Rating: Summary: Game Over....... Review: As a loyal "Friends and Lovers" fan, Liar's Game was a big disappointment. None of the character possessed the charm or complexity I have become accustomed to in previous EJD novels. Dana was a poor example of a woman, a true "bag lady" with emotional issues, financial debt and open scars from a previous relationship. She overreacted, and overanalyzed everything Vince said or did to her, but didn't seemed alarmed by her best friend's dangerous night job or poor taste in men. Vince was meek and vulnerable, and allowed Dana to trample all over his heart and then attempt to give him advice on how to repair his relationship with his daughter- with disastrous results. Harmonica was the only decent character, and for all his efforts to share his wisdom it feel on deaf ears. I have always appreciated the interweaving plots in Dickey's books, but this particular story line had too much drama, and not enough depth for a real connection with the reader.
Rating: Summary: Liar's Game Review: Great book! Dickey's style makes you experience each character. I can really relate to his descriptions.
Rating: Summary: Interesting, but not what I expected Review: I guess I just have high expections for Eric Dickey. It was a good book but not what I expected. The two main characters didn't grab me. I mean it had some predictable turns which I'm not used to from this author. I was anticipated this book so much I ordered it from the the internet before it even came out.I mean I liked it but just not from him.
Rating: Summary: I give this a B- Review: I am a huge fan of EJD and loved all of his books, especially Cheaters, so I anticipated this book, but I must say that I was a little bit disappointed. This book was like a mystery to me, I could not figure out where the story line was going, even as it came to an end. I loved all of the characters, especially Gerri, Harmonica, Womack and Rosa Lee. They all represented real people to me and I felt like they were people I knew. At times Vince and Dana got on my nerves, she was semi-ghetto and he had no spine at times. I am glad they were able to face their fears together and work through them. This was a different twist for EJD and I like his writing style but this was not one of his better books. I give him a B- for this because over all he's an excellent writer with a great imagination.
Rating: Summary: You go Boy! Review: I thought this book was a very good fast paced read that I could sink my teeth into and let the characters take me into their world. I really appreciated the theme of the book because it's about what everyone goes through from time to time. Which makes Eric Jerome Dickey a very good author because he is so timely. All my favorites, Eric Jerome Dickey, E.Lynn Harris and Franklin White have stepped up this year! You guys continue to go!
Rating: Summary: One hell of a roller coaster Review: This book I have to admitte wasn't the best. My favorite so far is still " Friends and Lovers". Liars Game had seem repetative from his other books. The reason why I said the book was "one hell of a roller coaster ride" is because it had it's ups and down through out the entire story. Normally I would finish his books in two days but this book took me a week. It's not that it wasn't interesting it's just that the characters wasn't motivating to me compare to the other characters from his last books. Vince is a sweet guy who has been hurt and was just looking for love but just started it off the wrong way, while Dana in the other hand was escaping from her past and try hiding herself by looking for love. Thier friends were pretty interesting (Womack, Rosa lee, Juanita, Naiomi, and Gerri), I think if it wasn't for them I would of put the book down longer then a week. Your my man though Eric keep up the good work.
Rating: Summary: I give him an E for Effort..... Review: I just finished reading Liar's Game. Once again sisters were portrayed in a negative light. Fisrt Dana's gum licking, up and down , and up and down; grew tired of it. Could not relate to lots of the descriptions. On a positive note, an easy read, and a great book for laughs.
Rating: Summary: Could have been better!! Review: After reading all of Eric Jerome Dickey's books, this one disappointed me the most. Not only was it hard for me to concentrate on the book itself, but I could not feel any of the characters (especially not the lead female). The thing that really disappoints me is that when I try to recall specific parts in the book, I go blank. Nothing really stood out, except Miss Thang forwarding his calls to her pager, or the fact that she had to go to the bathroom to much. Even though this book was a disappointment to me, I will continue to buy others because I simply love his writing style and characters.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining Review: If you like Dickey, you will like this book. It's a good book to read if you want to be entertained.
Rating: Summary: Not the easiest read Review: I have loved all of Eric's books, Milk in My Coffee being my favorite. I couldn't wait for this book to come out and the second it did, I dropped coin for it. And was disappointed. Not completely, but enough. It's a HARD book to get into, mainly because the characters are so damn unlikeable! That may be the intent, to create very flawed people but these people had REAL problems. I can't remember the last time I had to close a book and walk away from it because of the characters. Dana, annoyed me to no end with her whining, peeing and basic ghetto-flaky attitude and Vince had no spine, to the point where I wondered how he could walk upright. With her trippin and him letting her, I gave up on this book a couple of time. Now the secondary characters were alright and kept me entertained but most folks don't buy books for the side act. For those who want to say they have all EJD's books, then you should buy it. For those looking for a good read, they might want to pass on this one. It's just too irritating to be good.
