Rating: Summary: Magical Adventures in the World of Landover Review: Terry Brooks has done it again in the first non-Shannara book he has written. Boredom is experienced in the first half of this book, but results in a stunning ending. This book does not compete with the Shannara series, but is one great book to read. This book has a few humorous parts, but still is packed with classic fantasy adventure. Ben Holiday, a lawyer, buys a magical kingdom in need of a king badly, not knowing the troubles the kingdom faces. A witch and a dragon are terrorizing the land and no one but a puny race will support the Ben. Ben has to go through many near death experiences with the aid of no one but Paladin who only shows up when Ben is in danger. His only servants are a bumbling wizard named Questor Thews (who can't cast the spells he tries to cast), a talking dog named Abernathy (who is very critical), two disgraceful gnomes (who are also eaters of dogs, which is a practice Abernathy finds disgusting), and a fairy called Willow (who turns into a tree when threatened). Overall, the book is pretty entertaining. The only part I didn't like was that it was a little boring in the first part. If it weren't for that, I would have rated this book a 9 or a 10. Rent it, buy it, just read it!
Rating: Summary: Great, Great a must read. Where's the screen play Terry? Review: I 1st read Magic Kingdon 4 Sale while in the Desert of Saudi Arabia, while waiting on Desert Storm. I loved it then, it took me away from everything, and I love it now as I have read Magic Kindom 4 Sale at least 4 times. I'm interested in writing the screen play for a possible movie what do you think Mr. Brooks? (email me please if you have a responce 4 me)? This would make such a good fantacy movie given a proper production!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Terry Brooks's other works were good, but this is great! Review: I can not believe how much I did enjoy this book. Going so far as to wish that I was also there. What a wonderful place to play!
Rating: Summary: Very Fanstasitic, I really enjoyed it Review: I didn't get to read all of it ( I had to take it back to the library, and when I came back someone else had gotten it) but what I did read was great. I can't wait to finish it ( when I get it again)!!
Rating: Summary: A classic novel of getting what you pay for. Review: Magic Kingdom has an original storyline in the "buying" of a mystical kingdom, hidden in another dimension, by a would be king. This novel shows Terry Brooks maturity as a writer and is totally unconnected to his early fantasy world novels.
Sure to please readers of Robert Asprin and Piers Anthony. Magic Kingdom is worth the price for the paperback edition.
Rating: Summary: I wanted to like it, but couldn't Review: "Magic Kingdom for Sale--Sold" is the first book in a disappointing series. The central feature of the story is its biggest problem: the main character or hero moves back and forth between our world (20th Century USA) and a magical world full of strange creatures and events. It's a cute idea, but it simply doesn't work. By keeping one foot in the "real" world, Brooks undermines his ability to develop a convincing fantasy world. Brooks forces readers back into the harsh world that fantasy novels typically escape. The story keeps interrupting itself. The Magic Kindgom seems forever light-minded because it is constantly juxtaposed with the gravity of downtown USA (noise, crowds, traffic, pollution, cynicism, the whole real-world mess). The characters are often comical, but never compelling.
I highly recommend the Shannara series, which is Terry Brooks' best work so far. Brooks is best when he writes with his heart, not his head.
Rating: Summary: I was skeptical but I was proved wrong... Review: I first discovered Terry Brooks through his seven (now eight) books of Shannara. When I had finished the seventh one I wanted more books by him, and that is when I found Magic kingdom for Sale- Sold!I looked through it, read the back cover summary and felt unwanting to venture into a new world besides Shannara; resistant I was to enter a new line of books.
Eventually, I gave the book a shot. Starting in our own world and being intwined into the depairs and sorrows a certain lawyer. When he entered this so called magical kingdom he bought (though everyone thought he was insane) he found himself in a dangerous and strange land. And he kept on seeing the appearance of the mysterious Paladin that would save him ever so often.
Then he earned his rightful kingship, but no one cared to have a new king. And no one would obey this so called king, he was a King of Nothing you could say. Except for the remainder of the royal staff. He also learns that there has been others like him who bought this kingdom, that he wasn't the first. That they had all left or been slain. But he decided that he would become king of this land if it was the last thing he did.
Thus enravels the tale of the king to be, and his trials to become king. Terry Brooks yet again has made yet another beautiful world. One that can not even be compared to that of Tolkeins, this world is so different then anything else I have read but yet so interesting. You have to buy the book to see what I mean.
Rating: Summary: Cool stuff man Review: I must say that I am not a really big reader, actually I haven't read a book that contained more than two-hundred pages for fun in a long time.I checked out Magic Kingdom
For Sale-sold at my school's library,It didn't look like
I would enjoy this book very much, but I read the first 10
or so pages and it really intrested me,now I am on page 203
and so far it is the book I have ever read, and now I already
checked out the Black Unicorn, and I can't wait to read it.So I must say Terry Brooks is a great author and has a great mind to be able to come up with great characters like Ben Holiday,Quester Thews,Abernathy the talking dog,and the constantly hissing Kabolds Parsnip and Bunion.Great book
,and I can't wait to read the rest in the Magic Kingdom series.
Rating: Summary: Terry Brooks never fails Review: I personally like his Shannara series better, but this is a
good, humorous approach to fantasy. Approved? Yes.
