Rating: Summary: GET THIS BOOK! Review: I almost did not purchase this book because of a couple of negative reviews I read, but I sure am glad that I did. I did not find any of the bad things said to be true. In fact, this book, and the sequel you can order from inside, were so helpful and so insightful. The author seemed to know exactly what I was going through and what to say to answer my questions. And that is not all - he also gives an e-mail address and website url and says that anyone can contact him with more questions if they like free of charge - and he promises to answer you personally. I took advantage of that several times and each time he answered me in great detail. I wish there were 6 stars to give.
Rating: Summary: An Excellent Book - Comforting, Informative and Heartwarming Review: Cold Noses is an excellent book that anyone who owns or has owned a pet will appreciate and enjoy reading. It offers comforting words for those who have lost a pet from an author who undoubtedly cares for animals himself. It also provides logical answers to the question of where animals go when they pass on. But, most of all, the book is full of heartwarming stories of all different types of animals - dogs, cats, horses, even bears. There are stories that make you want to laugh and some that make you want to cry, but they all make you love your animals even more. I highly recommend this book as a wonderful addition to any library.
Rating: Summary: SUPERFICIAL AND SUBJECTIVE, VERY DISAPPOINTING Review: ... I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED in this book. I just received from amazon three books on this subject. I picked up this one first because it had over 70 positive reviews. But I don't think I've been this disappointed in a book in ages. It was much more like reading someone's ramblings in a private journal than anything like a clear exposition. If you happen to agree already with Kurz's interpretations, and can tolerate rambling, repetition, and subjectivity, you may find something in this book comforting. But if you're like me and you can't be convinced unless an argument uses at least some objectivity and interaction with other views (both contrary and supporting), you'll probably, like me, be sorely disappointed. Kurz speaks of his "research," but I never felt I was getting more than his musings and ramblings. He writes from a Christian and biblical perspective, but by the end of the book I was starving for more interaction with the Bible. He even says at one point, "let me assure you that I am not going to load you down with a lot of scripture" (p. 94). But that was exactly what I was looking for! The one point I AM going to hold on to from this book is that I want to believe, as Kurz does, that God is a God of the living and would never create any being only to destroy it in the end. But biblically that is far from clear. Maybe one of these other two books will give me some solidly researched and thought-through biblical perspectives (if not concrete answers). But I found virtually nothing in Kurz's book to help convince me. His thinking was just too subjective and superficial, and poorly written.
Rating: Summary: Disappointment Review: Having lost several dear pets, and knowing the pain, I was intrigued by the title "Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates", and felt that having been written by a minister and long-time student of the Bible, it should be a good bet. I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED in the writing style (or lack of it). It was more of a rambling through only a VERY FEW legitimate points. Only 3-4 references to actual scripture concerning animals in the entire book, and lame interpretations of these at that. MOST paragraphs were apologies for what he was going to write about next, or what he just got done writing about. There was at least one entire page where ONLY apologies for the past or next idea were presented! How can a book addressing the possiblity of life after death for animals contain self-referencing "I" in so many paragraphs!!!
Rating: Summary: Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates Review: Excellent and comforting book written by a very sincere, warm and very caring person. I was heartbroken, so very, very sad when my dog Rambo passed away tragically. There was no one who understood my pain and sorrow until I read Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates. I realized reading this book I would see my beloved dog again! Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates, Cold Noses II examinging more Evidence, both by this author will help to heal your heart and know God loves you and your pet. I look forward to ANY book Gary writes because I know it is his calling to help and comfort all who have lost their beloved pets. There are no words that can express my heartfelt appreciation for his talent and ability to convey to the reader he understands, and cares, and knows how one feels when they lose someone they love so very much. A must read for all.
Rating: Summary: Finally! A voice of comfort and assurance! Review: Thank you, Gary! I actually read this book out of curiosity. Regardless of what anyone ever said to me about animals NOT being in "heaven", I refused to believe them, even as a very small child. After spending nearly six decades with countless beloved animals, no one can convince me otherwise. With the exception of a precious mother's love, animals are the purest givers of "unconditional" love, acceptance, and unbridled devotion. How could a loving, all-knowing god create such wonderous creatures that give so much, that teach us so much, that literally enrich our lives, to allow them to simply go to dust--never to be seen again? Yes, they have souls! And, like us, their souls, or "spirits" live forever. One day at the beautiful place we animal-lovers know as the "Rainbow Bridge", we will be reunited with them--never to be separated again! Although this book is written from a Christian perspective, it will help to comfort you no matter what your faith may be. I enjoyed it and recommend it.
Rating: Summary: I thank God for this book Gary has written! Review: I lost my beloved Stormie very unexpectedly and quickly to Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia. My heart was broken and my life was empty as Stormie and I weathered many storms together. Reading this book gave me the scriptural assurance that I will meet Stormie again after my time on this earth is finished. I am so grateful for this book and for Gary's insight as well as compassion for those of us who love animals for who they are: gentle creatures created by God for our enjoyment. I am SO EXCITED that Stormie is just on the other side waiting for me! Thanks Gary for a book well written and one I go back to over and over again. When there was no one who could help me, this book gave me hope and helped me go on.
Rating: Summary: This Book Made Life Bearable Again Review: After I suddenly lost my sweet cat, Oscar, last Deptember, I was devastated to the point of being physically ill. My cats are not just "pets" to me, but they are my family members, my Kids.. Just because they have fur and walk on 4 legs doesnt mean that I love them any less than I would love them if they were human, and the loss of Oscar was without a doubt one of the most devastating experiences in my life. I didnt know how I was going to get up and get going the next day; if not for having 8 other cats to take care of, I dont think I could have done it. I was in a pet loss support chat room, and I mentioned the topic about where our beloved animals go after they die, and a very kind lady told me about Garys book and website. ( I dont remember that ladys name, but I THANK GOD for her.. ) I immediately visited the website and ordered the book, and Gary contacted me right away via email; he was so kind, so caring, so helpful.. so willing to answer questions.. it was a great comfort to me. I got the book and read it cover to cover, and although nothing will ever completely take away the pain of losing my precious Oscar, I did find great comfort in the fact that although he is not physically with me, his spirit and soul DOES live on, and he sits in Heaven with all of the others who have gone before him, and that I WILL be reunited with him again some day. This book is a MUST for anyone who has ever been told that our beloved animals dont go to Heaven.. they most certainly do. this book simply provides proof of what we already knew deep in our hearts and souls, which is that God is loving and he cares for our animals and provides an eternal place for them where they are waiting until the day until we can be reunited with them. Gary has BEEN there.. he REALLY, HONESTLY and TRULY understands what it is like to lose a furry family member, and he is so full of tender, gentle compassion.. Thank You again, Gary, for this wonderful book. To my Oscar, save a place for me until I get there. Connie in Indiana
Rating: Summary: CONVINCING AND REASSURING!! Review: After losing my beloved Bear, I was destroyed. Even though being a Christian, I was unsure of what scripture says about our animal friends and their afterlife. I now have no reservations that I will be reunited with my treasured friend. Thank you Gary Kutz, for taking the time to assure us animal lovers that we will be reunited with our pets. I only now grieve his absence, not his whereabouts.
Rating: Summary: Cold Noses offers hope, insight and inspiration! Review: Gary Kurz has done a beautiful, insightful sharing of ideas in Cold Noses At The Pearly Gates, and that sharing brings comfort to every parent who has experienced the loss of a furry child! By use of scripture, the author brings to light how important all of God's creatures are to Him, and the certainty that they will join humankind in heaven. Readers well versed in scripture will still be surprised and delighted at the fresh outlook this book supplies! Interspersed with endearingly humorous anecdotes about the author's pets and other animal friends he has known, the book is entertaining as well as enlightening. For anyone who has grieved over the loss of a pet, comforted a friend who has lost a pet, or knows that the death of a pet is inevitable, it is a must read, and a blessing.
