Summary: Could not and did not put it down until finished!
Review: Secret Prey, what can I say, it was one of Sandford's best! He did it again by setting up the storyline that will have you on the edge! As usual, the plots, twists, turns, ups, downs, etc., had me constantly guessing who the killer might be.

Lucas Davenport is one of the best detectives I have read in a thriller mystery. Though he has his faults (and who doesn't) the story never dies or just concentrates on one event. All the events in the story (old and new) tie-in together to keep the mystery thriving! As the main character of the "Prey" novels, Sandford allows the reader to really see the character as a real person.

A toast to you Mr. Sandford! "Secret Prey is a VERY GOOD READ!

Summary: Good but one flaw bothered me
Review: This book is up to Sanford's usual standards but the one mistake in Chapter 8 haunted me throughout the book. In the beginning of Chapter 8 Davenport is interviewing Robles. Robles states that he was on-line with a Bonnie Bonet and they talked about killing Kresge. Later in the chapter Davenport is interviewing Bonet and questions her about killing Wilson McDonald, not Kresge. At that point in the book Wilson McDonald is still alive! This flaw detracted greatly from a book that could have been as good as all of the rest of the "Prey" books.

Summary: There are not nearly enough John Sandford novels!!
Review: I have not been disappointed in any of Sandford's novels and only wish there were more. True to form, this latest holds your interest and it is difficult to put the book down. He is an exceptional story teller with enough twists to the plot to keep you from ever guessing the identify of the villian. More! Please! Quickly!

Summary: Smart , suspenseful and fun
Review: Filled with suspense and just the right amount of humor. I found this book enjoyable with a lighter look at Davenport and the subject. It had a nice rythm and I think the author dealt with the breakup of his relationship with weather extremely well. Not his best but his caliber is hard to match.

Summary: I was not disappointed by Secret Prey!
Review: I finished reading - and thoroughly enjoying - the first eight 'prey' novels late last year. Ever since, I have been anxiously awaiting the latest in the series, "Secret Prey". I found the many subplots to be meticulously interwoven into a beautiful mosaic of twists and turns that kept me enthralled from start to finish. Throughout the reading there were under- currents that pointed toward any one of several suspects for the murder of Kresge. Then, by interfacing not only past murders but also a couple more during the course of the investigation, the possibilities expanded and the plot became even more complex. It amazes me how Sandford keeps all of the details of his subplots straight. He must have charts like the ones Davenport uses to help him solve his crimes. Lucas Davenport has all of the flaws that a person would expect from a street-savvy, well- worn member of the law enforcement community. If he was perfect, he wouldn't be real. His imperfections make him as human as all of us. A regular guy. He makes mistakes, professionally and in his private life. His love life is a mess - sometimes up, sometimes down - but the constants in his life - his passion for his work and the loyalty he shows his friends - support him in the long haul. It's also interesting that he is portrayed as a wealthy man after the sale of his gaming company, and yet he still retains his passion for his work. It will be interesting to find out how his new relationship with Marcy Sherrill develops. (My assumption, here, is that there MUST be at least one more 'prey' novel yet to come - hopefully many more.)

Summary: Glad Lucas Davenport & Co are back
Review: It's wonderful to find Detectice Lucas Davenport back after Sandford's somewhat disappointing departure from the "prey" series. This latest venture gets off to a slow start as Sandford takes on the task of introducing a whole slew of corporate nasties who may also be murderers. This completed, the novel takes off like a rocket. Few can write action/suspense as cleanly and economically as Sandford. A great read that will satisfy long-time fans and new readers equally. Ignore the cheap homage to Carl Hiassen in the middle!

Summary: a must read for suspense fans, prey fans in particular
Review: Sanford is a master at unraveling a plot. Hints and keeps you guessing until the villian is revealed. Lucas Davenport continues to thrill us with his cunning and his rough and very particular style.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not up to par for Sanford.
Review: I was dissapointed in this book and his last book as well. Sanford's previous "Prey" books were much better. I hope he isn't pumping out these books just to complete book deals.

Summary: A Terrific Read!
Review: Once you pick up Secret Prey, plan on not putting it down until you finish. John Sandford has created a terrific tale to follow Sudden Prey and Lucas Davenport is at his best. The only disappointment is having finished it...

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great character, great plot, great read.
Review: As long as Sandford keeps writing Lucas Davanport novels I will buy them.
