Rating: Summary: For Beginners Only Review: I bought this book thinking it could have some useful scripts for my job (I develop ASP based websites). Boy was I wrong. If you didn't know how to achieve every single thing in this book within your first week or two of learning ASP, then you probably shouldn't be doing ASP anyway. To give credit where credit is due, if you happened to require a specific tool (Basic Postcard tool would stand out as possibly useable) then the book could save you some work. The author is also determined to prove his advanced technical knowledge. Why anyone would implement any of these examples using SQL Server (as is suggested), and not Microsoft Access if beyond me. These are all very basic and do not require the massive cost of ownership associated with SQL Server. He does cater slightly for Access users, although whilst developing a large chapter on Access security, misses the basic point that by putting the database in a folder elsewhere on the server, nobody can get to your data, therefore no real need for security. If you are an absolute beginner this book may be OK, otherwise look at titles like ASP In A Nutshell or the fantastic Professional Active Server Pages 3.0 (which doesn't really require you to be that professional).
Rating: Summary: It Works! Review: This book shows the technical and creative integration of HTML, ASP, VB, SQL, and Access' DB to provide practical internet feedback for site users. Two thumbs up. While I prefer SQL Server 7 over Access, switching the two DBs is a minor code change. For large company employees, the author shows how to beef up its intranet and create a corporate library. As a start-up web company, I'm more intrigued by the chalkboard, web ring, visitor tracking, and survey applications. The OL Store is also very instructive.
Rating: Summary: Good Stuff!! Review: Excellent book with tons of usefull Scripts. I found Buczek's teaching methodology to be excellent. Well done! I allready ordered another title by Buczek - instant ASP Components and hope it is as good as this one!!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Outstanding!!!!! Review: It's very refreshing to see an author finally that shows you step by step what he/she is doing and not overloading you with a bunch of "mumbo jumbo" talk that you don't understand! Bravo Zulu Greg! I've personally bought every book that Greg has written and there's always something new to learn and he has a GREAT way of teaching! Thank you GREG, you're awesome!!!!!
Rating: Summary: A computer book that reads well Review: I've been reading computer books for so long now, I had gotten used to two varieties. Either the book is so technical in nature that it becomes a reference, or it is too directed and you don't make it through the tutorials because they do not apply to your project. Greg Buczek presents quality information and it is completely readable. There are tons of examples that apply directly to what you want to do. You can skip around or go cover to cover, depending on what you need. I've been impressed by the Adobe CIB series, but this sets a new standard. It doesn't hold your hand, but it gives great direction. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: recommended book Review: hi, first sorry for my bad english, im a programmer from israel.this book is very good one but one important thing should be said:this book is not for beginner asp programmers means it does not include almost any explanation about asp syntax, reference, object explanation and so on. this book is for people already know the language and want to expand their understanding of its ability. by differents scripts the author takes you through many daily examples asp can be useful, all scripts are accompanied by good explanations, line by line.i loved this book, it helped me to understand the power of asp. yoni
Rating: Summary: Excellent way to learn ASP scripting Review: When I purchased this book I was fair in ASP, but lacked the ability to put together my knowledge to perform complex or multilevel tasks. By reading through the scripts that seemed most relevant to the kind of work I was doing, I learned a great deal and got an excellent jump on building bigger and better scipts and applications. This book should come with a caution - some of the programing is not what I (or most) would consider efficient or the most effective way to do things. This is relatively easy to overcome if you have a good grasp of ASP and can simply rewrite parts of the code.
Rating: Summary: Not very helpful Review: I ordered this book after reading the glowing reviews. What a disappointment. This may very well be a great book, but I do not typically read a technical book from cover to cover. Rather, I read a chapter or two to get me going, and then rely heavily on the index to pin point topics. I have yet to find a single topic I have been looking for in the index. This is a THICK book, but it only has an eleven page index! I think many ASP programmers would be interested in 'Arrays', the 'Command Object' and 'Stored Procedures' etc, but they are not indexed, so I do not know if they are indeed covered in the book. I guess after slamming a book, I should give a couple of examples of excellent resources: for ASP Database topics, the best book I have found is Beginning ASP Databases. By WROX Press. And for JavaScript ASP -Professional Javascript by WROX Press.
Rating: Summary: All you need to get started Review: I am a VB expert but quite new to ASP. I've tried other books by means of buying or browsing their contents just to get started but I can't find the right information. Until I found this book, then I fully learned ASP and understand its concept. It is full of real-world examples that are ready to use and explore.
Rating: Summary: Very nice book Review: I am a newbie to asp and this book has helped my learn the basics of asp. If your like me and cant learn from a book that puts tons of logic in your head off the start and you learn better through examples then this book is worth its money! It a nice referance book to. (in its own way)
