Rating: Summary: Lifes most important lessions Review: I had never read James Patterson before and was drawn to his book by the photo on the cover. To my surprise it was a wonderful book about life and how important our choices are. I was in tears at the end of the book knowing what the outcome was, yet I felt good that life had giving him so much love in one lifetime. The book reminded my a lot of Nicholas Sparks The Notebook. It was a book I could not put down and read it in one day and totally enjoyed it.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding - A Fast Read! Review: This is an outstanding book. Once I started reading it on a Sunday morning, I couldn't put it down and finished it the same day. The book envelopes you from beginning to end. This was the first novel I have read by James Patterson. It was very moving and full of emotion - a good quick read!
Rating: Summary: Very well-written and engaging schlock! Review: I'd not read James Patterson before and I must say he is a very talent writer. This small book will do very well, even though the plot absolutely wallows in its maudlin melodrama. Still, Patterson keeps the reader engaged and reading his fast-paced and heartful prose. It is truly a fine testament of the human condition that some of this eloquently stated romantic smarm is actually and accurately a reflection of how some of us experience the urge to merge. The setting and characters also ring true and while not what we used to refer to as "the horsey set on Long Island," to borrow from Tennessee Williams, the arty young professionals on Martha's Vineyard will no doubt prove as compelling to bourgeouis American readers as the former did a couple of generations ago. The handful of pop culture icons (Savage Garden; Harry Potter, etc.) are also fun and appealling. Elsewhere this novel has been compared to Robert James Waller's Bridges of Madison County. While certain aspects are similar, Patterson is by far the superior craftsman, like sipping champagne, albeit domestic, not French; reading Waller is more like chugging Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill.
Rating: Summary: Pretty lame Review: I gave this book two stars because it did hold my attention, sorta. But as one insightful reviewer put it, the story reflects the male perspective entirely. I would hate to think that a well-educated, intelligent professional woman would allow herself to get pregnant because she was "sure" her boyfriend was planning to propose. And the emotional gushing--especially towards the end of the book--was really over the top. Okay for escapist reading, but don't expect any lasting insights from this book.
Rating: Summary: Loved It Review: I loved this book from the minute I picked it up. I loved it so much that I was done reading it in a few hours. I could not stop reading it. At first I was hesitant in buying it because I love James Patterson's Alex Cross character. I always saw Mr. Patterson as a suspense novelist. But I was really surprise with this book. A must read!
Rating: Summary: life is too short! Review: I read this book this weekend and all I can say is - DON'T! Unless you are housebound and this is the ONLY reading material you can find and you have already alphabetized your soup cans and organized your sock drawer -- PUT IT DOWN! This is embarrassingly awful. Life is too short to waste time on this sort of thing.
Rating: Summary: What a waste of time Review: I read this book in three hours, and have never read a more sappy and poorly written book in my life. It reminded me of a love story I read when I was in the 6th grade; it sounded like a 6th grader wrote it. I have never read one of Mr. Patterson's books before, but know they are extremely popular. I couldn't believe that his writing skills were so poor - is this how all his books are written? And what is with his use of italics? Can't he get his point across without them? They show up every few sentences - very annoying. The storyline, although based on a true story, was so overtly mushy, was his point to depress readers? I was thoroughly disappointed by this book and am shocked to see it is selling so fast.
Rating: Summary: A new voice from Patterson.... Review: I had never read a book by James Patterson before reading "Suzanne's Diary for NIcholas", but I had seen a couple of the movies made from his books and enjoyed those very much. I had read some of the online reviews of this book and was torn as to whether I wanted to read it or not. After reading this book I understand why the die-hard Patterson fans were upset and disappointed. It is not his usual prose by far. But a great writer can write in different voices. And with "Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas", Patterson found a new voice. I don't believe he will write in this voice often, but there are times when in life you have to do just what your heart tells you to do, not what people expect of you, and I imagine this was one of those times for Patteron. "Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas" was just that, a diary and was written in short diary form entries. It is a short-sweet beautiful love story. To have love that is described in the pages of this book is almost a fantasy. There were times as I was reading this book my heart yearned to feel what these characters were feeling. But of course as in life to every story there is tragedy, anguish, pain, and a slight mystery. This book is well worth the read if you like a gripping love story.
Rating: Summary: Easy read yet deeply moving Review: James Patterson's lastest book is a delight. It's a quick and easy read filled with emotion and meaning. The "lesson of the five balls" is something I took to heart and made me seriously think about what's important in life. Take this book to the beach or cuddle up on the couch, just bring tissues!
Rating: Summary: Very emotional Review: Despite all the negative comments I have seen, I still think that this was a very good book. I read it in less than five hours, a real page turner. You couldn't stop reading it once you started it. Suzanne is a strong women who life has been changed by a heart attack but later her heart is mended by Matt, a sweet and caring husband. Katie falls in love with Matt and his abrupt leave, leaves her heartbroken but he sends her a diary that will explain it all. Katie is a strong and brave woman for reading the diary to the end. This book will make you cry if you have a heart. The only thing that I will say that is negative is it did remind me of "Message in a Bottle" similiar story line but I still loved the book and have passed it on to my friends who loved it just as much.
