Rating: Summary: Shopaholic Takes Manhattan Review: When I read Confessions of a Shopoholic i just couldn't put the book down, It's an amazingly funny read. When i discovered that Spohie Kinsella was writing Shopaholic Takes Manhattan i ran off to the bookstore to buy it. This book is honestly funnier than the first. It's incredible how you can get drwan into Becky's world. You litteraly feel everything she goes through. I breezed through the book and when i finished it i wanted more of it. I can't wait for Sophie Kinsella's next book as i'm sure it will be as witty and funny as her last two. This is definately a MUST READ!!!
Rating: Summary: Gives new meaning to the term shopaholic! Review: "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan" is funny, fresh and simply divine. It's hard to find really, really good books and a lot of these types of books simply just do not live up to what's expected. "Shopaholic" does and then some. This is the first book I have LOVED since I read Heartbreaker (Kim Corum). It gives whole new meaning to the term shopaholic. Very engaging and I would higly recommned it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Great fun Review: The long awaited sequel to Confessions of a Shopaholic does not disappoint. As an instant convert to the writing of Sophie Kinsella, this reader was thrilled to see Shopaholic Takes Manhattan hit the bookstores. Becky Bloomwood finally has her life on track. Her TV show is going great, she has her debts paid off and has found love in the bargain. Of course being Becky she has to go shopping to celebrate and the unseen mountain of debt is about to rise again. In an unexpected turn of events, Luke, Becky's true love, is about to move his business to New York. With creditors snapping at her heels it seems the perfect place for our heroine as well. After all foreign money doesn't count so you can spend as much as you like right? Out of sight ..Out of mind. If heaven has a name, for Becky it would be Manhattan. The world's biggest shopping paradise is home to the ultimate sales events and in Becky's mind that is heaven! She is courted by producers from every medium to develop her career in America and feels life has come full circle for her. Does Becky keep her spending in control? Does she find the ultimate career? You must read the book to find out. I guarantee you will laugh out loud and truly enjoy another roller coaster ride that is Becky Bloomwood's life. I look forward to the next book in this series due out next year.
Rating: Summary: Sophie Kinsella- a great author! Review: Sophie Kinsella's new book, Shopaholic Takes Manhattan is a funny and enjoying book. This is a type of book where you can just sit down for hours and read. You re-meet Becky Bloomwood, who is a person who overspends just a tad too much. You go with her through her ups and downs and through the shopping. Sophie Kinsella portrays a young woman who may me in debt, but finds her way to love life and go through it as well as she can. I recommend this book to everyone: especially to people who love English authors!
Rating: Summary: Cute, but not as good as the first Review: I guess I had a different take on this follow up to Kinsella's first novel, Shopaholic, then most of the reviewers here who seem to prefer it to the original. I LOVED the original, and couldn't wait for this sequel to come out. And "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan" was definitely a cute, fun book to read . . . I just didn't think it lived up to the first book in the series. In the first book, Becky was clueless but loveable as she got herself into deeper and deeper hot water with her shopping foibles . . . in this book I kept getting annoyed at her for being so foolish.
Rating: Summary: Better than the first! Review: This book was great! I thought that it was better than the first one, Confessions of a Shopaholic. I would say that it is a definite must read for those who liked Confessions of a Shopaholic.
Rating: Summary: I Love This Book! Review: Sophie Kinsella is a genius. Anybody who could write a book as brilliant and amusing as "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan" is. Last fall, I read her first book about Rebecca Bloomwood, "Confessions of a Shopaholic" and it was great. I was thrilled when I was at the bookstore and saw that she had written a second book. I quickly grabbed it up and began reading it the next day. Instantly, I was hooked- it's even better than the first! You can't help but laugh at the messes Becky gets herself into. I highly recommend this book to anybody. You will not be disappointed! Let's just hope that Miss Kinsella continues writing about this shopaholic...
Rating: Summary: A wild romp! Review: Ms. Kinsella has done it again. Her latest installment has Rebecca just as crazy, wild and fun as her first novel, Confessions of a Shopaholic. If you loved the first one, this one is at least as good if not a little bit more fun. This was a perfect book to curl up with on a lazy day along with a box of Godiva chocolates and a nice glass of wine...
Rating: Summary: Complete Fun! Better than the first shopaholic book. Review: This book should go on the "great, fun, chick-book" list. It's funny, well written, has all the elements of a fun romantic comedy. It is so NOT Oprah's depressed-style of chick book - it's the fun type. I read it in one evening and enjoyed it so much. I laughed out loud at the humourous lines, and really chuckled at some of the circumstances. It's a bit silly (who really has SUCH terrible habits?) at times but the creative scenarios dreamed up by the main character give her the tools to whip herself into shape - and you into hysterics.
Rating: Summary: Won't this girl ever learn!? Review: I loved Confessions of a Shopaholic! I identified with Rebecca Bloomwood's uncontrollable urge to hit the shops and spend, spend, spend! (Although I am glad to say that I am nowhere near as bad as she is.) It was hilarious, ironic and fun to read and I couldn't wait to read Shopaholic Takes Manhattan -- the sequel to Confessions. However, the second effort lacks some of the fun approach the first novel had. It focuses more on her unhealthy shopping addiction. In the sequel, Rebecca tags along with her workaholic husband to New York City -- a.k.a. the shopping capital of the world (and don't I know it)! No sooner does she arrive in Manhattan than she hits Sak's, Barney's, Bloomingdale's, and every sample sale on the island. After all, she was new to the city and dollars don't really count because they don't even look like real money -- that was her hilarious excuse to shop. The narrator comes across as naive and a little too obsessed with shopping on this one to the point that reason, and even sanity, is no longer used by her. But I take it that that was intentional -- I mean, she does have a problem, doesn't she? She's addicted to shopping. I like the fact that she is forced to face the harsh reality of her reckless spending and makes her realize that it has taken over her life. But it also leads to self-discovery. Shopaholic Takes Manhattan isn't as -- how shall I describe it? -- breezy as the original, it delves into a more serious issue of addiction, but that is what was needed to be used in order to make a great conclusion. She still gets into trouble by buying expensive beauty products just to get a free lipstick -- which means that it's just as hilarious as the first one. I highly recommend it!
