Rating: Summary: Junie B. Fever!!! Review: As a first-year first grade teacher, I began reading the Junie B. series to my class (I admit, with some trepidation) in September of 2002. Since the introduction of Junie B. "Fever" in my classroom, I have heard the following comments in my room:-"Stop it. You're acting like Junie B. Jones" (said to another student) -"Miss A, you better close the door for read aloud today if your're reading Junie B. Jones because you're always noisy when you're pretending you're her! [giggle, giggle]" -"Miss A, you need a vacation!" (Junie's teacher "Mrs." often says this when Junie B. gets crazy - one of my students noticed I was getting a little flustered one day and said it to me!) Junie B. is hysterical, her antics will leave your children begging for just one more chapter, and laughter will fill your classroom or home. I do advise against reading ONLY Junie B. Jones books though: while my children are enjoying checking off each book in the series as we read it from our class list, I INSIST that we (and you) read great literature in between Junie B. books: award winners, non-fiction, poetry, etc. Barbara Park writes the Junie B. books with horrible grammar, as she is using a kindergartener's point of view, and you don't want that to be your child's only exposure to reading. On the flip side of that coin though, I also insist that my students ADORE reading, and Barbara Park's Junie B. Jones series is a winner on all levels when it comes to getting children into the fun of reading.
Rating: Summary: Ms. Park tries too hard to sound like a kid Review: Being a real kid--I am 8, but my mom is typing--I think Junie B. Jones is not a good book series. Ms. Park tries to sound like a child, but it doesn't work, and she should know that kids know better grammar than words like "bestest" and "runned." Junie B. is not the kind of girl I would like for a friend. She watches too much TV, is rude to everyone and thinks she's the "bestest." I think Junie is not a good representation of today's kids. Do not waste your time on these books.
Rating: Summary: Who needs the bad grammar? Review: The story line is indeed amusing, but who wants to teach their young readers with a heavy dose of bad grammar? My five year old uses English with more precision, and although she giggles at Junie's antics, I am disappointed that every other sentence is incorrect. "Grandma says I'm gonna get runned over by an ice cream truck." "After that, I got sended to my room." Who needs this? I don't think it adds any value, nor does it make Junie more believably 6 years old to have her unable to conjugate a verb. And no, I'm not a grammar teacher, nor a librarian.
Rating: Summary: A blissful trip to Disney World! Review: We took Junie B. Jones on tape in the car with us for an 8 hour trip to Disney -- both my children, ages 2 and 5, were enthralled from beginning to end. They listened to the whole thing three times all together, and even Dad the driver was laughing out loud at times. We read the books at bedtime, and know all the stories by heart, but my girls still couldn't get enough of the tapes. I highly recommend them, and plan to get all the collections for our trip to grandparents, etc.
Rating: Summary: Fun For All Review: I read the Junie B. books to my kids at bedtime. They are very entertaining to my 5, 9 and 12 year old... and me!
Rating: Summary: Great for long rode trips! Review: Junie B. Jones cassettes entertained my 5 and 9 year olds, when we were driving back from Xmas at Grandma's. I didn't hear them asking when we would be getting home! They listened closely, and want to hear the rest of the series!
Rating: Summary: Fun to listen to! Review: I bought the audio cassette version for my 4 year old daughter who is blind. She absolutly loved it! The narrator uses a child's voice and within the story it descripes some of the things that Junie B. is doing or saying (saving me the explanation). She listen to it to go to bed and wanted to listen again this morning. I will be putting the whole Junie B. Collection (paperbck and audio cassette) on her wish list for Christmas!
Rating: Summary: Great books for kids! Review: These books are great for young kids. My daughter started reading a little early and her kindergarten teacher introduced her to these books. She loves them. She is now in 1rst grade and has started reading the 1rst grade series. What a great series to start your young reader on.
Rating: Summary: Your Child Deserves Better Review: My 6 year old daughter brought one of these books home and I was disappointed it was even available in the school library. The grammar is awful and the main character has an attitude no one should encourage their child to have. There are a lot of early reading books that are both entertaining and educational without leading young children in the wrong direction. Try some books by E. B. White.
Rating: Summary: My family loves Junie B. Jones, she's"HILARIOUS' Review: Thank you Barbara Park, because now my daughter(6 1/2 yrs.old)loves to read! read! read!. She reads out loud in the car, before bedtime and sometimes we have to wait till she is done with a chapter before eating dinner. She is now reading chapter books and is ahead in her class. As for the grammer she gets it!!!! and laughs. As far as my daughters behavior, no she hasn't turned into a Junie B. Jones. With the way our world is today its wonderful to see my family laughing. We can't get enough of June B.!!!!!!
