Rating: Summary: One Man, Two Lives Review: One Man is living two lives.....that's what caught my attention. I hadn't thought about that type of thing much until someone turned me on to this story and I read the description here at Amazon.com. It was totally awesome. This is a sensational debut story about how Reginald Brooks has grown weary of living in deception and wants to get out of it. That decision doesn't make for happiness among his girlfriend and daughter, or his wife and their two daughters. Throw in a "best friend" with an ax to grind and you have a story that keeps your eyes roving back and forth until the last page is turned......and then there's the subplot of Justine, Roger and that oh so sexy Brent Stone! This was a VERY good read. Part 3 had me stunned like nothing has in a long while....what an ending. I agree that you have to regain your composure after that shocker. It's pretty impressionable and certainly makes you think about that serious situation once you're done. I read that the author is working on her second novel and I'm wanting to read it like yesterday!!
Rating: Summary: When the Wrong Choices Lead to Tragedy... Review: This is a powerful story with an ending so tragic I was so empathetic. Two unsuspecting families taken by surprise by betrayal, secrets, and infidelity. Reginald Brooks is a big shot with the weight of the world on his shoulders and is seeking to unload without anyone being affected. Boy was he in for surprise. There is a line that Reginald says in the book that I love where he eludes to the fact that he thought he'd go back home to Miami and they'd turn into the Brady Bunch.....well, Carol and the kids would've been just as devastated if Mike had been revealed to have an outside child and mistress! Readers, this is a story that has a strong moral, fueled by a very fascinating premise. The secondary characters provided a nice balance to all the drama going on in the Brooks and Jameson families. Read and imagine this happened to you in some form. It's truly scary. Kimberly Wein in Vermont
Rating: Summary: TRUE MORAL TO THIS STORY..... Review: My book group and I really love a good book. This story is a literal page-turner and we all had a great time reading it. I can tell you, the pages turn themselves! The characters are so well-drawn and you really get caught up in their choices. Some infuriated me, and others I sympathized with and rooted for. My favorite character was definitely Reginald Brooks, the main one. He wasn't at first, but he ended up showing us a great moral in the end of the story. The ending to The Great Pretender is a true lesson that gives a reader a great moral value on top of the exciting, fast-paced story that the author leads up to it with.
Rating: Summary: A Whirl Wind of a Story! Review: Reginald Brooks gets away with living two lives, he has two families. Tracy and his two daughters in Miami and Renee and a young daughter in Orlando. He chooses one and then pays the ultimate price. What a ride this book took me on. Don't miss it!
Rating: Summary: Disappointing and disturbing Review: What a disappointment. The premise seemed interesting but instead the book turned out to be like watching a bad movie on Cinemax. Filled with trashy sex, undesirable people and a disturbing story. I'd say skip it.
Rating: Summary: A real page turner Review: The storyline was so interesting I could not put this book down until I was finished reading.
Rating: Summary: Signs To Look For in a Relationship Review: Reading "The Great Pretender" by Millenia Black was an experience. I was able to enter a lost world of deception, betrayal, lies and deceit. Reginald, a business man, had the privilege to work in two cities. He resides in Miami with his wife and two daughters and has a secret life in Orlando with a mistress with a beautiful six year old little girl. Reginald later on had confessed about his secret life. According to statistics, 50-70% of men cheat on their wives. 2/3 of those wives (approx. 26 million women) have no idea their husbands are having an affair despite the presence of numerous tell-tale signs. As widespread as infidelity is, most of it goes undetected until it's too late. "The Great Pretender" gave me specific details and signs to look for in a relationship. Tracy, the wife, had secrets of her own. The story also reflects the double standard in our society as it relates to men cheating vs. women cheating in relationships. For women, it is more of an unforgiving act. The story was very well put together and it kept me interested. The characters make some sad choices and are true to life. This book is recommended very highly to all readers who enjoy an interesting, well thoughtout story.
Rating: Summary: A Scary Notion Review: From the point of view of a man, this book is truly a scary notion of what can happen when the lying and cheating gets terribly out of hand. Mr. Brooks surely learned a lesson when all was said and done. The book showed in a very good way how the choices of Mr. Brooks caused the ruination of two beautiful families one member at a time in their own individual ways. A truly scary notion indeed.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I bought this book because it got high ratings and the story line seemed to be interesting. However, it was a struggle for me to complete the book. It was an on-going saga of this dysfunctional family with a really sad ending. I have never heard of a so many characters having such problems. This book truly disappointed me. I expected better.
Rating: Summary: Many Relevant Life Topics in THE GREAT PRETENDER Review: Our bookclub read this story and the discussion lasted nearly four hours. There were many, many, many points and topics for discussion in this book that all of us could relate to. The title character is Reginald Brooks and the stunts he pulls really had us up in arms wondering if and when our own husbands or boyfriends had done some of these things. There are issues of infidelity, sexually transmitted disease, pregnancy, true love, liberation, finding yourself and breaking free of habit and feeling trapped...I could go on and on about the various subjects in the plot. I highly recommend everyone grab a copy of this book...it was much better than we actually expected.
