Summary: Superb Dreamweaver Learning Tool!
Review: This is a wonderful book for learning Dreamweaver! The organization of the book is logical and well thought out. The authors convey principals simply and efficiently via cool "hands on" exercises. Well done!

Summary: One of the best hands-on-training book ever
Review: This is one of the best hands-on-training book that I have ever come across. It is easy to understand and the author has focused attention on the student (who DO NOT KNOW Dreamweaver). One of the things I liked best is the way the author repeatedly reminds you of how to use a particular task or function. Lot of times the author just assumes that the student should know that by now and continues the chapter as if we are experts already. The author has made it simple, interesting and exciting. I finished the book in 8 days. Many times these kind of books which are supposed to be hands-on-training, ends up not so hands-on-training; where we get lost or the author assumes most of the time that we know it all. But here is a book where the author really takes your hand and walks you thru it step by step, reminding you every now and then what you have learned in the previous steps...just in case you forgot. Very well done! If you are like me (very new to web design), this is the book for you. My son gave it to me as a gift. It helped me to kick start my venture in the web design world. Thanks to him.

Summary: The most enjoyable Hands-on book I have ever read
Review: This is probably one of the best computer books I have ever read. I have read a lot of different books on graphics applications, web design applications, programming, and general computer subjects, and this is one of the tops on my list. I am not always sure how truthful these mini reviews are. I have been burned in the past by author's friends flooding this area with glowing reviews, only to find out that the book stunk. I recently got burned by an excellent review of a book, only to find out that the author wrote the entire review, and of course in their minds this book was 5 stars. But this book is truly a 5 star book. ALL the examples are easy to follow and are ALL 100% accurate. The author goes to great extremes to spell out, several times if necessary, how to perform the tasks. They don't take anything for granted. All Exercises have an unmodified file and also the finished product so you can see where you are going. The part I liked best was that just about every exercise would relate to something that you would do in the real world. In a lot of books they show you how to do something that doesn't relate to anything you would ever be doing. The book is a beginner to intermediate, so if you are already a Dreamweaver Wizard, you had better look elsewhere. But if you are trying to learn Dreamweaver, and want to enjoy yourself in the process, I highly recommend this book.

Summary: Perfect primer for beginners and intermediate users!
Review: This is the 4th - and thus far the best - Dreamweaver book I've read. It's large enough to be very comprehensive, but is also very friendly and conversational in tone (without resorting to corny humor, as with most "Dummies" books).

A CD-ROM is included with all the exercise files you need plus demo versions of the programs you'll be using. Each chapter builds upon skills learned in previous chapters. In fact, most of the exercises are used repeatedly, with each chapter having you perform more and more advanced functions with them. This makes learning quicker, as you can see how you are adding various features to the same web site, rather than starting with a completely new and unfamiliar site for each exercise.

I was eager to learn more than the book has to offer on some occasions, as with Timelines, where I wanted to know how to make a timeline animation follow a curved line rather than a straight line, or how to make a Layer's position relative to other objects on the page, rather than relative to the browser's borders (X and Y coordinates), neither concept of which the book discusses. These are advanced capabilities than I can always find in more advanced books.

One caveat: be sure to check the author's web site for updated files and/or corrections to errors in the book, which are thankfully few.

This is an excellent book for the beginner, and even if you've used Dreamweaver for a little while you'll undoubtedly pick up some new skills. Great value for the money and highly recommended!

Summary: Learn Dreamweaver in a day!!! =)
Review: This is the perfect book for the beginner in web design or if you just want to do a page for yourself! Its easy to follow and understand, though, on the other hand, the examples are not TOO simple--in fact they provide a pretty in-depth look at Dreamweaver's finest features. It has great tips and shortcuts for the expert user too. You don't have to be HTML savvy (or know it at all ^_~) to get started with Dreamweaver and this is the book to guide you through it. Thanks Lynda!!! You're my hero!

Summary: Best software tutorial I've ever read.
Review: This will be the benchmark by which I compare all other software tutorials. I first bought the Dreamweaver 3 Bible and struggled with it for about a week. It is a very in-depth reference work, and I'll keep it for that purpose, but it's not a beginner's tutorial. This one is. Most software books that I've bought with CD-ROM's should have left them out because you can usually download the most up to date demos from the web. But this book's CD has over 100M of very good Quicktime movies, and tutorial files for every chapter. I hope they write another book like this for Fireworks 3.

Summary: I learned Dreamweaver all from this book
Review: To tell you the truth, I had no clue how to use Dreamweaver when I first installed the software until I purchase this book. I have build websites starting off with using the NOTEBPAD friend. So I knew some HTML codes already. But, this book helped me a lot in understanding what exactly Dreamweaver does. I love the exercises that she had to offer in every chapter. This book gave illustrations and exercises to help you understand Dreamweaver easier. I like how she made it easy to learn and understand at the same time. It was not boring at all compared to other books that only has texts. I would recommend this book to anybody because it helped me a lot in understanding Dreamweaver!

Summary: The best I could find.
Review: While recently searching for a good textbook to use in the practicum class I'm teaching this Spring at American University, I looked through almost all of current offerings on the market and finally decided on using Dreamweaver 3 Hands-on-Training.

The book offers a logical trek through the essentials of using Dreamweaver for web design. I particularly enjoyed its lengthy discussion of the site manager and how it is central to using Dreamweaver effectively (something I found lacking in most other books.) The structure of the book happened to coincide with what I believe is the best route to take when learning Dreamweaver and web design issues and fit in perfectly with the way I had planned my course. I've actually gone through the book, chapter-by-chapter and worked out all the examples and exercises and everything works as it should. Perhaps at times the instructions are overly repetitive but this is something that the more advanced students can skip over while those struggling with the material will no doubt appreciate.

I have read in other reviews that the book has at times been deemed "for beginners". I would have to disagree and say rather that designers of all levels have something to gain from this book. I'm sure that web designers working with version 2.0 of Dreamweaver will love it for the version 3.0 tips alone. I, for one, found out that I wasn't making use of the History function as well as the custom commands -- two things that have helped to speed up my development time enormously.

Highly recommended!
