Summary: Franken tips the (supposed) "balance" to leftist media
Review: Rush Limbaugh is certainly a talented and articulate radio host/public speaker, who did have a message back in '87-'88: the media IS slanted to the far-left, much truth gets lost, and... HERE I AM!!! But very soon I found that his daily tidal wave of liberal-directed rants and raves often contained some truly absurd, albeit eloquent contradictions - Al has written an entire book on this perception. His description of Rush's particularly unsubtle [presmumeably unpaid] "plug" for his own merchandise is hilarious!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Politically charged fun.
Review: Telling it like it is, Al Franken provides us with wonderful insights into his political wit and all out rants of Rush Limbaugh's weight and political sayings.

Al does it all here. From true stories, to visuals, to fake Vietnam chronicles, to jokes, to an imaginary death of his research assistant, he presents his views in a hilarious and gripping manner.

It's sometimes smart, sometimes random, rarely vicious, but always funny. Also, it's a great, quick read. The language is fluid and the writing style is conversational. It's like stand-up comedy mixed with CNN Crossfire.

... , I still recommend this.

Summary: Good commentary
Review: It's finally great to hear a book that brings out the truth of the right wing so well. The show book shows the inacurancies or plan lies that those to right like to say like Rush Limbaugh and Phil Grahm. The book can be harsh and intentially funny which is the point.

Summary: Franken is the Big Fat Idiot and is not to be trusted.
Review: Commmenting on my own listening talents on Mr. Limbaugh's Radio program. Rush is a Paragon of common sense and when he's at his true best is when he parodies Clinton, Gore, the Clinton-Gore administraation, The feminists and the liberal establishment. Coming from a conservative background I find it a joy to listen to the Rush Tri-hours daily as I go along with my entrepreneurial work at the office.

Summary: Rightwingers'll hate this book-even more reason to read it
Review: We always knew Rush was an idiot, what a joy to read the proof! Right wing followers with an ounce of gray matter should be embarrased to have Limbaugh as their mouthpiece. Dittoheads who are too slow to form an opinion by themselves need to get their facts from sources without a political agenda and arrive at their own conclusions.

Summary: Hey...It's funny, so who cares about the leftist rants?
Review: As a diehard conservative, I am not supposed to like this book. I am also supposed to be a raving dittohead, horrified at any implication that perhaps Rush Limbaugh is not the best representative for my idealogy. However, as a closer follower of George Will than Mr. Limbaugh, I still hold the capacity to be objective about things--and this book, despite its liberalism, is genuinely funny, and the dirty tricks employed by Franken to embarrass Rush are very clever. Only four stars because, come on, I still have my principles.

Summary: A brilliant, funny look at life and politics.
Review: I have to admit, even typing the title, "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot", into the search box to write this review was a moment of joy. I suppose, being a liberal Democrat, I'm a bit biased towards this book. I've always loved Al Franken's humor, especially during his work in the 1996 campaign on Comedy Central. That said, Mr. Franken makes some excellent points in this book, and reveals just how hypocritical many conservatives (and liberals, to be fair) are -- the ones who preach family values are on their second and third marriage, for example. One of his key points is what says it best -- that much of what he considers his success in his life is his wonderful family, rather than neglecting it for success in other areas.

One has to be careful, though, when reading this book. The satire is often subtle, and it's all too easy to get upset over something that he meant as a joke or to make a point -- for example, the suffering and death of Geoff, the research assistant. At times, even I wasn't sure if he was kidding, although logic told me it must be so.

Anyway, this is a brilliant satire on the modern world, and should be able to be enjoyed by both liberal and conservative -- so long as you can look between the constant "fat Rush" jokes. Nothing is safe, from Rush to Reagan, from trickle-down economics to Social Security. Franken handles it all with a light-hearted manner while still addressing and answering to serious subjects.

Summary: Funny but far to leftist
Review: Al Franken and Rush Limbaugh deserve each other much in the same way Bill Clinton and Kenneth Starr deserve each other. Both are idiots in some way. The book is fairly funny, but just too darn liberal in its approach. Franken believes in large government taking care of all problems, big taxes to punish productive people, handouts to those that don't want to work and he would advocate for homosexuality to be portrayed positively in every classroom. Thats great liberal thinking but too liberal for most Americans to swallow. So read the book for the humor but don't get caught up in his nonsensical political point of view. Rush has some faults, but Franken able to match most of those with equal or greater idiocy.

Summary: Funny, Entertaining and Made Me Realize Error of My Ways
Review: This is an excellent book by Al Franken, one of the funniest men in America. I couldn't stop laughing. Every single chapter was entertaining. Before buying this book, I used to be a conservative Republican. But not anymore. This book caused me to question my political views while making me laugh out loud at the same time. Now I'm a diehard Democrat. Thanks for making me see the light Al.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Uneven, but overall laugh out loud funny
Review: Not all of Franken's vignettes work. Some go on much too long without a point or sufficient punchline. There's also some gratuitous use of profanity that cancels this out as a book for all ages. And yes Franken does make much too much of Limbaugh's obesity, but Dittoheads should not be so squeamish or sanctimonious as they seem to be on this site; after all Limbaugh, at least early in his notoriety, thought nothing of making fun of the physical and personal irregularities of his opponents (his nasty remarks about Chelsea Clinton were particularly unfortunate; she's grown up to be a lovely young woman, far outclassing both her parents, and as a Southerner, I never appreciated his mocking of Sen. Sasser of Tennessee).

But when he's on target, Franken is laugh out loud funny, and he exquistely targets and hits the hypocrisies of the Republican Right. Especially good is the scenario featuring Gingrich, Gramm, Quayle,Limbaugh, of course, et al (all of who avoided service in the Vietnam War) as they are being led on a expedition through Vietnam by Ollie North. Now that's hilarious. Also good is Franken's account of his coverage of the Christian Coalition convention, where the true oddity of Pat Robertson is clearly revealed.

As a conservative, I'm often at odds with Franken's ideological assumptions. As a Democrat, though, I delight in his skewering of the enemy.
