Rating: Summary: Strange but..awesome Review: This is one of the best books I've read in awhile. I don't want to retell this story because so many people already have. I like it because it's a change from reading books with the same plot. It takes a few minutes to get into it, but if you stick with it, it can be one of your favorite books. I loved it because it's extremely funny.
Rating: Summary: The kid with the problems. Review: Do you get picked on? If so you should read Joey Pigza, swallowed the key. By Jack Gantos Joey is a kid with Attention Deficit Hyper Active Disorder and he gets picked on a lot. His teacher asked him to answer a question he laughed and said "I'll get back to you." In the book Joey Pigza, swallowed the key .Joey Pigza's mother came back into his life he didn't like it because she was gone for almost all his life. He has to learn how to accept her once again. Joey Pigza is a good book because it shows how to cope with everyday problems. His mother came back into his life after a while. You should read this book because it shows how to over come being made fun of. Joey learns to ignore kids who make fun of him. You should also read this book because it shows you don't get every thing you want in life. His problems are his Attention Deficit Hyper Active Disorder, and his mom coming back into his life. I recommend this book because; it shows that kids have ALMOST just as much problems as adults have.
Rating: Summary: Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key Review: This story is about a kid who has Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADD/ADHD). It shows the life of a kid that has problems.Joey is the narrator, and he tells every little thing he feels. He also wanted to see his dad Cartier. The theme in this book is "That there's hope for everybody in any case".
Rating: Summary: Joey Pigza, You're OK Review: This story tells about the trials and tribulations of a boy named Joey Pigza from his perspective. Soon after starting the book one is aware that Joey suffers for ADHD (an extreme case). He also comes from a difficult family situation. Life is a series of ups and downs for Joey.Although many of the situations that Joey finds himself in are humorous, one can't help but feel sadness and compassion for him. He tries so hard to fit in and follow the rules, but he always ends up getting into trouble. He tends to blame his "dud meds" when he loses control. After a series of incidents, including swallowing his house key and accidentally cutting the nose of a fellow classmate with scissors. Joey is transferred to a Special School. Fortunately, he meets a teacher who is able to help him. He is returned to his regular school and the book ends on a hopeful note that Joey will be ok. As a former Special Ed. Teacher, I have met many Joeys in different forms. This book makes one more understanding of what a child with ADHD may be going through. It is both informative and thought provoking! Joey Pigza Swallows the Key and the one that follows, Joey Pigza Loses Control, have both won many honors and awards. I would highly recommended both books for children 10 and up!
Rating: Summary: Joey Is a Quick and Easy Read Review: I really enjoyed the book, but was a little disappointed as Joey began to get treatment. The book started out as very funny with Joey describing what hyeractivity felt like. But near the end, the book took on a more serious mood as Joey got on the right medications and made friends with other handicapped kids.
Rating: Summary: Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key Review: This is a good story, constructed as if the child is telling it, but woven as only a master storyteller with an understanding of ADD/ADHD could do. Joey is ADHD. I work for child welfare, and believe me, there are a lot of adults that are ADD/ADHD and were never diagnosed as children. Joey's misdeeds push the limits of orderly imagination. He tries to be good (when he remembers), but he just can't. Your heart goes out to him and others he reminds you of. (Don't forget those adults that bumble through life and careers undiagnosed - teachers, ministers and rocket scientists are not exempt!) The book is extremely entertaining to adults and children, while providing valuable insight.
Rating: Summary: Good book Review: This book was good for a 5th grade student. I bought it in 7th grade and was thrilled with it. It was a good book and definitely for someone in upper elementary. It seems too easy for someone in middle school and above.
Rating: Summary: Amazing!!!!!! Review: (...) I heard this book on tape once after I'd read "Joey Pigza Loses Control". This is the first one and Loses control is the second one. even though i read this one after i still understood it. Jack Gantos has quickly become my new favorite author. I also read "Jack on the Tracks", which is a whole different story line from Joey and that book is awsome too.I'd have to say that the 2 Joey Pigza books are better than the Jack books.I already have the second book of Joey Pigza and I want to get this one for Christmas. I recommend this book to anyone. I think your gonna love it. I'm also hoping to get the 3 other Jack books that I havn't read. Look for these books too: "Jack on the Tracks" "Jack's New Power:Storys from a Carribean Year" "Jack:Heads or Tails" "Jack's Black Book" "Joey Pigza Loses Control"
Rating: Summary: Joey is great! Review: I really enjoy the Joey books by Jack Gantos. It makes those of us who do not know anyone with ADHD understand what it is like. Joey has a great personality and try as he might, he still gets into trouble. He has an endearing quality to him and it comes through in the books. This book would be great for siblings of children with ADHD, although anyone would enjoy Joey's adventures.
