Rating: Summary: A beach book - enjoyable but mindless Review: I found this book, along with "Along Came a Spider", at the beach cottage we were staying at. Both made for a good "beach" read. There are some wild improbabilities, however, and some of the flaws of logic are laughable (a captive escapes from the killer's hiding place in the woods, is found nearby, and the cops don't search the woods for the hiding place! ). Also, I grew a little tired of the racial stereotyping in which all blacks are noble, brave, and smart while almost all whites are either stupid, corrupt, or diabolical serial killers. But all in all a fun and compelling book with tiny chapters so you can put it down and go swimming or help the kids with their sand castle, then pick it up again.
Rating: Summary: Exhilarating READ Review: What a great book, kept me turning pages for hours. So Scary I was afraid to close my eyes at night or go hiking with my husband. Can't wait to see the movie.
Rating: Summary: Perfect Suspense Review: Just finished listening to this book and I found myself catching my breath. If I had to recommend a good suspense novel, this would be it. the suspense never stops from the first word and you are simply glued to the book wanting to find out what is going to happen next. Casanova and the Gentleman Caller have to be the most ruthless killers I have ever encountered in suspense literature. Monsters though they are, Patterson manages to make them seem highly attractive and desirable at the same time. I have to confess some of the sex scenes aroused me a bit but this was due to the readers ability to put you right there. I guess I'm morbid or something. The theory of Twinning was riveting and it gave some insight to these two psychos. Alex Cross was his usual best though one does kind of hope he gets a bit more then mere cuts and bruises while hunting down these killers. The house of horrors was well conceived and one could truly feel for the women being kept there. the audio production was top notch and you will find yourself finishing the book in just one sitting. I was kind of hoping that Casanova would get away in the end, that there would be a sequel but... well read or listen and you will find out what happens. You will need though to take a deep breath after you are done.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT Review: I gave it 4 stars and it will be rare when you ever see me give out 5. I liked Along Came a Spider more than Kiss the girls but this was very good. Things become personal for docter/detective alex cross when his neice is kidnapped by the killer/rapist/kidnapper Casanova watching Cross dig too the bottom of this is outstanding.
Rating: Summary: the eternal flames of hell burning within Review: Kiss the Girls is a wonderful, suspenseful novel, yet it lacks in a few areas. First of all, a positive point is that author James Patterson keeps the reader's attention without stop. One unexpected event leads to another and another. This accounts for the reason why this book is considered a novel in the suspense genre. James Patterson is talented. That one sentence describes the whole book. Many people, including I, could not put the book down, if we had used all the will power within us. Kiss the Girls is one of the best I have ever read and indescribable to the point where one has to experience. The reality of the book is astonishing. It's as if the tension and outrageous environments are palpable. Many times I felt as if I were transported in time and with the women in the "horror house." As each chapter passes by, Patterson feeds his readers a tid-bit of information, just to keep the reader on his toes. The two to three page chapters is a useful technique to keep the reader flipping the pages. Anticipating the next move of Casanova and reading on to find out his conquests is bone-chilling. Just the descriptive words will make you cringe inside. The way Patterson portrays the characters makes them just like people we know. Alex Cross is a person who is true to life; how he sometimes acts impulsively and is a careeroholic makes him all the more real. Kate's character makes us want to sympathize with her and fall in love with her, the first time we meet her. Naturally, the humane compassion side of us wants to reach out to her and pluck her out of the horrid conditions. Overall, the character portrayal is a depiction of reality. At times, the book slows its pace to a snail's crawl. This can be viewed in both a good way and a bad. First, a slowed down pace is necessary in a fast-paced book like this one. On the other hand, the slower parts detract the reader's attention to the faster paced parts. Reading this book made me think how horrible and corrupted our world is. There are people out there who actually kill for a living and indulge in it while they're at it. This is just plain scary. Talking about scary, I would recommend this book to people who doesn't get nightmares easily. Also, people who are of younger age shouldn't read this book either because at times, it gets graphic. Basically, kids shouldn't be exposed to the harsh realizations of life, like serial killings, even though this is only a fiction book. Stories like this are all over the news, and so this book isn't just fiction. These serial murderers exist, and unfortunately these killings happen in real life too.
Rating: Summary: Decent, but not a great... Review: This book was enjoyable but felt rather two-dimensional. I mean, you hardly got to know the Gentleman Caller, and before you can realize it, he's dead. You never learn what Casanova did in that house in the prolouge, which would have made a better story itself. The ending wasn't satisfying, yet I stayed up till' 3 a.m. reading it. Well, I had to stay up all night and that was the only novel I had on hand. Anyway, it's good if you're a Patterson fan, but just decent otherwise.
Rating: Summary: This is the one! Review: Of all of Patterson's "Cross" novels, this still remains my favorite. The premise was (at the time of writing) original and amazing. You could practically feel yourself there among the women trapped in Casanova's collection at times, and it was all in all a great book. The movie tried to be faithful to it, but 60-year-old Morgan Freeman as a thirtysomething Alex Cross just didn't cut it. Don't base your opinion of the book on that movie...trust me. This book is one you'll finish quickly and enjoy tremendously.
Rating: Summary: Good no brainer Review: This was a good book, with a chilling plot. Not to be read while home alone-ladies. It turns your stomache in a way that the movie was unable to do (and keep its rating to an R). Kidnapping, Rape, Rape, Rape. That's the plot.
Rating: Summary: KISS THE GIRLS Review: This is an unexplainably awesome book with a great story and scary parts to make you wanna scream! Casanova is the woman collector and is first ever real love, Kate McTiernan has escaped from his secret house of horror and now Alex Cross, John Sampson and McTiernan herself must fight to get other woman out the hell hole. This is a heartstopping thriller that will leave you breathless - one of the best books I've read.
Rating: Summary: One Wild Ride! Review: From the 1st page, I was hooked and I wanted to do nothing except READ THIS BOOK! I couldn't turn those pages fast enough and talk about suspense, I couldn't wait to get to the end so I could find out, once and for all, who Casanova was! The first book I've ever read that I seriously considered "cheating" and going to the end to find out who the killer was! A fantastic book for any suspense/mystery fans and also fantastic for anyone wanting something different to read. Buy the book and enjoy!
