Rating: Summary: Deserves 10 STARS Review: I must admit I love the authors style. She doesn't take herself so seriously and I so admired the fact that it was her own life experiences that gave her the wisdom she shares with her readers. This is not a book written by someone who has simply observed people or who has a PhD or MD or BS etc etc. And trust me way to many experts have a real "BS" degree! Her is a woman who really understood my pain and the pain of millions of people, as she writes about losing a child, enduring a longterm medical/mental issue. And I like the fact she doesn't claim that her advise is a cure, but is simply an aid. And an aid is often just what we need. It is like the encouraging word that helps us stand up and try and learn to walk again. Like the advise she gave the couple with the baby whom they had to put in a specialized care facility, and simply needed to be reminded to do something like square dancing, which they had loved before the baby was born, and how doing this helped bring some happiness and joy and FUN into their lives if even for a few hours. If you have a friend or loved one who is dealing with cancer, or a disabled loved one, a child going thru some rough periods and the variety of life issues that are akin to a wrench being thrown into the pathway of life then get this book. Buy this book and share it. This is what I am doing with those who like our family are dealing with the results of a drunk driver, juvenile diabetes and Lupus. And buy a copy for your library, religious leader and your own physician as it is food for thought and good medicine.
Rating: Summary: Linda Richman helps you find your smile Review: Move over Doctor Phil. Linda Richman is my new guru. Linda found a way to survive some of life's most difficult challenges, and come out smiling. Ms. Richman is honest and funny as she tells of periods of struggle and triumph. I found myself discussing this book over lunch with friends who had discovered Linda's secret to success. Oprah, this has to be your summer reading book!!!!
Rating: Summary: MY SPIRIT SOARS Review: i've just read I'D RATHER LAUGH and truly laughed as hard as you can while reading a book..To read the travails of linda richman is to see a spirit soar to heights i can only aspire to soar to. Her wit and charm is life affirming. To read a book that makes you laugh and cry, sometimes both at the same time is truly a miracle. I've read academic books on the human spirit but nothing is quite as good as reading about a real person and a real persons life. Linda seems to have gone to her gut, not censor herself to let the world see the beauty of her soul and the flaws that exist also. This book should be recommended to those of us who've had a bad day, a tough life and challenges that meet us throughout our lives. BRAVO.. this book is a treat. Run to buy this book.... it will change your way of looking at your life and just make you feel good.
Rating: Summary: What a book! Review: From the first page to the last one, you gotta love this author. She zips open her heart and lets her feelings pour out into yours. She reminds us all that life is fragile; that we have to live each day with laughter in order to survive. Who hasn't had bad days? Bad weeks, months, even years? We all have, and this book was written to show you how no matter what happens, you can overcome. If Linda Richman did, you can too. Have yourself a Pity Party and enjoy! But first buy the book!
Rating: Summary: I'd Rather Read ANYTHING ELSE... Review: I've never written a review before, but this tape inspired me to do so! It's THE most depressing tape I've heard. The constant cynicism offers little to laugh about. No doubt Ms. Richman has had her share of troubles -- but they seem to have left her brash and cold-hearted. I assume everyone "makes it the best way they know how" - - so I assume her family did their "dysfunctional" best and now she's doing hers. I won't finish the tapes and wish I had my money back.
Rating: Summary: What a book! Review: If you read one book this year, make it I'd Rather Laugh by Linda Richman. Her humore will split your sides open. I don't usually read this type of literature but it was reccomended to me and once I started to read it I couldn't stop. Miss Richman is an intelligent, highly-intellectual individual although as she said, she graduated the university of Hard Knocks. I read this book three times and plan on reading it again to gain more insight into this wonderfully courageous woman. Anyone who has ever felt pain in their life will do themselves a favor by reading I'd Rather Laugh. Kudos to Linda Richman.
Rating: Summary: Changed My Outlook Review: This book completely changed my outlook on life. I bought this book on a lark expecting it would just give me a laugh, but it gave me so much more. This book is a God-send. It illuminates to your soul that every moment you have a choice and that choice makes all the difference in how you enjoy (or don't enjoy life). I never considered myself a negative person but after reading this book I could see little ways that I sabotaged myself and my enjoyment of life no matter what is thrown at me. Thank you Linda Richman, for writing such an insightful, helpful and yes FUNNY book!
Rating: Summary: HEARTFELT Review: THIS BOOK JUST TOUCHED MY HEART. LINDA RICHMAN, YOU MOST CERTAINLY DESERVE ALL THE BEST THAT LIFE HAS TO OFFER. ONCE I PICKED UP YOUR BOOK, I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN UNTIL IT WAS DONE. YOU SOMEHOW MADE THE READER FEEL ENTWINED WITH YOUR LIFE. YOU OVERCAME LIFE'S MOST HORRENDOUS ADVERSITIES, AND CAME THRU A HEROINE. I APPLAUD YOU AND YOUR WONDERFUL SENSE OF HUMOR.
Rating: Summary: INSPIRATIONAL Review: Linda Richman's "I'd Rather Laugh" is the best book I've read in ages. Anyone who has faced an unexpected obstacle can benefit from Linda's wisdom and courage. Her humor and honesty made me laugh and cry. I admit that initially I bought her book out of curiousity. I wanted hear about Saturday Night Live and Streisand. I found so much more. She is a woman of great humor, profound courage and insight. My only complaint is that my friends keep borrowing the book and I can't seem to get it back. Bravo!!!
Rating: Summary: SELF HOPE, SELF HELP, HORRAY Review: I AM THRILLED TO WRITE A REVIEW FOR THIS BOOK. I BOUGHT THIS NOT KNOWING WHAT TO EXPECT AND FOR THE FIRST TIME FOUND A SELF HELP BOOK WITHOUT THE B.S.FOR ANY OF US WHO HAVE HAD A BAD MOMENT, BAD DAY OR A BAD LIFE, THIS BOOK GIVES US A NO NONESENSE APPROACH TO LIFE. LINDA FINALLY SAYS WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT. IF YOU FEEL DEPRESSED, GIVE INTO IT BUT JUST FOR A SHORT WHILE. I NEEDED THAT PERMISSION. I THOUGHT THAT WAS A BAD THING TO DO BUT I TRIED IT AND SHE'S RIGHT. IT WORKS!!!!!! HER OWN ISSUES ARE EXPOSED WITHOUT ANY APOLOGIES AND HOW REFRESHING THAT IS. SHE VALIDATES THAT BEING HUMAN IS JUST THAT AND SHE EMBRACES HER LIMITATIONS AND MAKES US ACCEPT OUR OWN.. I AM GRATEFUL THIS BOOK HAS BEEN WRITTEN IT HAS GIVEN ME SUCH PLEASURE AND SUCH JOY AND SO MUCH HOPE.. I NOW KNOW I CAN DEAL WITH ANYTHING THATS THROWN MY WAY AND TRIUMPH. THANK YOU LINDA
