Rating: Summary: Wrong! Review: Why would you publish a book when the details are all wrong? Didn't anyone edit this thing? He should have read the Resource Kits. Pity.
Rating: Summary: Good read only if you are new to NT & networking Review: This book is a very good read if you are new to the NT environment and if you require a basic understanding of the topic. But it is certainly not a book written for your average techie. Do not get me wrong this is a very well written book but I would certainly include few more sections in there and cut out some of the basic stuff. There are also sections from NT 3.51 like the DNS section which don't do the author's efforts justice.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: This is one of the best books i have come across. Its good for beginners as well as experienced administrators. I used this book as an reference for my NT server exam but it covers a lot more than you need for the exam. Only shortcoming... Its a big book not easy to carry around
Rating: Summary: Its the best NT book you can get Review: I did read a couple of other NT books before this one but this one if from far the best. If your just starting with NT this book is perfect and it is also a great reference book. Each time I have a small problem I'm sure to find the answer in this book.
Rating: Summary: Good NT 4.0 book but not if you want the MCSE Syllabus Review: The style of the book is excellent, explaining complex theory in a simple way (especially cf the Workstation Resource Kit). The How To's in the book are also invaluable. If you are looking for THE guide to NT 4.0 Server this is the book. If you are looking to pass MCSE exams, you may need another book. Don't let this put you off though.
Rating: Summary: The most comprehensive NT book I've found.. Review: Can't say enough great things about this book. Anytime I get an NT question from a co-worker, the answer to the question is in this book. People going for their MCPs and MCSEs may want to grab an Exam Cram or something, but as far as the day-to-day NT Administrator's duties go, this book is the Alpha and the Omega.
Rating: Summary: Good boat anchor, great house-leveler. Review: Let me start by saying that Minasi's irreverent writing style is very cutsie and entertaining, and he does have a gift for taking the driest materials and making them at least not life-threateningly boring. The thing is, this book is just like every other tome (1600+ pages?!? Please!) on the market with absolutely nothing new, different or interesting about it to distinguish in technically from its 50+ competitors. But then, perhaps that's too much to ask. The materials/topics covered by this monster are standard and uninspiring, the descriptions are all high-level and what detail there is, is wildly inaccurate. Reading through the book, one is forced to ask if the the writer has any real-world (that is, non-test-lab) experience with the product at all. The chatty examples of how the technology works, while fun to read, are useless when trying to troubleshoot real-world problems. Readers actually interested in how the technology works (instead of collecting amusing segues) would do better investing in the Resource Kits.
Rating: Summary: Good study and knowledge source. Lousy CD. Review: I bought this largely on Amazon recommendations as part of my preparation for the MCSE exam series. It's a good read, but difficult to use as a reference to figure out why on earth the answer to a sample exam question was (a), not (b). I hoped the CD would overcome some of the failures of the index, but it's so cumbersome to use that it's almost useless. If they would provide an index-only function which you could store on your hard drive, and use the book for text, it would be a truly useful resource. I also get the feeling that Mark got paid by the word, or perhaps by the pound, but all in all I would recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Great NT Book! Review: I just took the MCSE NT Server test after reading this book and passed it with a 891. I consider this book a great real world source for information. As for the test, you will need at least one more source, because the book was written for a production environment, not for the test. Get this book if it's the only one you can get!
Rating: Summary: Not only great information, but an enjoyable read! Review: Mr. Minasi as written a wonderfully informative book that doesn't make you feel like a dullard for buying it. The little jokes hear and there thouroughly liven up the reading. I bought a second copy to have one at home and at work.
