Rating: Summary: Syrupy sweet and overly sentimental Review: Okay, I had to suspend disbelief to accept a housepainter/handyman who listens to Debussy and Bach and whose handmade bookshelves are lined with classics. I shrugged it off that Suzanne was so darn optimistic and chirpy in her diary entries. I frowned in disapproval that Nicholas was seated in a forward facing childseat at one point in the story. I rolled my eyes at the inevitable ending dripping with weepy sentiment.... This might be a good read for travel - waiting, bored, in airports for delayed flights. But I can't give the author much credit for putting an effort into this story. The name sells the books now, not the talent, it seems.
Rating: Summary: Lovely and sweet Review: I am not a James Patterson fan, nor do I usually read "lighter" novels, but I really enjoyed this book. Patterson focuses on only four characters, so I really got to know them. Katie, the reader of the diary; Matt, her boyfriend; Suzanne and baby Nicky were all developed well and I grew to love all of them immediately. I find it refreshing to read about truly nice people. This book is not complicated; I started it one night at 10 p.m. and kept going until I finished, about two hours later. It made me happy and reminded me about what was truly important in life. While these people are very nice, they are not perfect. We could all strive to be less work oriented and more family oriented. I could pretty much see what was coming throughout, but like the characters in the book, it is an honest, straightforward book about love and family that moved me.
Rating: Summary: In Processmof Reading Review: I just started this book last night, drawn to it by the jacket cover and the locale of the story. It is a heartwarming look at the love a mother has for her child and the prospect that every mother or grandmother fears that she won't have the joy to see all that child becomes. Kate has her head in the clouds being in love with a man she could't see was never really hers. Was she a little naiive? Of course. Would any intelligent woman have acted against her instincts when she only saw the man she loves on her turf? No, I don't think so. But for those who are not like you and I secure in a marital relationship, this book may very well be a wake-up call to respond to her women's intuitions and ask those questions that plague her. I gave the book only four stars for as I stated I just began to read it. But how wonderful it would be for ALL of us to pass the lesson of the five balls unto our children and eventually our grandchildren. Give the book a try. It is a fast read and everyone will find an individual realism, but a familiar one that as teenagers we have at one time or another experienced!
Rating: Summary: Good Short Story Review: Not your average James Patterson thriller and not long on imigination. However, this little book (only took 2 hours to read) does give you much food for thought in this all too busy world. I found it was well worth the time and spent more than 2 hours thinking about and discussing with others. Something I don 't often do with other authors. TIME WELL SPENT
Rating: Summary: A disappointment Review: I read this book last night instead of watching summer re-runs on TV, and to tell you the truth, the time would have been better spent watching the re-runs. Seldom have I been more disappointed in a book. I've read some of James Patterson's suspense stories, and they held my interest to the end. It did occur to me that this was a bit of a stretch for him, but the hype given to the book stirred an interest in my romantic heart. I should try to remember that there is not necessarily any truth in advertising. I hate to think a tree was killed to provide the paper on which this book is printed. James Patterson should stick to the genre in which he has already gained a good reputation. Hopefully, he will quickly write another suspense novel with which we may wash away the taste of this story. This book would not have stood a chance of being published on its own merit.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: This is certainly a change for James Patterson. I loved this book and could not put it down. When I got to the "Matthew" chapter and started reading, I had an idea of what happened but that did not stop the tears from falling. It is good to read something opposite from what I am use to reading from an author. I plan on reading this again because it is a book that you could read over and pick up details that you might have missed in the first reading. This book made me think of different things that has happened in my own life.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful to read Review: I have the video tape of this book and it was so great I could not stop listening. I took it to my grandson track practice and got so involved I finished it by the next am. Is is so precious something everyone would enjoy. Please try it you'll love it
Rating: Summary: Heartwarming. Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It has a lot of insight and left me with a good feeling at the end. I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: I didn't expect this..... Review: I have to say my mom loaned me this book and told me it was a "nice little read." Well, it was more than that....this book only took me two days to read, but it's haunted me ever since. I read it in the spirit in which it was intended I believe--a simple book of "letters" to a child....therefore I enjoyed it immensely. It's the first time in a long time I have felt like crying as I read a book and I appreciate that in my reading. If a book causes me to feel ANY kind of emotion, then it's a winner to me!
Rating: Summary: Lessons with every turn of the page Review: I have read many of James Patterson's books and when I heard about his newest I wasn't sure if I would like it. This book is completely not what he generally writes, but he did a great job. With every turn of the page, you feel like you are Suzanne. You feel her pains and joys. You also feel Katie too, her pains and joys. I think that every woman and mother should read this. This book captures the true meaning of motherhood. That is is LUCKY.
