Rating: Summary: pleasant enough, but hardly memorable Review: I get the sense this is a character who has walked taller in earlier Prey novels. It's hard to appreciate the people, actions of this book... although it looks pretty good following the loose logic of Mary Higgins Clark.
Rating: Summary: A disappointment in the "Prey" series. Review: The "prey" series has been one of the more fascinating and compelling detective dramas in recent years. This one is the least satisfying by far as Sandford seems to have lost his focus. The relationship of the suspects is contrived and inane and the police procedures, usually done well be Sandford, are uninteresting.
Rating: Summary: Typical J.Sanford..fast paced page turner Review: I thought Sudden Prey would be hard to outdo but Silent Prey is his best work so far. Neatly woven plot, all the old players, witty, with only Johns brand of humor. I read this book in two nights just could not put it down. Held me until the final pages. Anxiously awaiting his next....If you have read all the Preys this is a must read!!
Rating: Summary: Smart,Sleek,Nasty,Cool Review: This book was great.I own 4 Sandford books. In this book, he uses everything he knows about writing a good thriller.Secret Prey and Sudden Prey are both the best of the Prey series. It'll keep you hooked right to the last page.In my book, its a "page turner".SANDFORD IS JUST TOO SWEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!If your interested I have also written reviews for The Night Crew(4 stars) and Sudden Prey(41/2 stars)Peace
Rating: Summary: As expected, a sit down & do nothing else but read. Review: Glad to have the old gang back in this one, but didn't feel the ususal attachment to the main character. Also wasn't too crazy about the relationship change!!!!!!!!! Still and all, a very good read and look forward to the next.
Rating: Summary: Great read! Review: Lucas Davenport is back! The ninth in a series of Prey books and I think one of the best. It was exciting and I hated to put it down. The plot kept evolving right up to the end and Detective Davenport has lost none of his appeal. There was one thing that bothered me though. That his fiance would leave him because of what he does for a living. (Can't help it I'm a hopeless romantic).
Rating: Summary: Something is missing in this book, it's hard say what. Review: I have read all of the "Prey" books. This book does not, exactly, meet up to the standards of previous books. Lucas Davenport is not the "loose cannon" that he was in the past. The search for the villain is not as compelling. I felt that another character in the book should have, either been the murderer, or, at least, an accomplice. This mystery woman could have been the missing element. John Sandford is one of my favorite authors. He seems determined to rehabilitate Lucas Davenport. (He tried in Winter Prey, and now, again in Secret Prey.) Maybe, he needs to read Mickey Spillane and make Lucas more like Mike Hammer, like he was in Eyes of Prey and Silent Prey, the best books of this series, by far.
Rating: Summary: Another Great Lucas Davenport Mystery Review: I believe this is one of the most underrated mystery/action series out there. John Sandford has given us another great situation for Lucas Davenport to work his great detective mind. The plot involves greed at many levels and the depths that people will go to get to the top. Meanwhile, Lucas deals with some of his personal demons as he tries to solve the case. The only negative to the book is that it tips us off with 100 pages left who the criminal really is. We know Lucas' will save the day. Can't wait for the next book, or for a movie to be made from the series of books.
Rating: Summary: Welcome Back Lucas! Review: I LOVED this book! The reason may partly be that I have missed Lucas Davenport, but it did not let me down. I have read all of John Sandford's books. I have enjoyed ALL of them, however, Lucas Davenport is my hero! This book was a great fix for my Lucas addiction. The ending got a little unrealistic, but it did not spoil the story. This book was a great read. Whether or not you liked the ending, no one who reads this book will feel cheated. There are SEVERAL thrilling moments that keep you wanting to stay up late to see what happens next. If you are a Sandford book reader, don't pass this one up. If you are not yet a John Sandford reader, I envy you, there are lot of good times ahead of you. Jackie McAndrews - Houston, Texas
Rating: Summary: Secret Prey Surprise! Review: I have never before read a John Sandford title. They always appeared to me to be generic suspense fiction. I must tell you how pleased I was to realize how wonderfully written this Davenport tale is. It is a finely crafted novel that lets you in on the secret mid-book, but captures your attention until the last page. I will admit this may not be the book for first time Sandford readers. It is a sequel and often difficult to pick-up on what was missed. However, it is still worth the effort!
