Summary: "Sloppy Firsts"
Review: Being a 14 year old girl, I could identify with Jessica Darling in this book. I feel the same frustration and worry she does, but this book just didn't do it for me. The author simply tried too hard to write like a teen would, in my opinion. The recent pop culture references fell flat, especially considering that most of them relate to 'flash-in-the-pan' fads.

The cliques came off as over-exaggerated. Of course there are cliques and groups at my high school, but none are so blatantly obvious and territorial as these.

The characters were often extremely annoying to me, as well, especially Jessica. She came off as too self-righteous, passing off almost everything and everyone as a waste of her time.

All in all, I thought this book was okay. It can be hard to find a good book for my age group, so this one will do. I will probably read the sequel coming out in a few days, but this book certainly didn't make a dent in my favorite book list.

Summary: Must read book
Review: This book had me cracking up! It's the story about a girl named Jessica who has to deal with high school, just like I am now! All most all of this book is real life situations that I could totally see myself getting into. If you like funny books, and are a teen girl, you should really really really read this book!

Summary: Irresistably Un-Sloppy
Review: McCafferty's book's title does it no justice. "Sloppy Firsts" is undoubtedly not a sloppy first. If anything it is the essence of experience-even if it is a first. Jessica's character is portrayed perfectly. Maybe it's because I have a thing for angst, honesty, comedy, and romance (hey isn't that all the genres?) but this book was one of the best that I've ever read. Now, I had heard about how good this book was, but I had never picked it up, so I don't suppose this will convince you to pick this up, but really. Please? You won't regret it.

Summary: Go Read Sloppy Firsts!
Review: I love love love this book! Its my favorite book. The way Megan McCafferty writes is so realistic, that I often find myself thinking the same things as Jessica, the main character. I'm not going to write a summary because that is available in other reviews, I'm just going to tell you that if you are a teenage girl you will love this book. If you are a teenage guy trying to understand complex teenage girls, you will love this book. If you are a parent, and want to buy something for your daughter, she will love this book! Its just so witty, and true to life.

If you like this book, I would suggest Gossip Girl and Life in the Fat Lane.

What are you waiting for? Go buy it!

Summary: THE MUST-READ BOOK FOR TEENS
Review: For anyone who's ever been unsure of themself, this is your book! Or for anyone who's ever felt like they are completely alone in the world and hate their "friends" this is a very encouraging journal for your high school years. Her book is very thought out and witty, making sarcasm the root of all jokes. Megan McCafferty has outdone herself in a clever, fun book that you will not want to put down until you're finished. And when you are FINISHED, order "Second Helpings," the sequel to "Sloppy Firsts." BOTH ARE GREAT! She is a very intelligent woman who is an inspiration to us all!

Summary: Simply Darlin'
Review: The teenage years are known for their ups and downs, and especially for the emotional trouble that occurs at this age. Jessica Darling is dealing with a fairly common problem, in that her best friend, Hope, moves away. With humor and wit, and a bit of pesimism (I think), McCafferty writes about Jessica's struggle to adjust and the outrageous and uncommon events that occur during her junior year of high school.

This book is a definaite toy on the emotions. At times you want to cry, scream, or laugh, but mostly, you just want the second book so you aren't driven insane by the cliffhanger ending!!!

Summary: Perfectly captures the American high school today
Review: Sloppy Firsts, a funny, touching, and realistic novel, portrays today's american high school scene better than any novel out there. It gets everything about suburban high school right-the cheerleaders, the football players, the "smart ones", the AP classes, the lack of racial diversity, the complex rungs of the high school social ladder...and all of it described through the critical eyes of Jessica Darling. The novel, which is written in a journal format, takes its readers through Jessica's sophomore and junior years in a completely endearing way. Friendless and alone after best friend Hope moves to tennesee, jessica is left to survive High school with the "clueless crew"-phony friends who, in Jessica's eyes are shallow, self-absorbed, and clueless. But survive she does, excelling at school and running, but failing at dating, having meaningful friendships, and staying away from the mysterious Marcus Flutie, ...who appears to have a real connection with the cynical and sarcastic Jessica. However, among the many things Jessica learns throughout the novel, first appearances can be very deceiving. Overall, "Sloppy Firsts" is a funny page-turner that will take anyone already out of high school right back, and readers still in highschool will be able to relate completely.

Summary: GREAT diary book!
Review: This book was....indescribable. The author did an AMAZING job bringing in the right pop culture and making this book an enjoyable read for all.
Jessica Darling, a brainiac who is a phemonenal runner, is depressed. Her best friend, Hope Weaver, has just moved away from their hometown of Pineville, New Jersey. Now Jessica is stuck with the "Clueless Crew", her group of friends that are anything but friends, Scotty Glazer, the jock that loves her, her sister Bethany's wedding to "G money", AND the mysterious Marcus Flutie. Find out what happens to Jess Darling in her junior year at high school.
I absolutely LOVED this book! I read it in a day, Jess Darling is just so believable. The author's writing style was so honest, it just made you want to keep reading to see what other brillant pop-culture references came up next. (my favorite: Hey Alice, welcome to Wonderbreadland.) I think there is a Jess Darling in all of us. :)

Summary: The *kayters* review
Review: Jessica Darling is beginning the second half of her high school sophomore year without her best friend, Hope. Hope's parents packed her up and moved her off to Tennessee from New Jersey, hoping to save her from the fate of drugs and suicide which befell her brother Heath. So Jessica has to deal with the rest of her clique, whom she and Hope referred to as the "Clueless Crew" by herself. The Clueless Crew is pretty much that - only interested in boys and clothes and already pretty well-versed in sex & drinking. Jessica isn't particularly fond of this lifestyle, but she still hangs around with these folks, basically because she doesn't have any other friends.

Jessica also tangles with her parents - her father who is only interested in her track meets and in following her on her runs and her mother, who gets along better with her sister Bethany, especially now that they are planning her wedding.

Jessica is a bit more self-involved than say... Mia Thermopolis, but that's okay. She grows up and learns more about the value of friendship in this novel and I, for one, enjoyed watching it unfold.

Summary: great!
Review: every girl who's ever kept a journal, harbored unrequited crushes on guys, dealt with frenemies, and has liked a "bad" boy will definately love Sloppy Firsts. It's a hilarous story about a girl named Jessica who's coping with her best friend's move and her chaotic life in high school. Make sure to reccomend this to someone else! It's awesome!
