Rating: Summary: A review from a moderate Review: I consider myself to be politically independent, having voted for nearly as many republicans as democrats. The biggest thing this book taught me is that Ann Coulter is not for moderates like myself. The hypocrisy really bothered me; I found it insulting to my intelligence. For example, she likes to point out that liberals fight dirty by calling conservatives stupid, or by calling them liars. Then she spends several pages "fighting dirty" by directing the words she just criticized towards liberals. But that's minor compared to the end-notes....oh the end-notes. There are 30+ pages of endnotes (almost 700 notes in all) to qualify the statements she makes. In some cases, the endnotes actually make it obvious that she is intentionally misleading the reader! Again, insulting to my intelligence. Take this example - she agues that democrats are the racist party. She then provides a list of words that democrats have used to describe Colin Powell to support her point (with several end-notes that sentence). In that sentence, she says that democrats have called Powell an "Uncle Tom" and a few other racist terms. Then you check the end notes and see that Jesse Jackson is the one who called him those names! So let me get this straight - democrats are racist because Jesse Jackson called Colin Powell an Uncle Tom??? Are you high Ann Coulter??? If she were concerned about her integrity, she would use footnotes, which appear on the same page as the text in question and are much easier to find, rather than 35 pages of end-notes buried in the back of the book.
Rating: Summary: (sigh) Ann Coulter, Will You Marry Me? Review: I'm 18 years old, but chances are I'm smarter than 90% of the people, regardless of age, reading this. Truth be told is that most of the TRUTH that remains in this world is discovered in high school (which I'm out of, in college, by the way). Basically the title of this book says it all. If I could right a book about bleeding-heart liberals it would be called "Liberals: Only Doin' It Cause It's COOL for the last 30 Years". Liberalism = Naivity
Rating: Summary: It was as though the air cleared and I was able to see..... Review: I love Anne Coulter. After reading this work (and then picking up her other books to see what else she had to say) I felt myself being transformed somewhat. Like most of the nation, I watch the evening news, read the local paper, tune into NPR and take it all in. I make assumptions that what I hear and see is accurate and unbiased. It hadn't really struck me that the political bent presented on the airwaves was so stilted. Reading this book was like walking around, not knowing you had myopia, just assuming that the world was fuzzy on purpose, and suddenly going to the local optometrist, getting corrective lenses and WHAM!, seeing clearly for the first time. Do I think that Ms. Coulter is nuts? No, but then I'm not a liberal either, and that is definitely going to be a disadvantage when reading this tome. Is Ms. Coulter unbiased? Obviously not, but considering the liberal crappola I'm exposed to everyday, this is a nice balance of sorts. I do think Ms. Coulter is angry, but I also love getting the other side of the coin presented to me. I also find her use of end notes refreshing, not detrimental to the argument, as this is rare and if you don't believe her, look it up and read if for yourself. Reading the other commentaries on this book were amusing, the way an Al Franken book is amusing: you imagine a bratty child sent to their rooms and stomping about petulantly and muttering under their breath 'I'll show you!'. These are obviously not commentaries written by people who like reading the other side's response. I also think Al Franken is neither a deep thinker nor a polished writer and the more of him I read [like Michael Moore, another 'Big, Fat Idiot'] the more I think he's an imbecile and don't look forward to reading more of his drivel. To each his own, I guess. For every Michael Moore film you see, a Rush Limbaugh commentary should be included. For every Hiliary Clinton mock-up she has ghost-written for her, there should be a Bill O'Reilly follow-up. For every liberal, there is the common press and wire services. For the rest of us, there is enough Anne Coulter to bring us back to reality.
Rating: Summary: Certifiable Review: As a mental health worker, I can attest that people this filled with hatred frequently find themselves in mental care facilities. For those who know Ann Coulter personally, I strongy advise you to WATCH OUT! And don't leave her alone with your kids!
Rating: Summary: Boring and upsetting Review: Drivel. Pure and simple silliness. None of this book makes any sense. It becomes comical after a few pages because the author is clearly crazy. This book offers no new insights, it doesn't do anything for the Right except make the Right look misrepresented by a terrible, melodrmatic writer. In the ongoing debate between liberals and conservatives, the world needs more sane and true writing and less emotional, incorrect, revisionist drivel.
Rating: Summary: The Worst Book Ever Written. Review: This book is horrible. If you buy this book you might as well buy 50 Cent's Get Rich Or Die Trying. It's that bad!
Rating: Summary: Ann is sexy, but dishonest as Hell Review: Long, blonde hair, nice face, short skirts, sexy body..... but wrapped up in that nice package is a nasty, sadistic, homophobic liar who hates the fact that American law guarantees rights to ALL Americans. Ann is now part of the aristocracy and she wants to bring back the Dark Ages... complete with serfdom, the right to keep the peasants ignorant, only one official religion which EVERYONE will be forced to practice and a tightly controlled media which would be controlled by people like her and Sean Hannity. Of course she tries to make it sound like repealing civil liberies and returning to the days of sweat shops and the failed and cruel policies of Herbert Hoover are a GREAT and patriotic thing!! And of course anybody who thinks that Americans should have American Civil Rights is some sort of traitor. Her book is propaganda pure and simple.
Rating: Summary: Ann is Al Review: The reason that Ann Coulter and Al Franken despise each other so, is because they are the same. They both are both passionate, well-educated, and artiuclate. In addition, they are both egotistical, whiny, and blame everyone else for thier unhappiness. They lie on opposite sides of the political arena. When you read this book or Lies..., remember that they are BOTH giving you their side and only their side of the story. I gave this book 3 stars just like I gave Lies... 3 stars. It's the same book.
Rating: Summary: Footnotes galore Review: This is an excellent book but be prepared to have your dictionary at the ready if your vocabulary is slightly lacking. Very well researched and extremely imformative. A must read.
Rating: Summary: Interesting? yes. Fair? You decide. Review: I must preface this with stating that I try my best to be a complete independent. I see the complete idiocy of both political parties claiming everything that the other side does is "Un-American" or "Unconstitutional" or even just point blank "Stupid". I believe Ann Coulter has written a book that pulls no punches. She writes exactly what she believes and backs it up. I admit, some of her documentation is a bit shady. However, it is, at the very least, documented and all fact-based (compared to others who simply degrade and rely on others to perform their research for them). The bottom line is that, if you can get past the obvious narrow partisanship, this book gives you the opportunity to explore the interesting topics that Ms. Coulter covers. If something she touches on interests you, dig deeper and become more knowledgeable about it for yourself. Coulter takes the eyebrow-raising approach of the wounded defendant lashing back at her accusers. She is fiery and forthright and bit over the top, but would anything else sell books or make us write these reviews?
