Rating: Summary: Better Than The Last Review: "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan" is even funnier than the last. This time, Becky Bloomwood is on a vacation with her boyfriend Luke. They end up in New York, Manhattan to be exact, and while Becky wants to spend time with Luke he wants to work. Before she knows it, Becky is on a shopping spree, and this time in Manhattan. This is a hilarious sequel to the funny "Confessions of a Shopaholic". I recommend this book to all.
Rating: Summary: More of Rebecca Bloomwoods Hijinks! Review: If you are looking for a laugh and some fun reading, curl up with 'Shopaholic Takes Manhattan.' We first meet Becky Bloomwood in 'Confessions of a Shopaholic' where she shops, shops, and cannot stop. Since Confessions, by most accounts Becky's life is better, she has a steady boyfriend, Luke; a promising television job as a financial guru; and very little debt. However, Becky finds herself in New York among all the great shops and fashion must- haves and soon is facing debt again. Follow Becky on her exploits through New York were you will be comically in awe. Becky has the ability to win the hearts of many. Join her in her hijinks and discover how she will get herself out of trouble, the only way she knows how...with style! A hilarious account of money management. If you are weary of a sequel, do not be with this one. 'Shopaholic takes Manhattan' is equally as funny as 'Confessions of a Shopaholic.' I cannot wait for Kinsella to deliver another!
Rating: Summary: I Laughed Till I Hurt; Funniest Book I've Ever Read Review: I first fell in love with Becky Bloomwood in "Confessions of A Shopaholic." I have been looking forward to the sequel, but was afraid it might be just a lame extension of a story that had already been told. How wrong I was! This is funnier than the original (a hard act to follow) and Becky continues to be the designer-loving fashion plate who was born to shop. Life looks good for Becky as she spouts financial advice on her tv show, finds romance with Luke, and continues to wrap her bank manager Derek Smeath around her pinkie. But when Mr. Smeath retires from Endwich Bank and Luke announces he wants to make it big in New York, big changes are in store(literally) for Becky. She takes to New York like an angel to heaven, or as she so succintly says, "These are my people. I've found my homeland." Becky has never been happier and the reader is treated to Becky hyperventilating at a Prada sample sale, seeing the Guggenheim in a unique way, winning the attention of employees at Barney's, all while taking a three-hour group walking tour of New York that turns into a thousand dollar shopping day when the tour director invites them to enter a magnificent place of worship and Becky enters Saks rather than St. Patrick's. But an unplanned event sends Becky into a depression and destroys her relationship with Luke. Will Becky recover? How will she muddle through without job or boyfriend? Will the new bank manager succumb to her charms or demand full payment? Is it possible for Becky to live up to her own catch phrase she preaches to her loyal viewers, "Look after your money...and your money will look after you." Every page is filled with Beckyisms, wise words on shopping that are hysterically funny in light of our heroine's "tragic flaw." Will Becky rise from the ashes? Can she win the battle of the charge cards and live a debt-free life? From London to New York, to my mind there's not a more endearing heroine than Becky Bloomwood nor a more compelling contemporary writer of "chick lit" than the witty Sophie Kinsella. Pick up a copy of this book and I guarantee you'll smile every time you see a Denny and George scarf or a Vera Wang dress.
Rating: Summary: Shop for this book! Review: ... If you have ever written a check that bounced, tried to charge something on a card that was over the limit or worried about bills you pretended didn't exist but persist on coming to your doorstep each month, this book will make you giggle in delight. It stars the penniless but charming Rebecca Bloomwood. She's a financial advice guru who is in debt up to her eyeballs but can't pass a store without going in and buying something. I have to say this book had me laughing so hard, I had tears in my eyes and was glad that Rebecca was still struggling with her incessant need to shop after the fairy-tale happy ending of the first novel. (I was worried she'd turn into a nonshopper!!!) Thankfully she's back with more wacky antics. Buy this book or pick it up at the library, it's too funny to miss!
Rating: Summary: Kinsellaholic Review: I absolutely adore this book...someone bought it for me on a whim and I was a bit skeptical about reading it. I did love the cover, not only the way it looked, but the way it felt as well. I was hesitant to read it just based on the cover, so I read the back of the book first. After that, I just plunged right in and this is now my FAVORITE book of ALL time. I'm anxious to read the first book. It seems odd that I've read the second one, and not one written before. I was so intent on reading the first book, that after I finished reading Shopaholic Takes Manhattan, I went to every bookstore I knew in the area. Unfortunately, they were all sold out. I wonder why! THIS IS A FABULOUS BOOK! READ IT! :)
Rating: Summary: Very Funny! Review: It is definitely funnier than the original. I laughed out loud many times. But, Becky seems to be a completely different character in this book. In the first, she lies to cover her problems. Now, she lies just to lie. She also seems to have turned into a dim-witted idiot. After reading Confessions..., I wanted to be Becky Bloomwood. Now, I can't stand her.
Rating: Summary: Fun Review: I couldn't wait to read the follow up to Confessions of a Shopaholic and once again, didn't put it down til I'd finished. Sophie Kinsella's writing is as good as watching a movie. She covers all of the essential details and keeps it light. Complete with extreme situations and improbable solutions, Bex, with her (let's face it -- sad) addicted behavior keep us laughing and on her side because she truly has a heart of gold but still a wicked insight into those who try to stand in her way.
Rating: Summary: Actually 3 1/2 Stars... Review: Sophie Kinsella has a flair for comedic writing. Becky Bloomwood, the main character in the Shopaholic books is at it again. She's successful, has a boyfriend, and manages to repeat the cycle of a true addict. Join Becky on her adventure on a trip to Manhattan. If you enjoy shopping at all, you'll drool at the different places she visits. Becky's antics get her into some Bridget Jones-esque trouble, and the laugh factor is high. You'll sympathize with Becky, you'll want to shake her, you'll cry with her, and you'll be proud of her in this successful sequel. I don't think it's quite as good as the first, however, it's still a great book. There is nothing better than shopping and reading about shopping, at least in my opinion, so this book rates well in my book. If you enjoyed Confessions of A Shopaholic, you'll be certain to enjoy this one!
Rating: Summary: Will Becky Ever Learn?? Review: I asked myself this question through the entire sequel to *Confessions of a Shopaholic*, *Shopaholic Takes Manhattan.* But then I realized that if Becky ever did learn proper financial management, there wouldn't be any more Shopaholic novels! So, I scrapped that idea... In *Shopaholic Takes Manhattan*, Sophie Kinsella sends Becky off to New York City, on a fact-finding mission for a possible move abroad with boyfriend, Luke. They are both traveling for business purposes, Luke with investment bankers and Becky with television producers, but inevitably, Becky finds the lure of sales and Prada too powerful to deny. Day after day, she conceals her purchases from Luke, whose business prospects are sinking. Eventually, a huge blow-out occurs, and Becky's left alone except for her growing debt ratio. We can only hope Becky can find another happy ending! Once again, Kinsella entertains on a level few Brit Chick authors have attained. I can't wait for another installment of Becky Bloomwood, Shopper Extraordinaire!
Rating: Summary: tops the original Review: When I first read the other amazon reviews of this book, many of which said it was better than the first, I had my doubts. I mean, what else was Kinsella going to offer us other than more shopping hijinks? Been there, done that. But my mind changed about a third into the book. This time, Rebecca gets into some dire consequences -- and is all the better for it. Additionally, her love interest, Luke, is a little more fleshed out than he was in the original. We find out that he's work obsessed, and has a VERY distant mother with whom he shares a complicated relationship. Throughout her ups and downs, and her discovery of Sephora, Rebecca remains charming as ever. She's sweet and funny, and Kinsella has a great knack for putting Rebecca in some very akward/humiliating situations that would rival many of Bridget Jone's escapades. Definately a must read if you've read the first, and if you haven't, go ahead and buy this one along with the first -- you'll want to read it. I just can't wait for more "Shopaholic" adventures.
