Summary: GREAT BOOK for the general public
Review: This is a great, easy to read book for the general public. Although, it lacks the in depth HTML codes, it does offer about every HTML code that you need to run a great web page. You can read this book in about 4 hours, if you just read straight through, but if you are like me, you will try some of the things out as you go along, and highlight the important ideas. (I have highlighted something on every page!)

Summary: Quick Start - Yes
Review: I did alot of research on HTML books before choosing this one. I have had many years experiance in sytems administration but have done only a little programming. I have just finished the book in 5 days and found it extremely easy to follow - the layout is clear and the examples are straight forward and to the point. I don't know what a beginner means, but if you are at the point where you want to start writing in HTML, then this is a great place to start. I hope I'm as lucky with Java !

Summary: Excellent HTML reference book
Review: Great book to have next to your computer to reference any type of basic-intermediate level HTML code. Extremely easy to read and very helpful. Not too text heavy either.

Summary: Your Quest to learn HTML should begin with this book!
Review: I devoured the previous edition and the new stuff contained in this latest edition. It's a great reference book as well as an excellent tutorial. I've been a sales mgr. for Sybex, Microsoft Press and Osborne/McGraw-Hill computer books and I just recently discovered this series. These books are far better than the ones I used to sell (can I have a job, PeachPit Press?:))

Summary: Great learner's guide and experienced reference guide.
Review: I bought this book because a friend needed to create a website for work. The book took him through the basics much faster than I could have taught him. The pictures that go along with the code samples really help people learn quickly. A great book that I recommend for all people who want to learn how to build web pages.

Summary: This is my favorite HTML book.
Review: I just had to jump in and say something about Elizabeth Castro's HTML 4 book, because it's my favorite book on the subject. When I first read it, to teach myself HTML, I found it easy and effective. She presents information well. Now, I use the book as a reference, and I'm very impressed with how much detail it has. It's a very trusty resource. I think E.C. has an uncommon ability to easily present technical info both in the "big picture" and in the nitty gritty details, and with a balance between *why* and *how*. I'm grateful for having found this one.

Summary: Excellent Start in HTML
Review: I purchased this book based on the reviews posted on this website and I am happy to say that I made the right decision. This book is efficiently organized and very easy to follow. After reading the book only once I was able to create web pages in HTML immediately. This book is an excellent source for beginners in HTML but it is limited in examples of source code (You can download additional source code from the author's website.) As someone with strong computer skills I was also pleased that the author did not write this book in "dummy" format. Instead Elizabeth Castro was concise and to the point. An excellent first book for HTML.

Summary: An easy book to follow and learn the basics with...
Review: When I bought this book I knew the bare minimums about HTML. I went through it in about three days (just reading it) then sat down and gave myself a project - create a web page that uses frames, cascading style sheets, and a little bit of JavaScript. I had a fairly decent (and professional) looking webpage in about 1-1/2 hours of tinkering around and using the book as a reference. I found the book to be easy to follow and fairly quick to reference - Appendix D is a great way to quickly find the pages in the book that will guide you. One significant note: Ms Castro points out several tags in the book that are deprecated in HTML 4 and the WWW Consortium suggests you use style-sheets to perform the same function. I found that quite a few of the style-sheet methods that are recommended DON'T work with Netscape 4.08, but work perfectly with Internet Explorer 5. Well, at least Ms Castro still shows you how to do these tasks the "old-fashioned way" with good 'ole HTML!

Summary: A must!
Review: This book is must for creating a proffesional web-page. The book is organized into 1-page lessons, great for a lesson-a-day teaching. This book is a must for the beggining/intermediate webpage designer.

Summary: This is THE book for learning HTML ...
Review: This book will not only teach you HTML (in very concise one-page lessons, a great way to learn!) but will continue to serve as a reference. I pick it up all the time when I have a question. The chapters are easy to read and she makes the concepts easy to understand ... its a wonder more computer books aren't written this way. If you need to learn HTML and want to do so quickly yet painlessly, you won't regret buying this book.
