martha's Vineyard, when his first book of poems is assigned to her for editing. She falls in love, and life seems perfect. Then Matt, with no warning, leaves her. He leaves behind a diary, written by Suzanne for her infant son, Nicholas. Katie begins to read and soon realizes that Suzanne is Matt's wife and Nicholas is their son. Wracked with pain and sorrow, Katie continues to read, and we read with her. We and Katie learn all about Suzanne and her life, and the difficulties which led to her moving from Boston to Martha's Vineyard to be a sort of country doctor. As the story unfolds the reader and Katie, become very fond of Suzanne. But this is the wife of Katie's lover who abandoned her! How can we? This is a very short book, filled with feeling. If you did not like Love Story, don't bother. If you did, then grab the box of tissues and settle down for a pleasant evening.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful story Review: I've never read a book by James Patterson as I prefer contemporary fiction and romance novels over other genre. However, if you enjoy books by Nicholas Sparks, Robert James Waller or Richard Paul Evans, Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas is a must read for you. Some may feel that the diary portion of the book depicts the relationship between Suzanne and Matt as a fairy tale. However, as a mother who has written letters to her children sporadically as they have grown up, I felt "her" entries were endearing. Many would agree that if you were to write something of this manner for your child, it should be about the wonderful ways they grew up and the special times that were shared with their family. This book would be best enjoyed on a lazy Saturday or Sunday afternoon when you have the time to devote to yourself, and don't forget your tissues.
Rating: Summary: touching Review: I have never read a book by James Patterson, but I felt this was a tear jerker. It was moving and heart wrenching at the same time. I would definetly recommend it. It is an extremely quick reading. I was engulfed in each character.
Rating: Summary: Simple, heartwarming reading Review: It's nice to read about a sincere, thoughtful, caring man who had such a wonderful life, and upon it being shattered, was able to pick up the pieces and begin again. The "nice" thing is that it is written by a man. The book is about human nature and dealing with tragedies life throws our way. Although the ending was predictable, since part of it is based on Patterson's life experiences, I'm glad he took the time to share a lovely story with us.
Rating: Summary: I loved it! Review: I just loved this book, its so intimate, it makes you feel like you are really reading Susannes diary for her little boy. I am a sentamental writer and a hopeless romantic...so this book was right up my alley! This is one of those books that really stick with you after you put it down. From the thoughtful smiles at the beginning, right through the tears at the end, this book is a winner! "Susanne's" writtings have inspired me to keep a journal to my own children as well!
