Rating: Summary: A Thoroughly Enjoyable Book! Review: After reading all the glowing reviews of this book, I decided to buy it and see what all the hooplah was about. Now that I've read it, I KNOW! I'd Rather Laugh is an inspiration to us all, a moving account of one woman who, through circumstances,or fate, or whatever you want to call it, was given more on her plate to handle than anyone should be given. But yet, she managed to turn her lemon into the sweetest-tasting lemonade in the world. Linda's moving account of her life will have you crying, but her humor will have you in stitches. If you enjoy reading about the human spirit and how it can overcome any obstacle, then you are going to want to read this book. See for yourself!
Rating: Summary: On the Level Review: Once in a while you read a book where the author reaches through the pages and converses with you, not at you. That's what I like about Linda' narrative. I can see how this would be a comfort to many people who read self-help books in an effort to maintain, particularly after a major loss in their world. Linda's style of writing helps to ease one's sense of isolation. And her related experiences make it clear that any 'truths' you find in a self-help book or elsewhere that enable you to cope (even if only temporarily) are better than none at all. The author tells you up front and early on that her book is about her problems in life and how she bungled along trying to deal with them - a childhood twisted and crippled by her demented mother, 11 years of her young adult life sacrificed to the senseles complexities of the disease agraphobia and most difficult of all, the loss of her son. She explains what helped her along the way and what did not; what she used to make sense of it all. And she tells the reader that they are welcome to use any or all of what she has learned from her experiences in order to cope with difficulties in their own lives. I enjoyed her candor and her sense of humor. Thank you for sharing, Linda.
Rating: Summary: I'd Rather Laugh: How To be happy When Ilfe has other Plans Review: The book started out OK, was able to relate to her, but as it continued, she is still self-absorbed with her sad life, self-indulgent - unable to write a check for herself?? Please. And has misinterpreted Harold Kushner's book completely. I don't need someone elses neuroses in my life!
Rating: Summary: All I can say is THANK YOU, LINDA RICHMAN Review: I want to say that this book was the funniest piece of literature I've ever read. It was also the most poignant, tender, and heartfelt. I give Linda Richman credit for opening her heart to her readers and letting them in on her secrets for overcoming pain in their lives, as she did. It was like chatting with an old friend. I'm waiting for the sequel! Thanks Linda!
Rating: Summary: INCREDIBLE JOURNEY!!! Review: This is a most incredible journey that Ms. Richman has gone through. How many of us can relate to crazy parents, dysfunctional friends and some sort of dibilitating illness. If we haven't experienced it we know someone who has. Ms. richman eloquently and with humor tells us her story and it makes one feels as if they have a good, comfortable friend who understands. Get this book for yourself and those that you love. They will thank you for it.
Rating: Summary: I'd "Most Certainly" Rather Laugh Review: I have recently read a most wonderful and heartfelt book,"I'd Rather Laugh", by Linda Richman. Linda opens her innermost self in such a way, that you can almost sense what she must have been feeling. One can see her pick herself up and go on, enjoying life, with all its adversities. This book was one of the most enjoyable books I have ever read. My only complaint, would be that it read to fast. LINDA RICHMAN, MY HATS OFF TO YOU, YOUR ONE AMAZING LADY. Wishing you all the best that life has to offer, and always keep laughing.
Rating: Summary: THUMBS UP FOR LINDA RICHMAN!!!!!!!!! Review: All I can say is, WHAT A BOOK! I bought I'd Rather Laugh yesterday and have already read it twice! There is much to be learned from the book. Linda has had exceptional tragedy in her life and was faced with two choices--to wallow in her misery or to do what she could to overcome. This book is for anyone who has experienced misery and grief. Read it and I guarantee you that you will feel better about yourself and life in general and you will want to buy a copy for someone you love. I can't wait to have a Pity Party!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic insight... Review: This book written by a new author is actually quite profound in it's simplicity. I read it and enjoyed it thoroughly..The author has the ability to see the world as it really is..She does not downplay tragedy, but respects it. She has just discovered an approach that allows you the freedom to get on with your life and to cope with whatever comes your way..I have found solace for myself in her words and understand quite clearly what her message is..and that is to feel your hurt, don't push it aside..honor it..and then get on with your life.. Hip Hip Hooray for Linda Richman..I shall recommend this book to all the people I love..
Rating: Summary: A waste of time Review: This book is in my trash can. I bought it thinking it was going to have some good insight on dealing with tragedy in life. It's autobiographical and not what I expected. I bet writing the book was a good exercise for the author and that she benefited from it. For the rest of us the book is, in my opinion, a waste of paper and ink. Ms. Richman's tells us about her life experiences and the insanity and dysfunction in her life. We also learn about her pain - repeatedly. There is not, however, a good resolution, no insight. The book is actually boring because it goes on and on about how bad life has been for her. Her idea of a pity party sounds really crazy to me.
Rating: Summary: There Is A Light After All Review: I have had many problems in my life and a friend suggested that I read Linda Richman's book I'd Rather Laugh. She had read it and felt it would help me. It was the nicest thing she could have done for me, as this book has helped me to see a different way to think about my life. It was a real eye opener for me and it has brought laughter into my life, something that had been missing for a long time. I admire Linda so much for the way she has survived the tragic events in her life and come out of it with the ability to help others. Reading this book was like having a heart to heart with a best friend. This is a handbook of tools for living, dished out with a gentle hand and laughter. I highly recommend this book for the light that it will bring into your life.
