Rating: Summary: Great, but not enough detail Review: I liked the way it came together and it had some great facts, but it lacked a lot in detail.
Rating: Summary: New Age Paranoia, Book 2 Review: Although written under the guise of a novel pertaining to "spiritual warfare," the conflict between the Angelic and the demonic, and the efficacy of Christian prayer, Peretti once again targets that fundamentalist bogey man known as the "New Age" movement. This time, rather than taking over a town, a "liberal" Christian minister and a college, the New Age conspiracy seeks to take over the public schools through a self-esteem curriculum that uses guided imagery and meditation. Peretti's book, like his first, is fast-paced and filled with action; however, also like the first book, the characters are unrealistically good or evil, whichever they are set up to be. And again, the world he portrays is not the real world we encounter everyday but is a distorted reality produced by the paranoid musings of a variant of Protestant fundamentalism that is divorced from both religious reality and from any type of self-criticism. This book may be believable if one really does believe that religious sycretism that borrows from Eastern religions is not simply theologically misguided but evil and demonic as well. (Does anyone out there know any practitioners of Yoga or Buddhist meditation who are evil, who channel demonic spirits, etc.?) The fact that so many of Peretti's readers adore this book is a dangerous sign for the religious health of our nation. It would be nice to see a fundamentalist or conservative evangelical author write a book that emphasized tolerance, compassion and the interconnectedness of all humanity. This book instead depicts an almost inevitable conflict between persons of different faiths. How disappointing that paranoia and intolerance are so widely popular. Perhaps Peretti would enjoy seeing a new Civil War in America. His writing certainly suggests it.
Rating: Summary: inspiring Review: i was inspired from this im not much of a reader but the tape given to me was a big wow i listen to this over many times and its like a buster for me. i like visual things and this is the closest to a visual i can get. IT WOULD BE COOL TO SEE IT AS A MOVIE ithnk someone like Steven S. could do this.
Rating: Summary: This Present Darkness Was Better Review: It's alot like the first book only this story is faster and darker. Instead of talking about God's love and the power of prayer it focuses on satanic cults and demon possesion. The ending was somewhat confusing and sort of a let down, however Peretti does once again paint a vivid picture of the spiritual battle of good versus evil.
Rating: Summary: Action-packed and very spiritually oriented! Review: The continuous fight between angels and demons is very action-packed, keeping the reader interested. Also, the power of prayer and the power of the church is stressed, which are very important for a believer to remember. I had a hard time putting this book down when I was reading it!
Rating: Summary: They are back and after the souls of man Review: Tal and the host of heaven are again called to do battle with demons. This time to save a christian school. This is an even better read than the fist novel. The twists, turns and schemes are excellent with daring escapes, kidnapping and plots you would expect to find in a movie. This is a must read, putting an even better perspective on spiritual warfare and prayer than his previous novel.
Rating: Summary: Excellent and imaginative. Would make an awesome movie! Review: My grandmother brought this book home from church long ago. I was intrigued and began to read. I was drawn into a spiritual world and was witnessing the battles going on that we are never aware of. Whether Scriptually accurate or not, I'm not sure how so, this book got me thinking more about the spiritual realm, and the work that angels do. Not merely entertaining, but thought provoking as well. If it were done right, I think a major motion picture based on this book would be great.
Rating: Summary: I am now more aware of how much God loves and protects us Review: This book was magnificent. I enjoyed it thoroughly as I enjoyed The Prophet and This Present Darkness. I cannot wait to read another one of Mr. Peretti's novels. God bless him!
Rating: Summary: An Excellent reminder of how important our Christianity is!! Review: I loved this book, especially since it followed and included characters from This Present Darkeness. It truly inspired me to be the best Christian I can be - and to remember that God is with us always. It makes you realize that there are real evil spirits at work, and that we all must pray and have faith in Jesus, and our holy warriors - to do battle against evil. Keep writing Mr. Peretti!
Rating: Summary: excellent and suspenseful fiction providing spiritual truths Review: I could not put this book down. It follows the same pattern and standard of This Present Darkness. The fiction is superb, and the spiritual warfare story is enlightening to say the least. Everyone should read this book.
