Rating: Summary: My Help In Time Of Need Review: "Cold Noses At The Pearly Gates" is an excellent book. From this book I learned that when my furry pet child passed on,he went to heaven.I learned that God has created all things and that everything He created, He considered it very good, and takes care of all His creation. I learned how important creatures really are in God's eyes. This book also deals with how animals communicate and the importance of life.I learned that we will see our pets again if we understand God's plan for mankind, which is explained in this great book. There is also a section to help you when you're ready to adopt another pet, and some humorous stories to help you in your grief. As I read this book, it was as though, someone else had walked this path that I was walking--the path of hurt, emptiness and lonliness from losing your beloved furry pet child. The one thing I took refuge in was the fact that there were Bible verses to go along with what was said, and as I looked up the verses myself, I found them to be in context and in truth. Cold Noses At The Pearly Gates is now an added collection of the many different books in my library. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is searching for answers about pet loss and is also looking for easy reading material with sound Biblical Scripture verses.
Rating: Summary: COLD NOSES WARM YOUR HEART Review: THIS BOOK IS SUCH A BLESSING. IT HAS HELPED TO ANSWER ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS I HAVE HAD SINCE I WAS A CHILD. THE BOOK IS EASY TO READ AND FULL OF TRUTHFUL AND SINCERE INFORMATION. THE COMPASSION OF THE AUTHOR IS EVIDENT. I COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN. EVERYONE WHO LOVES ANIMALS SHOULD READ THIS.
Rating: Summary: STUNNED Review: I am stunned by some of the reviews that I have read on this book..."disappointed", "too christian". I bought this book because it was christian - I mean what does "Pearly Gates" indicate to someone anyway? I am not very religious, or at least I wasn't. I just wanted to get some answers about what lies beyond. At first my concern was for Josh, my dog, but then I started thinking about myself. I get so tired of the windbags on television who claim they can talk to people on the other side, or who can read the stars or whatever. This book bases itself on the Bible. As I said, I wasn't religious, but there is just something about that book that has authority, a power that you cannot see, but can feel. So I ordered this book and it made me feel a peace. That is the only way I can describe it - a peace. It is just a kind-hearted, heart-felt outreach from someone who doesn't want you to care about how much he knows, but wants you to know how much he cares. I cannot see how anyone, even if they detest the Bible, could not find this book a help in their time of need. It certainly caught me by surprise. I was expecting some "feel good" zenny stuff - but this book made me think. At times I felt I was online with the author and he was typing this tuff to me personally - like he knew what I needed to hear. It was eerie, but, even though I haven't figured it all out yet, I gained a lot of good from reading this book. I plan to e-mail him (he provides an e-mail address in the book) and I will let everyone know what comes of that in another review.
Rating: Summary: So great a consolation! Review: Mr. Kurz's book really got me over a rough time when my Spike passed on at almost 20 years of age. A friend recommended his website to me and after recognizing his empathy, I ordered his book. I was unable to sleep, could not think of anything else and although I read the first 70 pages through my tears, I can only say that one more time God sent what I needed into my life. I have passed it on to a friend who needed support and so am buying another. I am elated to hear that there is a Noses II out there somewhere!
Rating: Summary: Book I - "Excellent" to be followed by Book II - "Superb" Review: Cold Noses At The Pearly Gates is a heart-touching book that delivers comfort and hope to all who love animals and have experienced loss. This loss not only includes a personal loss of a precious pet but losses that we may tend to not think about. We must remember those who dedicate their lives to saving animals ..... the local vet and staff we all rely on - those who work at animal shelters - sanctuaries - zoos - animal life reservations ..... those who employ "service animals" and let us not forget the "search and rescue" people who are ever ready to go out on call with their companions. They all too suffer deep loss. The heartache of losing a precious pet is indeed devastating. The pain and tears it brings to your inner being is so very crushing to your human heart and even more so to your spirit. It seems like nothing can or will ever take away the pain - no one person can ease the deep felt ache so very deep within. Cold Noses delivers comfort to your heart and hope to your spirit. As you read through the book you learn that animals do have an afterlife as well as their earthly parents - their caretakers do - for we are all creatures come from God. Sometimes when reading a book one will take notice to a few typos and maybe even a few grammatical errors. This is simply human error of which all of humanity is guilty of. The reader should never allow a few mispelled - misprinted words detract from the heart of a book. Nor should the fact of a book being self-published or otherwise detract from the quality of the message contained within. The "essence" of Cold Noses is in the message it imprints upon your heart. That message is simply love. Yes - the book brings comfort and hope but alongside this is the most important ingredient interwoven from beginning to end ..... Love. A tiny Chihuahua is the "spark" at the very core of Cold Noses. Her name is "PEBBLES". Her passing on was an untimely one - one that I think most of us can identify with. I am sure her daddy would love to have her at his feet today - but sometimes things are not meant to be as we would like them to be. Pebbles was called home to be with her Creator. The Lord used her untimely death to bring about the fruition of Cold Noses. To make her untimely passing on anything other than this is a direct insult first to her Creator then second to her daddy - the author. Without Pebbles there would be no Cold Noses book that has indeed brought much comfort and hope to many people. It is because of such love that one can know there is an afterlife for ALL living creatures. I strongly recommend in addition to the first book the sequel "Cold Noses ll Examining More Evidence.". Book ll is an essential tool in learning and understanding just how and why animals do continue to live on after death. In no other book outside of the Bible is there such an abundance of proof that they do indeed live on. An added plus for the reader is that they will find right there in the book so many verses direct from the Bible - one does not have to stop and take time to search them all out. When something is strictly the opinion of the author - he clearly makes it known. Book ll is definitely a superb follow up where book one leaves off. It certainly stands out as being the first Scripturally Based book on animal afterlife. It more than compliments the first book as it brings to surface a reminder that there is a Creator and we are all His creatures ..... it imparts to every reader a personal message beyond comfort and hope ..... for if one reads and listens with their heart - they will come to know that the pain they feel today - all the tears their heart cries out ..... all their sorrow and grief will not be in vain. To quote a passage from Book ll ..... Job 12:10 "In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind." When one reads the words "the soul of EVERY living thing" ..... one is assured that their precious pet is indeed living with the Creator of ALL. Book ll goes on to give a deeper perspective on animal afterlife as well as other eye-catching topics.
Rating: Summary: Excellent and Comforting! Review: This is an excellent source of comfort and inspiration for the Christian animal and pet lover. The author truly cares about those who are grieving the loss of a beloved pet. Anyone can take heart from Gary's words of reassurance that pets will go to Heaven. I have helped Gary by selling some copies of his book. I don't make much if any profit... That is not my intent. I do it because the book is excellent and because I know how many people it has helped!
Rating: Summary: Very Disappointed!! Review: I was very disappointed with this book. After losing my 18 month old black lab to a tragic accident I was looking for a book that would offer me answers and comfort. As a Christian, I thought this book would be exactly what I needed. I was wrong. This book neither comforted nor answered any questions. Despite being very poorly written, the author spends the first 50 pages discussing his religion and the various theories of creationism. He never really answers any of the pertinent questions he sets out to answer and intead continuously speculates and attempts to bargain with the reader to "not hold it against him" because of his elementary approach. When I finished reading this book, I felt like I had sat through a very long, very tortuous childhood Sunday School lesson. I was left feeling empty and worse than when I had started the book. As an aside, I was also offended by the author's attempt to "save the souls" of his readers. He sets forth the idea that yes your beloved animal is in heaven, but if you are not a Christian believer you will never see him/her again. While I accept that this is his belief, for persons of other religions or no religion at all, this is a horrible injurious statement that only worsens the already broken heart. This book affirms the age old adage, "never judge a book by its cover", or in this case it's title.
Rating: Summary: Beware -- for Christians Only Review: I bought this book because I was devasted by the loss of my cat, and was hoping for comfort. What I got was the opposite -- a preachy religious book obviously for Christians only (of which I'm not). I could have dismissed it as a helpful book for those with the same beliefs, but one part of the book extremely distressed me. The author claims that all pets go to heaven, but if you are not Christian -- you won't go to heaven and therefore you'll never see your pets again. Now thankfully, I'm strong enough to see this for what it is. But it was extremely upsetting to see that in a book that people are buying because they are desperately looking for comfort. To tell non-Christians that they'll never see their pets again when they are already devasted is insensitive and cruel. If you share the authors religious beliefs, you will probably find comfort in this book. If not, you'd probably be best to avoid this book.
Rating: Summary: Too Fundamentalist Christian Review: I solidly applaud Mr. Kurz's efforts at eliciting solid evidence from the Bible for the existence of pet soul, however, for any one who has had any training in Bible Scholarship, this will not work well. Mr. Kurz has based his arguments on literal applications of biblical text. Anyone who belongs to a Mainline Christian denomination and who studies the Bible and books on the Bible will not find this book helpful, other than in intent. I give him 3 stars for his big warm heart and for the effort but he would have done well to go to his local mainline seminary and start some conversations with professors of theology, eschatology, and biblical criticism. To date there is no book that has done this and Heaven knows those of us who minister to educated readers of the Bible, who lose beloved animal companions, desperately need one.
Rating: Summary: Very disappointed Review: I have been in so much pain over the loss of my pet, that when I received this book I couldn't wait to get started reading. I was so disappointed. I might as well picked up the bible. Gary Kurz didn't tell me anything I hadn't heard at Sunday school. I needed comfort not a lesson in religion. I am hoping the other books I have ordered will be of more help. If you were looking for comfort from the loss of your beloved pet don't bother to get this book.
