Rating: Summary: Finally! Sam & Alyssa! Review: I've been waiting for this book for quite a while. And it was worth the wait! Sam and Alyssa finally have their own story and it's funny, endearing, and just plain great! Suzanne Brockmann did a wonderful job. I couldn't stop reading it. I was torn between finishing the book and not wanting it to end. There were situations were Sam seemed really pathetic and Alyssa stupid. But that's ok because every situation they were in was most often played out nicely, and sometimes comical, you realize why they are as they are. I found their characters ingenious, specially as Sam tries to convince Alyssa to give them another try. Then there's Max, Jules, and Gina adding to the story. Too bad Jules is gay. He'd make another wonderful story. Great job Suzanne!
Rating: Summary: The culmination of several plot lines - aaahhh! Review: At last, Sam and Alyssa get the full treatment in Suzanne Brockmann's latest in her series featuring characters from Navy SEALS Team Sixteen and their loves! Tom and Kelly, Max and Gina, and others we've gotten to know have their moments in this riveting, highly satisfying, suspenseful resolution of Sam and Alyssa's story. We get to know this charismatic couple at much greater depth, especially about Sam's background and childhood, and learn what happens after the attempt on the President's life at Coronado, and the repercussions that affect so many lives. I HIGHLY recommend this novel to all of Ms. Brockmann's fans - just be sure to warn your family that you'll be kinda busy for a while. To new readers of Ms. Brockmann's books, I humbly suggest that you first go back and read her other novels that lead up to this one.
Rating: Summary: Read the rest of the series first!!! Review: This is (finally!) the story of Sam and Alyssa. I have been anxiously awaiting this book, not just for their story, but for Mary Lou and Ihbraham's story as well. There was quite a bit about Max and Gina. If you do not know who these characters are, do not read this book. To get the most enjoyment out of this book it is really important to read the rest of the books in this series. The order is: "The Unsung Hero", "The Defiant Hero", "Over the Edge", "Out of Control", "Into the Night", and "Gone Too Far". All of these books rate 5 stars quite easily. It is almost impossible to rate this book as a stand alone. There is so much history with the two main characters from previous books, that many of the issues they have with each other will be missed. However, with each book in this series, my enjoyment increases. I love all of the characters and I really enjoy that they will be continuing on in a new direction! Yay, Ms. Brockmann!! I only have two complaints about the book. For well over half of the story, Alyssa is not a very sympathetic character. She is pretty cold and more than aloof - not likable. Luckily, she warms up towards the end of the book. My other complaint is very minor, and this is the WWII love story. Normally I really enjoy the WWII love story (all of Brockmann's books in this series have a WWII love story), but with so many things going on in this book, it was barely a story at all. If it can't be fleshed out, don't do it. I have read reviews that were negative about how many things were going on in this story and I have to disagree. This book was fast-paced, with many characters, but it was not hard to follow in any way. The reason it is so important to read the other books in this series prior to reading this book is so that you are not lost in any way. Also, this book contains harsh language (I love Sam, every word is the "F" word!) So if you are offended by profanity, get over it!! Real people use harsh language, and what makes Ms. Brockmann's books so wonderful is the fact her characters are very real. On a final note, I completely fell in love with Max Bhagat in this novel. I love what a conflicted, crazy man he is and I am really looking forward to the story of Gina and Max. I am very impressed with how realistically Gina's "baggage" (I don't take the issue lightly, I just don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read the books) is handled in this book.
Rating: Summary: been there read that Review: over all as always, Suzanne has kept my attention. her characters are strong alpha males with a touch of nice added to them, The one thing that bothered me was the character Tom, It was like I read this before, The first thing that popped into my mind as I was reading was that Tom had turned into Morgan Treyhern from Lindsay Mckenna's Morgan mercenaries, It's perseus revisited
Rating: Summary: exciting action packed romantic sequel Review: Two years ago Navy SEAL Sam Starrett married Mary Lou Haley. They had a child, but their marriage will end once Mary Lou signs the divorce papers. Sam drives to Sarasota, Florida to see his little girl and insure the papers are signed, but instead finds a female corpse; his child is missing. Because the Navy provost marshal detains Sam's former leader Lieutenant Commander Tom Poeletti on suspicion of abetting terrorists (see THE UNSUNG HERO), the FBI takes charge of the Florida homicide. Sam's beloved Alyssa Locke arrives with her boss and paramour Max Bhaget to follow. When the dead person turns out to be Mary Lou's sister, Sam searches for his missing ex and daughter, but Mary Lou hides as an au pair to a wealthy family. If the terrorists find her she knows they will kill her and probably her child. While the authorities violate Tom's rights by detaining him without charges, Sam, assisted by Alyssa, avoids the law that ties him also to the terrorists because he has a child to find. This exciting sequel stars two secondary charcaters from UNSUNG HERO as lead protagonists while the hero of that first novel remains locked up without a charge (excesses of the Patriot Act?). The story line is loaded with action that never stops for a breath once Sam finds the corpse in the kitchen. Though the untangling of whom belongs to who makes for two romances, the tale of the tape belongs to the now divorced Sam with his gut wrenching desire to find his daughter (love making aside) and his ex-wife who is much different then the wuss of the first book. Rating: Summary: Gone Too Far Review: Fast paced , great characters, suspense, humor with ongoing story lines of multiple characters both in present time and times in the past. It also , once again, brings characters from past stories back into the present story. That is like getting to say hi again to old friends. Once again Suzanne Brockmann has put out a great tale if not one of her best to date. Finally, we can all read about the story of Lt.Sam Starrett and FBI agent Alyssa Locke. It was worth the wait. This story delivers. Enjoy !!
Rating: Summary: Can't wait for the next in the series! Review: For those who haven't read Suzanne Brockmann before, you need to know that this book is 6th in a series. It is brilliant by itself, so don't let the series thing deter you from reading it. I guarantee, however, after reading it you will want to go back and read the others in the series: (beginning with the first) The Unsung Hero, The Defiant Hero, Over the Edge, Out of Control, Into the Night and finally, Gone Too Far. I personally have been awaiting the release of this book since I started the series. Sam and Alyssa are her most popular characters and perhaps the most complex. All of Brockmann's readers have gone through hell with these characters (the author is known for torturing her characters before they get their "Happily Ever After"), but it has made Sam & Alyssa's story worth every agonizing minute of the wait. The sub plots in this book are woven expertly and powerfully. I always think I know where Suz is going with her next book in this series, but she has shocked and surprised me every time - which is why she's the brilliant writer and I am her dedicated reader. Don't miss out on this book and don't miss out on this series!
Rating: Summary: What a Great Book!!! Review: This was the sixth book from Brockmann's Troubleshooters series and it was great! Just like the other five books this one was filled with action and romance. I couldn't put it down! I highly recommend this book. Also check out Brockmann's Tall Dark and Dangerous Series (i.e. Prince Joe, Forver Blue and Frisco's Kid etc). They are soooo great (and funny, too).
Rating: Summary: mixed feelings Review: I have to say that after waiting so long for Sam and Alyssa's book I ended up having mixed feelings about it. I love Sam and Alyssa but I thought after two years apart, when they finally reunited there would be sparks flying, and I just didn't get that impression. Sam almost seemed too nice and sensitive in this book. Although in the last book he came off as a jerk, part of his attraction was his bad boy image and how he and Alyssa clashed so much. I thought their one sex scene was very blah compared to their adventures in the past. I did not think the WW2 story line was strong at all. It really seemed that she included this just to keep form because she's done it with all the other books in the series. I was excited anticipating Max and Gina's reunion but it did not really live up to my expectations. Max seemed a little flat in this book, and I thought their encounter in Gina's hotel room wasn't very exciting. Probably my biggest pet peeve with this book was the ridiculous ending with everyone planning to get married. You think people would learn from their past mistakes and not run to the alter so quickly the second time. I wish romance authors would realize that there's really nothing wrong with ending a romance with the characters established in a solid, happy relationship wihtout the characters accepting premature marriage propsals. Overall I am thrilled that SAm and Alyssa are finally together but I am wondering how the series will continue with so many of the strong characters leaving Seal Team 16. My favorite in the series remains Over the Edge with Out of Control a close second.
Rating: Summary: Finally...Sam & Alyssa! Review: I can't say enough about this book. This is one of Suzanne Brockmann's best books by far. Once I picked this book up I could not put it down. Ms. Brockmann makes her first hardcover book a great one.
