Summary: Servlets and JSP revealed!
Review: This book was one of the best JAVA books I have ever purchased and worth every penny! The book walks you through all the fundamentals of servlets and JSP's and how to implement and integrate both. It is easy to understand and has a wealth of examples that will get you started writing your own servlets and JSP Tag libraries. I have used the examples extensively to add to and expand my own tag library. The only thing it was missing was a CD with all examples and some of the servlet runners, but with today's internet they are easy enough to get!

Summary: Nice coverage
Review: This title provided a good coverage of Servlets and JSPs. Nice practical code examples and real world situations. This book is good in that it tries to integrate the two topics when most authors ignore the fact they should always be used as a pair. My only gripe is that they do only provide a few chapters to integrating the two technologies.

Summary: All Around BEST Java Servlets and JSP Book
Review: Marty explains more than just the Java stuff, which makes life easier to start learning the main topic. He covers everything from web servers to HTML checkers. Not only are the Servlet examples thoroughly explained, but they actually work!!!

Summary: Get started quickly on servlets/JSP!
Review: "Core Servlets and JavaServer Pages" saved my project from the disgrace of Active Server Pages. Our department architect prototyped in ASP... with the quick turnaround of the book, I was able to demonstrate the same functions using Servlets/JSP. We're going to production with Servlets/JSP.

Summary: An execllent book
Review: I know ASP and Java. I was just wondering what Servlet and JSP look like. But once I got this book, I found I could not keep it away from me. I am greatly attracted by author's clear and knowledgeble explaination and those good examples.
In addition, you probably can get quick and concise answer from author once you get a problem, since it happened to me!

Summary: More Action Then Words
Review: First, I want to develop my skills in the Java language, and I decided to start from something that it is very familiar to me, like scripting languages, so I decided to do that with servlets and JSP's. For a while, I try to grab a good book, I bought till now 3 books, but none of them really give me the information in a very organized way. They push a ton of information, and sometimes it is so much that in the next day you don't remember anything. None of the books I was able to complete the reading. Till one day, I told to my self "It is now or never, I'm going to buy another book, and this is going to be the LAST". I guess that it my lucky day, and I found the last book on the store this day. I was sceptic about in the beginning (well with the pass experience, no wonder), but as someone that is not going cheap on books, I decided to buy it. I'm sure that you get every day tons of emails regarding the book, and probably you are over loaded with feedbacks, so probably this is "another" one, but I want to tell you, that from the day I started to read the book, I cannot let it go. Everything suddenly makes so much sense!!! Reccomended from the bottom of the hearth!!!

Summary: Lots of accesable information for any skill level
Review: I have read Core servlets and jsp, and I use it extensively. It is one of the best books on any information systems related topic that I have read, and I have recommended it to several of my colleagues, I've even purchased several copies for them. It is a great reference on JDBC, HTTP, and of course most of what you need to know about jsp and servlets. There are some real gems included on how to return gif images or excel spreadsheeets, and how to use an applet as a front end. Don't be intimidated if you are a beginner, either. There are simple examples that anyone with the desire to learn could use.

Summary: The best book for beginners
Review: I was just staring with Servlets and JSP and wanted something to help me learn something quickly without compromising on the details. Buying this book made my objective very simple. All the examples are very easy to follow and to implement. It successfully combines both Servlets and JSP into one nice compilation - which was again a great help. I would recommend this book to one and all.

Summary: Starts you from scratch and takes you as far as you want
Review: This book made learning Servlets and JSP's very fun. It started from scratch but went as far as you wanted to go. I specially like the examples which are simple and to the point. Unlike other tutorial books where the examples get longer and more complicated as you progress through the book, Marty's examples are as lean as possible to get to the point instead of showing off with complex examples that are confusing. These small and to the point examples make it easy to pick any chapter and go through it without too much reliance on previous chapters.

His language is very simple to read and I like the way he points out the special cases for servers and other tools and how they behaved saving the reader countless hours trying to debug something that is already a known fact/bug. I've been able to go through chapter by chapter so far on my own computer using freeware tools and experience the Servlets and JSP as quickly as I've been reading the book. I highly recommend it. I have many books on the topic of Java and find Marty's two books: Core Web Programming and Core Servlets and JSP a breath of fresh air. I wish more Java books were written this way.

Summary: the most comfortable way to jsp/servlets
Review: You find most of the information contained in this book in the internet as well - but on several different pages. Beginning at the www consortium who defines html or http, to many example sites and the official sun ones. It's hard work to find all you need in the right order - do yourself a favor and buy this book. It's all in it! You will get along much faster and with less energy. Despite you could do it without the book for sure, I wouldn't.

When programming servlets/jsp, you normally loose much time with non-servlet/jsp stuff like "what's the html form syntax again?", java classpath, http protocol, http header, http error codes, general java, other html syntax... the author has packed it all in as well. So you can say - if it's not your first time to java in general - you can stick to this one book and the internet.

The Sun Reference of all java methods is very helpful when you look for one method, but when you want to do something that needs several methods in a row, you don't even know for which ones to look in the reference. Then the only way for me still seems to be is downloading examples, look find out which method names are used, then go to the java Reference and look for these methods. This is a very time consuming thing which you have to do fewer times when buying this book, due to the included examples and explanation of how to solve general problems like password protection, database, web-connection, counter and so on...
