Rating: Summary: Great servlet book Review: I never knew anything about servlet programming this book just jump started me to write server side programme. One of the best book in servlets. Good examples the authors are thorough in every aspect. Its my Bible for Servlet and JSP programming.
Rating: Summary: Easily the best computer book I've read. Review: This book is outstanding. I heard the hype, didn't trust it, bought the book anyway, and came away highly impressed. Not for the beginning Java programmer (though nonetheless accessible), this book is very well-written and deals with its topic thoroughly. You really don't need much else besides this book and the JSDK to begin writing useful servlets.
Rating: Summary: Superb! Review: O'Reily has done it again. Coming from a Java background, I was able to jump straight to the pages I needed (and in some cases, "lift" the source code from examples). We have 2 copies between 5 servlet developers, we're thinking of getting a copy each!.
Rating: Summary: This book is all you need to get started writing Servlets Review: I can't believe there were a couple people who reviewed this book low. This is the best book I've seen for getting started. It will take you a long way. For beginners a a sample guestbook utility would have been nice but this book does cover a lot of material. Some of it may even get a little too in depth for people just wanting to write basic servlets. All in all I was very pleased with this book as I bought it at a time where there wasn't much out there on servlets and it got me going. I still don't see a lot of literature out there on the subject so if you want to write servlets this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: SIMPLY THE BEST Review: If anyone gives this <5 stars, well ! they should be the ones who created the servlets themselves. This book is top-of-the-line, beautifully written and so effective for practical use.
Rating: Summary: Good for beginners... Review: The book is good to get started in programming Java Servlets. The author should have give more attention to the complex issue of multithreads since it is not covered very well.
Rating: Summary: Lacks real world examples Review: This book is well written and successfully teaches the basics of Servlet programming. However, when it comes to designing serious industrial application architectures using servlets, your still very much on your own.
Rating: Summary: Very good book for both intro and advanced servlet writers Review: This book is really good at introducing servlets and then graduating the user to more advance uses such as JDBC, RMI, and applet to servlet communication. Unlike other books that spend chapters showing you how to configure your web server or servlet engine, this book give real-practical examples. The idea that you can write a servlet that can in effect extend your web server to an application server is something I never thought of -- I'm glad the author did! I only know of three servlet books (Moss and Callaway are the others) on the market and of those this is the one to buy.
Rating: Summary: it's bad Review: i didn't like i
