Rating: Summary: Excellent debut for Flynn. Think it could ever happen? Review: I was impressed with the "high-tech"ness of this author's first work. Could Americans ever get fed up enough with dishonest, digraceful politicians to assisinate them? This book makes you wonder! The action was great and the story moved well. I loved the unpredictable ending. I can see a beat up Arthur Higgins lying dead against a fence just as Flynn described it. Two thumbs up and both eyes open until the very end!
Rating: Summary: This book is almost too terrible to comment on! Review: To say this book is beneath contempt is kind. If you accept the position that you can kill anyone you don't like then this is your book. To begin with, the FBI wouldn't investigate murder, that's local and state area, and then to present the position that if a politician is crooked you can kill him, no problems with the law, that's just absurd. Save your money, not worth your time.
Rating: Summary: An edge-of-your seat thriller page after page Review: I absolutely could not put this book down. This was a political thriller that got me so totally involved I was jumping at shadows. At first I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, but found myself slowing down so it wouldn't end! If this is Vince Flynn's first book, I can't wait to get my hands on his latest, "Transfer of Power".
Rating: Summary: One of the best action packed books I've read in a long time Review: Term Limits was quite a surprise for me. I picked it with only a mild interest, as it turns out it is one of the most intriguing books I have read in several years, and I have recommended it to all my friends. I think we will be hearing more about Mr. Flynn if he continues to write such interesting books.
Rating: Summary: Well worth reading. Review: I enjoyed this book, but I have to admit I preferred the more lighthearted (if killing congressmen can be considered lighthearted) and more satirical "Blind Luck" by Ben Cooper, which has a very similar plot. However, this is very much worth reading. As Mark Twain said "it can be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly American criminal class except Congress."
Rating: Summary: A frustrating, disappointing read Review: The plot -- assasins knocking off Congressmen and Senators they find morally reprehensible -- holds some promise. The problem is that Vince Flynn lacks the talent to do anything with it. His dialogue is ludicrous, particularlly the exchanges between Michael O'Rourke and his girlfriend. But none of it rises above what would be expected from an 8th grade creative writing class. Even more disturbing than the awful writing is the message Vince Flynn sends with the story. Basically, murdering elected officials IS democratic, as long as they are sleazy. He concocts a thinly-veiled satire of the Clinton administration and makes the argument, however subtle, that those with high ideals must restore "order" by whatever means necessary. As a Republican, I initially found the Clinton-Stevens similarities to be amusing, but quickly became disturbed by Vince Flynn's implicit approval of revolutionaries and "freedom fighters." My advice: avoid this book. Even if the story speaks to you, be warned that the writing is truly awful. Though if you want to laugh at some pitiful dialogue and narration lousy enough to make you cringe, then Term Limits is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: Fast Paced, lots of action, never boring Review: This is one of the finest books I've read in a long time. I couldn't put it down. I'm almost sad that I finished it. I've read other reviews by those who nitpick the prose and don't think the characters were developed enough. My response to them is to get a life. The story is very entertaining and I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Great writing style, leaving you wishing you hadn't finished Review: The book is immensely enjoyable. It is easy to read...actually makes you postpone other activities so that you can see what happens next. The best reaction of all for me is when I immediately want to read other work by the author...and I just ordered the other novel by Vince Flynn. Great action, wonderful characters and a plot that kept me glued to the very end...and even wanting a sequel.
Rating: Summary: A fast-paced, hard-to-put-down read! Review: This book kept me totally entertained on a long flight between Chicago, Brussels and Nairobi. It's delightful, and I can't wait to read the next one!
Rating: Summary: If realism is your thing, this is your book Review: Where has Vince Flynn been hiding and why haven't I heard of him before now? This story is believable, fast paced and focused. Flynn doesn't write with any wasted motion flashing back, forward or bore the reader with obscure fill material the way a Richard North Patterson is guilty of doing. Get the book. Enjoy the writing and the story which is first rate. Flynn is what Clancy used to be in the early days before he, Clancy, got too prolific and boring in his writings.
