Rating: Summary: A Thought Provoking Masterpiece Review: Mr. David Duke has written an excellent book about a topic many fear to discuss: Race. He provides and fosters a scholarly forum to discuss this critical issue of our time. For those who simply see Mr. Duke as a racist and pass him off as such truely need to look inside themselves at their own values and morals. David Duke is the most open-minded individual one can come by. He is a changed man that has grown not only mental but spiritually and will continue to do so. He is a searcher of Truth for the individual in a time when politicans and the media want to silence anyone who speaks for the people. Mr. Duke I commend you on your book. It is an eye opening piece of literature that one must embrace to understand oneself and the world we live in.
Rating: Summary: Inspirational reading Review: I found this book very inspiring. Duke has researched it very well and he seems to have touched on a number of pertinent issues that most people are not exposed to in the mass media. The fact that so much of his book is devoted to issues that are not in the media, bring home the idea that the mass media is in fact manipulative and grossly missrepresentative. Duke's book is very enlightening in this respect. The race issues in the book are sometimes rather extreme and I cannot agree on all of the points raised, although most of the factual information is true. I think all people, not only white people should read this book objectively.
Rating: Summary: This guy is fearless! Review: "My Awakening" by David Duke is one book that brings together a coherent view of the most important question of our times, race. This book is very hard to put down. The hypocritical racial doctrines at the core of Jewish political action are fully and honestly portrayed, and their hostile effect on white European values are exposed without even a nod to political correctness! He shows how the current dominant ideology of multiculturalism and environmentalism in the West can only be understood in the context of the Jews' evolutionary strategies and their racial history. The Jewish organizations' blackmailing of Swiss banks can only be understood in terms of what he has to say about the Holocaust industry. Duke's demonization in the press can be countered only by reading his own words.... This guy is fearless!
Rating: Summary: Here I Stand . . . Review: . . . I can do no other. Thus spake Martin Luther half a millenium ago. Now, David Duke makes his stand. He can do no other. Even his enemies should respect him for that. The Forward is one of the strong points of this book. Written by Glayde Whitney, it details the philosophy of Thales of Miletus that the real world should be observed and analyzed, and that free discussion of what is found be allowed. The Forward contains a well-written abstract of the book. Its brevity helps ideas stand out clearly. For example, we smugly moralize that people in Communist countries only hear what their rulers want them to hear. We look past the beam in our own eye. Inscribed on the Jefferson Monument is: "Nothing is more certainly written in the book of fate than that these people [Negroes] are to be free." What is missing is the rest of the quotation: "Nor is it less certain that the two races, equally free, cannot live in the same government." My, my. I have known for decades that there isn't a dime's worth of difference among the major news magazines, newspapers, and TV news programs. I have watched the steady erosion of decency in radio and TV programs, and the movies. Rumors abounded, but nothing substantial was offered until this book. Once someone spells it out, as David Duke has done, it all makes sense. I remain leery, though, and retain Andy Groves' attitude, "Only The Paranoid Survive." I recommend "My Awakening." Read it and think. Then, be prepared to enter the dialogue that will last for decades. No nation throughout history has solved the problem of how people of various cultures can live together without one culture trying to destroy the others. Americans have a unique opportunity to try to solve that problem, but only if we reject the blender mishmash that we are fed daily.
Rating: Summary: A surprise in many respects Review: I consider myself a moderate, and have a lot of liberal and conservative perspectives on various issues. I bought the book because I wanted to get a different perspective on issues that I have just-not-quite-felt-totally-comfortable-with in the past, and learn what a man who I considered to be an extremist had to say about these issues. While the author can probably never overcome the notoriety of his past leadership of the Ku Klux Klan, he does explain himself and his reasons for making the choices he did in the past. What is clearly evident is that David Duke is not the monster the media has portrayed him to be. His research into his subject matter has been extensive and exhaustive, and he presents a mountain of documentation and references to support his views and conclusions. While I don't agree with all of his conclusions, and feel some of his views are still based on some fundamental misconceptions, there is enough valid information to make me seriously question the general perspective on a number of issues as presented by the mainstream media. The book is fascinating and easy to read. It is both an autobiography and an examination of various issues, primarily centering on double standards in media, society and the justice system. These are good, healthy questions that should be in the public arena. I have to commend the author for writing a book that I found nearly impossible to put down. I would highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Incredible and thought-provoking Review: I've got to hand it to David Duke. He has written a book that is just about impossible to put down. And, while I don't personally agree with all of his views, as an autobiography his story makes fascinating reading. He provides a LOT of very credible documentation and evidence to support his views, and it is refreshing to at last read a different viewpoint that does not reflect the politically-correct media angle on the same issues. I have to admit I would feel a lot more comfortable reading and absorbing this information if it were written by someone other David Duke, whose personal baggage as former leader of the Ku Klux Klan probably can never be effectively overcome. But he explains why he made his choices and why he moved on, and nowhere can any suggestion be found in these pages that violence is an answer to change the status quo; rather, he proposes that white Americans take pride in their race, heritage and ethnic customs, just as black, hispanic and other minority Americans are doing. He also takes the comments of some minority groups and turns them around, substituting how racist the statements would come across if they were voiced by white Americans against those groups. It made me really stop and consider that many minorities show as much (or more) intolerance in their statements than the white Americans they assail. The book is incredible and isn't just another affirmation of the politically correct. There is nothing to fear in reading these views and considering their validity. I would recommend it.
Rating: Summary: 2 Books in 1: Autobiography and Detailed Race Facts Review: The autobiographical sections will let you known about his highly unusual activist. I found him to be much more interesting that the David Duke falsely painted by the media. The sections on race are devastating! If you think racial differences are only skin deep you will be shocked by the documented, encyclopedic treatment of race in "My Awakening."
Rating: Summary: This is your chance. Don't blow it! Review: You will find this book to be well worth your time and money. Do yourself, and America, a favor. Read it. There is so much information in Duke's book that needs to reach the consciousness of this nation. To take the silly derogatory comments from the one-star voters (most of whom don't seem to have ever even shared a room with My Awakening) as a valid substitute for reading this book yourself is to spit upon all that humanity has ever strived to build. Buy, read, know, share.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant research and exceptional writing Review: I had heard of David Duke, but I had no idea what an intelligent and forceful writer he was. His ideology is well grounded and well researched and I am convinced he is (or will be) one of the great leaders of our time. He dispels many of the revisionist myths which are trying to destroy our society and I came away with a sense of purpose to try and spread the truth. While I had asked the same questions he came to confront, he had the ability to research and pick apart many of the lies and misstatement of facts which the media and hate groups in this country try to pass off as the truth. I came away with a tremendous respect for his work and his vision, and I look forward to future books. He is certainly a voice for European Americans.
Rating: Summary: A challenging book for an open-minded reader Review: As a student of history, I have to say I'm deeply impressed with David Duke's research in this book. With over 1000 footnotes encompassing vast amounts of books, studies, articles, etc., Duke has constructed not only a convincing argument, but an emotional and rational one as well. Everybody knows that the media loves to make people like Rep. Duke out to be some sort of ignorant hick that wants to kill every minority and Jew. Nothing could be further from the truth. What David Duke preaches in this book is LOVE of Race. And not just love of the White Race, as Duke repeatedly emphasizes that all races should love their own heritage and culture. Duke shatters leftist arguments over IQ, Jewish Supremicism, and the Holocaust. What's amazing is that his arguments are so common sense, something the Left has not been able to do. The reader finds himself continually challenged by Duke's assertions and has the ability, through the extensive footnotes, to check out the sources for himself. I was especially impressed with Rep. Duke's account of his worldly travels, and his concern for the poor and downtrodden, while realizing that this is what could happen to the West if we don't put a stop to dangerous and irresponsible practices, like nearly unrestricted third-world immigration. I especially enjoyed how Duke read Greek writers like Herodotus in the ruins of a Greek temple in a communion with the past glories of our Race. Since I have extensively studied Greece and Rome, I too would like to do that one day! This book is a VERY persuasive treatise on what ails Western Man as we embark on a trip into the 21st century. Will Western Man still be here in 100 years? If something isn't done to address the problems presented in this book, we could well go the way of the carrier pigeon.
