Summary: How long must a man lay in the earth ere he rot?
Review: I read this entire book in about a day... it's easy when the author conveniently supplies us with bite sized chapters, perfect for this modern world! Who wants to be bogged down in depth, or character development? We want a world of red herrings galore, and cardboard characters.

That much I can actually deal with. What bothered me in this book was Patterson's rather disturbing juxtaposition of descriptions of well muscled, and flawless bodies (male and female) against the background of hideous violence. (The scene with the snake was completely uncalled for). Patterson almost seems to be at awe of the villains well muscled physique and *ahem* other body parts...he certainly writes enough about it. But the idea of these women being paraded around in lavish evening gowns in front of their sick captor is just absurd. And honestly, our heroine may be strong, but how many times can she be victimized and beaten and STILL live?

This book is a disturbing look at violence against women, made even more disturbing by the needless eroticism of the violence. This is just rather irresponsible. And set as it is against the flat, unimaginative prose, "Kiss the Girls" adds up to a book that you need to take a shower after reading.

Summary: Strong Characters
Review: Alex Cross truly is the most well-written detective of the last ten years. James Patterson delves deep into the soul of the brilliant man, and makes us empathize with him around every bend. Kate McTiernan is a wonderful character to compliment Cross. Strong, ambitious, and caring; Kate is a women who appeals to all. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat while exploring many deeper issues.

Summary: A Nail-Biting Thriller!
Review: In Kiss the Girls, James Patterson will captivate you from page one of the book! It is a story about twinning murderers in opposite coasts and their grotesque ways of torturing their victims. The book's 2 and a half page chapters keep you on the edge of your seat. Each chapter leaves off at a cliff-hanging note that begs you to read ahead. I personally found myself constantly saying, "Oh, I'll just read one more chapter." In addition to suspense, this book does a great job at scaring the living daylights out of you. I highly recommend that you do not read this book alone in your house. The story's detailed descriptions of the actions of the murderers are terrifying. I found myself looking around frequently, like the murderers were hiding in my room. The depictions in this book make you feel like you are actually in the book, experiencing it along with the characters. The black detective, Alex Cross, is the main character of the book. One aspect I did not like about the book was its racial stereotype. The book gave the impression that black are smart, courageous, and "the good guys", while whites are stupid, the serial killers, "the bad guys." The book also talked a lot about African American history, which I found boring and irrelevant to the rest of the story. In addition, many of the chapters were slow paced at times. However, I saw this as juxtaposition, highlighting the fast paced, edge of your seat scenes. A definite plus in the book was the way Patterson portrayed and developed his characters. He made them very human and life-like. It makes you sympathize with the characters, especially with the women in the "hell house." He made the killers very complex, which makes you keep guessing who they are till the very last second of the book. However, many of the scenes in the book could be anticipated. This, although, is not true for the very end of the book, where all the missing puzzle pieces are found. I would definitely not recommend this book to people who get nightmares very easily. The book is very frightening. In addition, I would not recommend this book to children. There are some pretty graphic scenes that have to do with torture, which would be inappropriate for that age group. People that enjoy suspense thrillers will love this book. It will entertain them till the very last page. It is also good for people who don't have much time on their hands, but love to read. This book is extremely clear and easy to understand and its 123 short chapters fly by in no time. As Sampson said in the very last line of the book, "This one is a honey."

Summary: It was riviting
Review: This book kept me wanting more. It was one of the best written books I have read in a long time. as 'Casanova' captured and tourtured the girls, i felt their pain and wished I could have done something for them. As i read the much anticipated climax, I was rivited to my seat and couldn't leave until it was finished. Patterson is a wonderfully suspensful writer.

Summary: A stomach full of suspense
Review: I thought this book was great. It was filled with suspense and it kept me wanting to read more and more. The author gave a realistic view, alomost as if you were in the book yourself. Yes, it was a gruesome story of how "Casanova" took many girls hostage and did horrible things to them, but that only made me ask myself questions. Were they going to attempt to escape? Would they be rescued? Would he get caught? I had to find out the answer to all those questions and many more. The book was nothing but excitement, and it always kept me on my toes and wondering what was going to happen next. the way that things just kept happening and being discovered made it even better. I recomend this book to anyone because it is so terrific.

Summary: Can't put it down, another great one by Patterson!
Review: My second Alex Cross book and definitely not my last. "Kiss the Girls" is a story of twinning murderers on oppostie coasts and their wacky and sometimes grotesque ways of toturing their victims. This Patterson novel was riveting and thrilling, but I found the book a little difficult to follow in the beginning, I kept confusing the two murderers! The other characters were good. I really like Alex Cross and his neverending search for someone to love (all the whilst being afraid to lose them). His family's just a little too perfect with the Nana Mama and two kids, but not a big issue. The story line is one surprise after another and just when you think you're safe and sound - out comes the bad guys again. But it definitely didn't end the way I'd hoped (you'll have to read it to find out!).

Summary: ! WOW!
Review: I was at the check out at a local grocery store when I picked up 'Kiss The Girls' and read the plot outline while waiting to be checked out and I just found the idea of 2 serial killers on different sides of the country COMPETING together almost impossible to resist...and with my increasingly difficult ability to keep from buying books, I gave in and plunged myself into my first Alex Cross novel. I have since come back again and again and I love ALL the Alex Cross books I've read, and just haven't been able to get into ANY of his other books, and heaven knows I tried. But he just can't pump out these books fast enough for me. I have come to see Alex Cross as the new crime fighter for the millennium...a definite break-away from the stereotypes of the past, but aside from his almost-too-good-to-be-true surface, I have to admit, it's difficult to NOT like him, or his giant of-of-a-friend...it IS however easy to dislike the bad guy here. A mix of Adolf Hitler, Jeffrey Dahmer and a few extra bad guys thrown in for good measure and voila! A REALLY BAD, BAD GUY. If you have seen the movie, do NOT let that keep you from reading this book. Unlike the movie adaptation of 'Rising Sun' by Michael Chrichton where they completely CHANGED who had committed the murders, this story's biggest strength is getting INTO the mind of the murderer's. Patterson is nearly flawless in his sense of plotting and the incredible speed in which he hurls you. All in all simply a fantastic whodunnit.

Summary: Rose food
Review: I live in rural New Zealand, and I know that if I want my roses to thrive then I can feed them on bull manure.

This book is total B.S., so I buried it, and planted a rose on top of it.

Unfortunately, the rose died. Pity the book didn't. Or the film. Or the author's aspirations to become a writer. He'll never make it, you know.

Summary: Absolutely CHILLING!
Review: As an avid fan of J. Patterson, I have read all his books. Kiss the Girls has been his best work yet, and I've even kept the book in case I decide to reread it! Alex Cross is the detective and must locate his niece Naomi, who has been kidnapped (and unknown to Alex Cross), hidden underground with other kidnapped women. In a race against time, he must locate and save her. This book will have your eyes feeling dryer than sandpaper - it is so gripping, you won't quit until you're done.

Also a major motion film.
