Summary: Great first web book
Review: I enjoyed the exercises and layout of the book. For someone who never did any web development this book is great.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent book for any Dreamweaver user!
Review: I finished this book in less than a week, I couldn't stop reding. Every thing that I didnt know about Dreamweaver is on this book! Every single exercice and page is illustraded specially for MAC users, but covers Windows too. I learn a lot from this book that any other Dreamweaver book that I had. I will give the others zero stars, but this one deffinetly will get five stars.

Summary: Good book, but could use more exercises
Review: I got a lot out of this book. It's comprehensive, easy to understand, and the authors do a good job accommodating both Windows and Mac users.

The one drawback I had with it is that it would have been nice to have exercises/files at the end of each chapter (or possibly a mini-project at the end of every few chapters) to reinforce what was covered. Don't get me wrong, the exercises that are provided while working through each chapter are great in introducing the learning objectives, but it's difficult to know if you understand it when a recipe type format of "click here/select this" is given that walks you through it. For example, by the end of Chapter 5 the authors could provide a few basic "completed" web pages along with the corresponding files that were used to create them. The reader could then attempt to re-create the pages from scratch by using the files with the goal of ending up with a similar page. Having taught for 5 years I think these types of open-ended exercises are important for reinforcing the learning process. Otherwise it's difficult to gauge if the reader understands the objectives of each chapter.

Summary: Making Sense of Dreamweaver
Review: I had been waiting several weeks for this book to arrive on the shelf. It's finally arrived and I'm not disappointed in the least. The HOT series includes easy to follow exercises and the explaination as to why you're doing what you're doing. Dreamweaver is a powerful program for WYSIWYG web design. Lynda Weinman makes understanding its features very easy. Can't wait for the next book in the series!

Summary: Great book for beginners
Review: I had no idea how to use Dreamweaver when I first opened this book. It took me ten days to finish it cover to cover, and I did a little bit at a time. I found that it started from the ground up, which was great for me because I had no background in using Dreamweaver whatsoever. I think this book for beginners who have no idea what they are doing. The language of the book flows nicely as if I was taking the class that Lynda and Garo teach.

I don't think this book is for people with some Dreamweaver experience. It does not go into anything too complex, and it is very easy to read.

It holds you by the hand chapter through chapter. Also, they have these little movies on CD that show you how to do certain exercises, which I liked very much.

I have no complaints. I hope this helped you.

Summary: Best way to learn Dreamweaver. Simply excellent!
Review: I have always wanted to learn Dreamweaver, but found the interface rather intimidating. Many people have told me that the learning curve is steep. I bought a couple of books on Dreamweaver, but gave up before reading halfway. Recently, I found this excellent Dreamweaver book by Lynda Weinman and Garo Green. The words "Hands-On Training" on the bookcover caught my eyes. I strongly believe in "learning by doing", and this book lives up to its reputation. As I read and practised along, I found myself picking up the skills very fast. I assure you that this is not just another dry, highly theoretical computer reference book. You will get a lot of fun actually trying out the different functions, and seeing the effects immediately. I strongly recommend this book to those with little or no background knowledge in Dreamweaver. I have so much faith in the authors that I plan to get another of their books soon.

Summary: Excellent Learning Tool
Review: I must say that Lynda is, hands down, the best instructor I've ever come across on the printed page. I've been using Dreamweaver for over two years and I learned so much from this book. The chapters and exercises were so concise, so ordered and really a lot of fun. I recommend this book whole-heartedly!

Summary: Good starting book for Dreamweaver designers, but that's it!
Review: I took a look at this book, at the request of one of my students, to determine whether or not this was a good book for a new web designer.

After looking through this book I feel you get exactly what the title says, a book on how to use Dreamweaver 3, that's it. If you are a new web designer and you are absolutely sure you will be using Dreamweaver 3.0, then buy this book. It will teach you what you need to know in order to do basic web design with Dreamweaver.

This book is not a good HTML reference book. If you are looking for a book to teach you HTML, keep looking. Dreamweaver concept is built around designing web pages by typing minimal code. If you want to design web pages without knowing what is happening in the background Dreamweaver and this book are for you.
